  Climate Change - True Believer or Skeptic?

  climate change ... who doesn't believe it?

  crazy fools and science deniers ... right?.

  it seems like it's become the new religion, the new orthodoxy, that must be accepted and believed as gospel and preached to all.. is it ok to be skeptical?.

  I think mankind is capable of some pretty bad stuff to the environment ,and yet when people have stood up to it things have changed for the better.

  I grew up in Adelaide Australia and over 50 years ago I can remember the city zoo dumping their polluted water into the river Torrens ,the Chemical works at Port Adelaide with pipes coming out of it into the back reaches mangroves ,you could'nt fish there. Now there is a housing estate near there.

  Large clay pits around Beverley 70 to 80 feet deep were filled with rubbish ,one even had a dirt levee bank 40 feet down where they just dumped thousands of litres of sump oil and buried it . I could go on but things got fixed but with global warning it's not so obvious to be convinced it's that bad yet.

  I do think crooked politicians use this to rob the public and people get carbon credits for planting trees ,but thats for the wealthy in a lot of cases and they grow them on perfectly good cropping land not on poor farming land where they should , it's only about the money.

  It's hard not to be cynical.

  I am with Smiddy lived in SE Queensland for eight years and experienced it too ,once it went thru Morayfield and wiped out 3 car yards and many roofs with cricket ball size hail ,we lived just to the side of that run and got golf ball sized ones to a depth of about a foot in my backyard. The noise was deafening and passed quickly and went sunny.

  C'mon Simon why does it always come down to two teams ,believer or skeptic ? I want to sit on the fence coz I know that picking a team won't make one bit of fucking difference to the world .

  As can be seen from the comments so far the rich don't give a fuck ,never have unless there is a dollar in it, and everyone else can fuck themselves as far as they are concerned.

  What we really need is a world encompassing government that's promoted by a bunch of hypocritical American salesmen who have a channel from god ,and even have a token black skinned person amongst them ,who appear to sit on the fence and tell the people of the world that reports are coming in from the media that disastrous man created pollutions are going to kill the planet and god is "going to ruin those ruining the Earth"

  Oh shit ,that's right I was once a member of the Watchtower Society that sits on the fence! watching and throwing shit at anything that moves .So if mankind does bad ,throw shit at it ,but if mankind does something good and beneficial still throw shit at it because that's Satan tricking the world!

  I think it's nice sitting here on the wall without the WTS and not making a personal mess in my tiny bit of the planet ,which I think is all our responsibilty to do ,I've got 8 lovely grand kids who I hope will have a good future.

  Is this JW Investment for the future?

  i first had contact with jw's in the early 70's so i have seen many changes in that time like many people here.. in recent years we have seen the talk of many new kingdom and assembly halls to be built with urgency ,then suddenly it was put on hold ,then the halls were legally taken over by the society and congregations now renting ,if you will, back the halls they paid for and built with their own hands .i am talking generally as it would be different in some parts of the world.. people have been consolidated into neighboring halls as a lot of halls have been sold bringing in massive amounts of money for the wts.

  over time policy ,scripture interpretation etc have changed ,people move about new ones get born in ,new people become jw,s and all this churning keeps people distracted.. eventually,over time surely the halls will fill up again with there being less of them around .i wonder whether this is part of wts strategy for the future fiscal plan ,that they can once again build the hysteria of the 80,s for quick built kingdom halls again ,and so then completing a cycle for future sell offs again ensuring future money and investment?

  for ones born in or newer ones who were'nt around in the 80's it would all seem so fresh and exciting for the wts to sell it to them!.

  John - That's true the excitement was big in the 80,s ,with 1986 year of peace and the millenium finishing it was hard to see past 2000 etc

  But I can see the WTS as though just treading water for now ,hungrily waiting for some extraordinary natural disaster or war event close to home, to get the writers busy using the same old scare tactics format to motivate to build for their next cycle of money grabbing .

  My personal history as child is of incest and then rape from someone else .This stuff does stick like shit to blanket.

  You can imagine what it was like trying to have girlfriend when I was a teenager. After a year she told me the time had come to have sex and I should read two sex manuals she gave me ,she was switched on for 16. I finally started to learn what a proper relationship was and how it works . This is one way your affected in life.

  I've done the therapy ,hospital treatment etc all my life but I think think fighting the WTS for years over my ex wifes abuse by her elder father is what did me in for a while and helped me find better help.

  I feel I am more real about the world ,have learned to avoid the bullshit people in life more but I am sorry molestors deserve to die ,no time for any new age bs ,there is no god I can see now ,evolution is probably right and so the molestors don't have any moral platform to live on.

  Again thank you for your concern and I hope that Pell gets justice to whatever degree society sees fit.

  Having been a victim myself from a different source I feel disgusted at the world's way is with these things.

  I brought this topic up because of the abuse of power of some people and how appalng it is and always has been.

  There are more victims than what is known in this case and others and they have a life sentence and when you go to court you feel like a victim all over again ,having had to go thru this myself as a witness for my ex-wife ,the judge had to clear the court as someone yelled at me "mother f****r".

  The world has become a better place for victims in sense ,for things are'nt so easily hidden and those in authority are more so being called to justice.

  I did not start this topic to throw mud at the catholic church specifically but to all filth in organisations who break with decency and respect I say would love to see a world where you are put to death.

  As regards the Ballarat area of Victoria and the sex abuses carried out there over time I know little of the history but when I lived in Queensland I knew a family of JW's who came from there ,and one of the family confided to me why they left the Ballarat area and moved to Queensland as they were catholic at one time and became witnesses. They faced horrors in Ballarat and it adversely affected all their lives . I kept in touch for a time till it was obvious they would not talk to me any more because I was telling them the truth about the truth.I was trying to tell them the facts about the WTS and it's problem with molestors So I have been affected by losing dear freinds.

  So we do get a life sentence yet the perpetrators often get away free. Is it any wonder that a young man years ago in new south wales took the life of his perpetrator? I personally felt a sense of justice from that .

  they say there is another more high profile person who also got busted.. does this stuff upset you that some men have gone into a massage parlor for possibly more than a massage?

  I am pretty sure I saw a city overseer leave one of those "relief" centres in the city early one morning .but as a good little Jdumb I thought god would sort it out.

  It was around the same time an elder in my congo confided in me that an older elder in a congo south of us was caught for beastiality .nothing new in Jahs wonderful organisation
