Mother's day according to Joseph Rutherford
by opusdei1972 inthis is what the second president of the watchtower society, the channel of god appointed in 1919, wrote about the mother's day:.
satan would turn the people away from this beautiful symbol, and therefore from god, and cause them to disregard the word of the lord.
this he does in a very subtle way by organizing what in england and in america, the chief countries of christendom, is called "mother's day".

Rutherford was a cement-headed literalist and a blithering misogynistic idiot. And that's on his good days. -

Would you call JW HQ???
by DATA-DOG ini have a friend who is still in.

First, I'm a little confused because you mention your friend (singular) but then refer to "they" (plural). I'm assuming your post is about one friend. At any rate, I highly doubt your friend will get much past the first level of security. He will likely get past the receptionist, and then maybe one more level, but to actually speak to a GB member? No way. GB members are not available to speak to ordinary rank-and-file and the fact that your friend is anointed will mean nothing.
Of course, if I'm wrong, I will be very interested in hearing the convo!

It's time to say goodbye to JWD - I sold it !
by Simon ina week or so ago i posted that the forum was 15 years old (15 years of jehovahs-witness.com) and hinted that there may be some news to announce about the site:.

Okay, you totally got me. My heart stopped when I saw your line about selling it to the WT. It makes sense--I can imagine they would be willing to pay $$ to shut down any sites like this. And then your line about putting your family's future first...OMG.
GOOD ONE!!!

The Tetragram (YHWH)
by RevFranklin inthis is the watchtower's equivalent to the theory of evolution - there is no evidence but it must be so.
in fact all the evidence points to the contrary.
there is not one new testament manuscript known today in which the tetragram appears and there is no evidence of a conspiracy to get rid of the tetragram.

Interesting post, but I need to clarify something:
This is the Watchtower's equivalent to the theory of evolution - there is no evidence but it must be so
Please don't compare these two things. The evidence for evolution is abundant, diverse and convergent. The evidence for the WT's NT usage of the divine name is etymological wishful thinking.

The Secret is out....but nobody cares
by MrTheocratic ini've been looking on this site for some time but never posted.
i'll give a little about myself, but not too much.
i'm a ex-bethelite ( brooklyn )and currently serving as an elder (10 years) (thinking about stepping down) on the service committee.

Welcome, Mr. T. Good posts. I agree with your observations. My husband is an elder, with a big family that's all in and strong(ish) and while I know he has doubts, he's all about the idea of loyalty and not rocking the boat. He's seen the emotional turmoil I went through, learning TTAT and that scares him too. It's easier to simply maintain the status quo and not look or think about it too much.
I have to agree about your statement that the ones who really invested in the "insurance policy" are the ones who are hurt the most and who leave. That was me! I was a zealous pioneer, Bethel commuter, learned a foreign language, the whole schmear. So when the blinders fell off, it was pretty devastating. Compare that to my sister, who basically lived a "normal" life with meetings and occasional service. Now that her husband has made them fairly well-off, and she no longer has to work, she is free to pioneer in her middle age. A great example of making money in your 20s through 40's and doing the whole spiritual thing later, once you have the big house and toys. Of course, he is an elder and they are incredibly socially prominent and admired through their circuit. Funny how that is.

BART EHRMAN answers my question
by TerryWalstrom inas a member on bart ehrman's blog, i am able to ask him direct questions.is jehovah in the bible?.
question:.
how firmly grounded in reality is the claim of jehovahs witnesses that the divine name (jehovah) belongs in the new testament?.

Thank you so much for posting this, Terry. I'm a big fan of Ehrman, having read two of his books. His "awakening" is interesting because he started out as a conservative apologist but delving into the scholarly side of the Bible led him to realize that it is definitely not infallible.
With respect to Jesus using the divine name, I reasoned with my elder husband this way: If Jesus or his apostles had uttered the Tetra., don't you think it would have caused a tremendous accusation by the Pharisees who were looking for any pretense whatsoever with which to accuse them? And wouldn't it have been a wonderful witness for Jesus to stand up to them and defend his use of the Name and decry the Jewish superstition banning it? And wouldn't it be recorded in the Bible as a stirring testimony of courage? Wouldn't that have been totally appropriate for Jesus? And wouldn't he have been put to death for it, since the Pharisees wouldn't have to cook up a false accusation?
His response: Silence.

If you've never heard of CofC, you're in for a major treat. It's a beautifully written memoir by a former GB member who himself woke up to the hypocrisy of the organization. No bitterness, slander, lies or name-calling, unlike the WT who doesn't mind using slanderous labels for anyone who disagrees. It's a must-read for anyone making the journey out. -

I don't know how old you are, Doctor, but from what I've seen, pretty JW girls outnumber marriageable guys 5 to 1. Now, emotional issues...well, that's another story! -

The floodgates are about to open in the UK.. Sunday Times article
by defender of truth injehovah church faces flood of sex abuse cases.
"a woman who was abused from the age of four by a senior officer of the jehovahs witnesses has lodged a 500,000 claim for compensation in a test case that could open the door to hundreds more suits involving members of the religious organisation in the uk.".

Thanks for posting this. It's a good article, but I wish the writer could have been accurate with the name in the headline. I can remember my father commenting about negative articles that "if they can't even get our name right, what else have they got wrong?" How many witnesses will dismiss this--or maybe not even read past the headline-- simply because the name in the title offers them a seemingly valid excuse?.
