Thanks Vanderhoven for your views even though I think you hedge around direct questions I know you are'nt the one who decides who is saved ,and that part of being saved is a getting that personal relationship with Jesus and faith. But as I tried to point out some one in rural China or any isolated place has a disadvantage in getting to have that faith thru circumstance ,now your faith might need to dismiss this issue by saying Jesus has the power to reach any worthy one, but from my view of history and the world as it stands now it does not allow this selective thinking.

That is a pretty good summation of the WTS view on things but it seems to be so tiresome to think that people need to be tested and re tested to get life and even then if one errs only once they will be destroyed.

@Vanderhoven - sorry for the late reply busy weekend ,I get that you are trying to use scripture to answer but you seem to be dealing mostly with the dead and coming back to be educated to be saved , but I was asking what people in YOUR view would be saved and I gave 2 specific examples.

I guess I'm trying to pin down whether you have a view on who will be saved from the living ,because if one talks to a broad collection of people who claim to be christian they undoubtedly give different answers. As I gave an example of someone I studied with who was not true to the belief he held as an Assembly of God hypocrite.

I have found that christians tend to gloss over or go around what they are supposed to believe when trying to explain why they think they are saved and the gifts of the spirit are supposedly displayed in their groups.

I think for alot of people christianity is confusing because of the different answers one can get and also how difficult answers are given without clarity but a "because it so" is given.

@ vanderhoven - If some one by circumstance is born and lives in a country like China for example and accepts their traditional religious beliefs , or say someone is in Australia and is a JW but thinks they are christian ,will christ save them?

Or do you believe he will only save those ones that you believe belong to only a handful of churches that you find acceptable out of the 40,000 christian orgs now about?

@ Rivergang - It was like that in my area years ago and the "born agains" (as we called them) would ask that question often when approached at their homes and we would reply according to whether we thought we were being saved in the conveluted way the WTS told us. I studied with a lot of born agains and one I remember went on about it, so I challenged him on that in the light of him having sex with a woman who was his neighbor and that he smoked weed, I asked him how the holy spirit can be in him ,how he was saved, and where then does his gift of tongues come from , considering he continued a sinful life. He just smirked and chuckled but he was still saved according to him.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel "

What gospel is this that saves when it is considered that he died about 64 AD and it appears that "the gospels" matthew mark luke and john maybe written after he lived?

we've taken a decision similar to revelation 18:4 to get out of the watchtower and not share in its sins.. how many of you still believe that god will one day terminate the world's many systems by means of an armageddon?.

hi everyone ,the other day my partner and i were out looking for antiques and collectables and had a surprise discovery.. we were at a little antique shop we regularly scour and i found in the book section a copy of "riches" by j. f. rutherford dated 1936. all the years we have searched together this is the first old society book ,apart from a silver covered bible i found, that i have come across outside of a kingdom hall library.. the book is in pretty good condition considering it's age.

i don't collect them so if if any of you need a copy please message me.

Last night out for a drive ,I noticed the kingdom hall lights on and people moving around inside the hall and preparing for a meeting.

Along time since I have seen anyone there, and many years since I have attended that hall that I help build with my own hands. Certainly got me thinking how they are managing their lives now the governing body says they are allowed back in.

So much has changed in the world since I became a JW in the early eightees ,but also so much has changed with the teachings of the governing body in that time ,even the vow made at baptism to follow the org .

The beauty of time is that one can reflect back on how man made the org is ,if the bible is read there appears a huge gulf between how the governing body has been changing almost the whole scene of the JW's in those decades compared to the principles that supposedly set out by the bible writers and even Jesus.

One has to wonder that if technology ,which has been condemned as satanic , had not evolved and the pandemic had come ,what would they have done about the preaching and meeting attendance if the likes of zoom had not existed?

Does'nt it seem that the governing body has just responded to Covid and other things ,like the child abuse cases ,just as humans would without being divinely lead? They had to make decisions based on the rules they had developed over decades from their inception?

The consequeces for the governing body of their mistakes are hidden from their eyes just like the people who follow them are foreign to them, they don't have to face people at all do they? For instance what about when they said organ transplants are not for god's people, and many died as a result, but now it's ok, they don't have to come face to face to the people who have suffered for following them do they?

But now I look into the hall of fools, like I was ,and wonder how many indeed will never return and how the governing body will respond to what they have created in response to Covid. To me this only shows the governing body has always been ,along with all it's leaders, just man made asking for reverence that their Jesus is supposedly due.

What are your thoughts about Mormons?

My hands up ,my mother became a Mormon back in the 50's so I was brought up from the age of about 4 with the missionaries coming around during the day while my father was at work . He despised them coming around and was an atheist. I have many memories some funny and not so funny ,my mother got pretty involved as far as a woman could in a thing called the MIA which included social events and staging plays etc and freely taught me beliefs of the LDS church .

I was baptised at the age of 8 and took on the ministry at age 12 doing the sacrements and giving talks before they booted her out .

Met lots of young elder missionaries who were only men back then ,mostly Americans but sometimes Mauri ones from New Zealand would come over. They would do 2 year missions and then go back to start careers back home. My mother kept in touch over the years with them and in the later 60's told me that only one I think stayed heterosexual though still marrying in the temples.

I stopped going before my 13th birthday because my mother was booted out ,many years later I was told for having a relationship with a teenager from church which probably explains my father moving out when I was 12.

Years before a bad memory was that my father was out of work for a long time because of a strike at the factory. The government did not help with money because he was on strike but my mother still had to pay her tithe to the LDS church. She would give them 10% of her house keeping which my father really resented. I remember when the strike finished the elders came up to her at the meeting one time with a book recording everyones tithes asking for the accrued tithe she had not paid while my was on strike! Even as a kid I thought this so wrong.

At the time my mother always did not agree with the way African and American Africans were treated as lower because they supposedly had the mark of Cain by being black, they could not get the priesthood or marry whites in the temple etc. When I questioned this she said the prophets say this is the way, but years later when the"prophets" changed their minds I brought this up to missionaries that would come to the door .

Even as a kid I wanted truth and read their literature including the Pearl of Great Price etc and noted they used the King James bible but the Book of Mormon quoted it in the same archaic english as the KJ ,but the KJ was written long after the Book of Mormon was supposedly written on gold plates and translated by Joseph Smith and his wife and given them by the angel Morini - yep just another crap American religion.
