Welcome, allelsefails. It's tough--we've all been there in one way or another. It's especially hard when your mate still goes. But you've come to the right place, like others have said. Reading other experiences helps a lot, because you realize that you're not crazy--you're just wide awake. Hang in there.

Have you checkd out the pic of the latest Gilead graduation? It's in the same WT as the "follow the lamb" article. The sisters are all clustered in front (no doubt by height) but they are all dressed alike--cute little Stepford suits--and have the same expression on their face, all holding their hands the same way. I wonder if a memo was sent around to them the week before explaining exactly how the suit should look and fit--no dresses, no arms showing. In the past I've notced how the Gilead grads all seem similar but this latest pic is the strongest yet. Yikes! (I'd scan it if I could but I can't so I won't)

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 05-03-09 WT Study (LAMB)
by blondie inevidence of god's confidence in the anointed, who "keep following the lamb no matter where he goes.
16 "my sheep listen to my voice," said jesus, "and i know them, and they follow me.
what shows that jesus christ completely trusts the slave class?

This was a deeply troubling article, mostly for the reasons already given here--blank assertions without an iota of real, scriptural evidence, the bait and switch of starting with an unobjectionable premise--"follow the lamb"--to one a bit more difficult to swallow--"follow the fds"--to one that violates what Jesus said about not following human leaders--"follow the gb."
Moreover, if you read the context of Matt 25:45, it's obvious Jesus isn't discussing the matter of an earthly hierarchy or organization but the importance of staying awake and alert to the events going on around you. In the verses that follow, the faithful and discreet slave of the parable is categorized as an evil slave. What's the difference? It's the same slave, mind you, not two different entities as the WT asserts.
The difference is that in the first case, the slave was staying alert and doing the work assigned, which was taking care of the domestics. By CONTRAST, in the second instance, the slave was not staying alert to the master's return and had fallen into abusing the ones he was entrusted to care for. This parable works beautifully within the chapter rhetorically speaking, which discusses a series of contrasts, ie, the bad example of the behavior of the folks in Noah's day contrasted with the (implied)correct behavior of "taking notice"; a verse or two later, the example of one man in the field taken, one not, one woman grinding taken, one not.
But the WT places only minimal weight on context, preferring the eisegesis of their contrived theology. Thanks, Blondie. Nice work.

So many ex-Bethelites here...
by jws injust thinking back over some of the many, many posts here.
it seems there are a fair share of ex-bethelites here or ex-branch office workers.. what percentage of jws actually go to bethel or a branch office?
it's gotta be under 1%.

Job: Jehovah's Deal with the Devil
by cameo-d inif the scriptures in the book of enoch has enough validity to be mentioned in jude..... the wager between jehovah and the debbil, concerning the demise of job, could never have happened.. according to enoch...jehovah and satan were not even on speaking terms during that time.. this quote from enoch 13 takes place shortly after "the fall".. .
1 and enoch went and said: oazazel, thou shalt have no peace: a severe sentence has gone forth.
2 against thee to put thee in bonds: and thou shalt not have toleration nor request granted to thee, because of the unrighteousness which thou hast taught, and because of all the works of godlessness.

I, too, am intrigued with the Book of Job. I've always had the sense that there's something about it that doesn't fit with the standard Christian orthodoxy--or I should say, with the standard JW interpretation about it being all about upholding God's sovreignty or justice.
I recently read Jack Miles' "God, A Biography" in which he makes some rather interesting points about this complex story. His take is that Job's closing words at Job 42:6 is, in fact, not a repentance or recantation and he bases that, in part, on the addition of the word "myself" in the passage "therefore I despise myself, / and repent in dust and ashes." (RSV) The Septuagint translators added "myself" because the Hebrew verb 'em'as is transitive and therefore needs an object; a reflexive object like "myself" fits the concept of repentance.
However this insertion, according to Miles, separates the verb 'em'as from the next verb in the text "nihamtiy" which immediately follows and means "repent." He contends that the two verbs ('em'as and nihamtiy) fit together to form one thought and have the same object, which is "dust and ashes." Taken this way, Job is no longer repenting but is making a rather dismayed and highly ironic comment about God himself. Instead of repenting in dust and ashes, Job feels sorry FOR dust and ashes or, in other words, corruptible human clay. (eg. Abraham says in Gen. 18:27, "I am but dust and ashes (RSV)).
This is how Job 42:5,6 would read in this alternative view: "Word of you had reached my ears, / and now that my eyes have seen you, / I shudder with sorrow / for mortal clay."

Bethel reductions in Europe
by Lost-In-Translation inperhaps this has been discussed before, but at the extjforo.com (the spanish ex-witness website) there has been a lot of discussion of the governing body's decision to either close or severely reduce bethel homes in europe - in particular spain.
there was even a letter sent to all congregations in spain explaining the situation.
bethalites are being asked to leave - they are not even getting other assignments.

"Satan, oscillate my metallic sonatas"
by compound complex inthe most familiar palindromes, in english at least, are character-by-character: the written characters read the same backwards as forwards.
palindromic words exist, for example civic, level, rotator, rotor, kayak, and racecar.. palindromes often consist of a phrase or sentence ("was it a rat i saw?
", "step on no pets", "sit on a potato pan, otis", "lisa bonet ate no basil", "satan, oscillate my metallic sonatas", "i roamed under it as a tired nude maori").
