Follower: Welcome! Good to have you here. I'm inclined to echo the others who have said to give your family members the benefit of the doubt. However, after reading your reaction to your mom's comment where so many feeings of hurt, pain, betrayal, etc., as you described, came so quickly to the surface after 15 years, it sounds like you are still very much wounded over your exit circumstances. Have you considered seeing a reputable therapist in order to sort out your feelings and start healing?

Newbie here, need some input
by FollowerOfSet ini wanted to introduce myself, and need some advice.. i dissassociated myself back in 1995. haven't had much of anything to do with my family since then.
they are all witnesses, and very dedicated to their beliefs.
so after 15 years without a simple howdy from them, now they are coming around again and being very nice, but it reminds me of when people would have parts in the ministry school...it seems rehearsed and fake.

JW Science Quote (1-29)
by TD inif you've been exposed to american entertainment at all during the last forty years, it would be difficult to be unfamiliar with the sci-fi character, "mr.
spock.
" spock was a character in the series, star trek, the son of a "vulcan" father and a human mother.

Thank you for that fascinating, well-elucidated review. How privileged we are to be feeding at the table of accurate knowledge!
(NB: Sarcasm directed at WT, not TD's articulate analysis. In case anyone didn't get it)

Nuclear Physicist Becomes Jehovah's Witness Believes Bible & Science Don't Conflict
by frankiespeakin ini was browsing the wt web sight and i came across this article about a nuclear physicist who became a jw and got baptised the same year he graduated i can't believe it.. he was won over by the logic in the evolution book:.
she gave me a book entitled did man get here by evolution or by creation?
* also, she told my wife that during the bible study scheduled for the following week, they would consider a bible prophecy showing that 1914 was a significant year.

Yet if he's a nuclear physicist, surely he's aware of the uses of radiometric dating and the complete wrench it throws on the WT's chronology of life on earth. Me suspects the good doctor is partitioning his thinking, looking at what he wants and ignoring the rest. And his comment about the "scientific references" in that old canard, the Creation book makes me want to regurgitate a bit...
And it seems like his narrative is very carefully worded.

Your worst field service experience.
by littlebird inmy worst field service experience was this.. i didn't have a car at the time and so a pioneer sister was picking me up of service every couple of days.
she was my partner and i got a door where the woman was clearly not interested.
as i am stepping away the pioneer sister starts in with all the objection stoppers.

In my teens, I was in a car group doing rurals. Well, zealous little bitch that I was, I decided that the couple who were making the call at the current house were taking too long and I'd walk on to the next one. Bad idea in rurals. I got part way up a very, very long driveway when I hear LOUD, DEEP barking. From around the house comes 2 german shepherds barking and charging. I just froze and closed my eyes, certain of death. I have honestly never been so scared in all my life. As it happened, they ran right up to me and started licking my hands. But I was WAY too shaken to take the call and turned and walked back to the car, which was still at the previous house.

would you date this guy???
by highdose inabout 2 weeks ago i met a guy online, we chatted on the phone one evening and had a good conversation and aranged to go on a date this friday coming.. since then i have heard almost nothing at all from him!
i think about 2 texts and thats it!
in one of the texts he hints that he would like to see a picture of me "wearing alot less".

Highdose (okay, you need a new name, right?): Please, please be careful. Meet him in public, drive your own car, keep it friendly and don't go home with him or invite him over. Take your time, not b/c of any religious rules but b/c of your own emotional/physical circumstances and the slightly jerky way this guy has been acting. If he's a good guy, you'll learn if/when you meet him and Fri and you can take it from there. All the best and let us know what happens.

I hope Leolaia will weigh in on this subject (not to minimize the value of bluesapphire, my struggle and little sister's posts). Leo? Where are you?

New to this site....
by TanCatLuvr ini am so thrilled to find this forum.
it is such a relief to know that all of us 'apostates' are normal people who had the nerve to question what has been crammed down our throats.. i am 4th generation ex-jw with family members at bethel, doing missionary work, and pioneering.
even though i have been out for almost 20+ years, i still had guilt admitting to myself that this was a cult-like organization until just recently.

TanCat: You are most welcome here. We will all carry scars for a long time, maybe permanently. But that doesn't mean healing can't happen. This is a good place to heal. There's tremendous comfort in finding out you're not alone.

Borg cubes inbound!
by sd-7 inwell, as my suspicious side suspected, my wife has rather suddenly flipped the script on me.
she got confused after i explained reality to her, and by coincidence the elders are now going to do a shepherding call on us.
after having read my e-mail (see 'drawing disciples after myself?

SD-7, it's the moment many of us try to put off indefinitely. I wish you courage and a clear mind. It sounds like you've prepared though--the most important thing is how you've done the research for yourself and not just to win a fight. You now know what's real and what's not. Please, please let us know what happens.
Mickey Mouse--you are hilarious!!! I love it!!

The Watchtower Society: aka "The Dream Killers"
by JimmyPage indo you have talent as a musician?
how much better would it be if you focused on pioneering!.
are you artistic?
-

And the worse thing is how guilty you feel if you do have the audacity to go to college or to a dance. This "dream killing" is the one area where I struggle not to feel bitter. It is akin to a living murder, taking away a teen's dream, stomping it down and grinding it under the organizational heel. Most kids only want to please their parents.
I think back to myself, reading and writing stories every moment I had the whole time I was growing up, getting straight A's, obviously academically inclined. And I was encouraged to go to secretarial school for 6 mos. (not that there's anything wrong with being a secretary). I still remember the sick feeling in my stomach, reading the brochure. Yes, I went and I aced it, of course. I'm not trying to brag--God knows I'm no Leolaia--but it just wasn't for me.
Okay, okay. I'm in graduate school now and in my 40's. It's okay. It's all okay.
