Thanks DOC heard that one too ,the trouble is did god then give these bumblers the power to cut off certain ones ? Does'nt seem reasonable that god would allow this and yet forgive them for getting doctrine wrong .

Oh dear ,did I touch your belief system?
by wozza injust been thinking about things that happened when i was in the jws that made me realise that i was waking up .. bit of history first ,my mother brought me up as a mormon from the age of about 4 till about 12 ,saw alot of things that even puzzled me as a kid and knew the lds church could not be right (like pressuring my mother to pay the 10 percent tithe that she had accrued while dad was out of work for three months with no income}.. one bug that i had then was that they treated "negro" people differently, coul'dnt marry whites at the temple, hold the ministry etc the prophets back then taught this and changed some things later.. years later when i became a witness i sometimes would talk about this with other jws and point out that the prophets had changed their teachings and asked the question "so who got the teaching wrong , the prophets or god?
" .
it was amazing to see their faces ,always seemed to be the same ,it was as though they realised that this could be the same situation in the the "truth" and did'nt want to think about it ,and really with all the changes in recent years ,this question should be asked bt jws today to test their belief system which is based on a group of men which changes all the time over the years and so does their teachings.. wish the internet and information had been around when i was becoming a jw i probably would have put it to good use and never become a jw ,but for those today ,use it well and your critical thinking and the road away from mens teaching will be swift.

Just been thinking about things that happened when I was in the JWs that made me realise that I was waking up .

Car Park witnessing ? yep used to do that and "business Territory witnessing " too that is , calling into stores and approaching the workers at the counter to offer literature even if customers were there. Can't believe I once that delusional :(

This is just a lazy adaptation of carpark witnessing ,but instead of knocking on windows they keep close to the Ipad ,phone, Thermos ,biscuits etc and a quick getaway when they get challenged about their beliefs .

Is shunning unscriptual?
by MrTheocratic ininternational version 1 cor 5:11. but now i am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler.
do not even eat with such people.. if shunning is wrong.
.how does one explain this scripture?.
-
wozza
How can JW's shun based on this "must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister"- iff I am an ex JW how can I be shunned using this scripture......? Notice it says anyone who claims to be a brother or sister ,NOT an exJW who does'nt want to be recognised as a JW .Its talking about ones who are mis-behaving within their ranks is'nt it?

Well many years ago I remember being told from the platform that one way to expand the ministry is to loiter at cemetaries for grieving ones and approach them with a tract . They even had demonstrations on how this can be done tactfully at the theocratic ministry school ,and another way to contact grieving ones was suggested by reading the obituaries ,noting the names and using electoral rolls or phone books to find addresses to contact relatives by mail in those days.
Experiences of success using these methods were given as experiences at conventions here in Adelaide South Australia. I used to wonder how I would handle this kind of preaching iff asked by the elders to participate, so this kind of thing has been around for a long time and could be the thing that happened in this case cited.

How does someone overlook that and carry on?
Maybe she's attracted to you and subtly let you see her browsing sites ,she maybe older but she's not dead.
Let it go perhaps

I thought it was time to talk.....
by wozza ini'd like to relate an experience i had yesterday with a couple of jw's "working" with a cart yesterday.. been coming to this site for many years and these days i don't feel i've got much to contribute ,but i was out yesterday doing some voluntary work for a friend who has gone on an overseas trip .travelling around my local seaside area doing the job at hand ,i came across a couple of jw's sitting in a shelter overlooking the beach and had their trolley propped against a large public rubbish bin ,it was actually hard to see ithe trolley from most angles - whatever happened to lifting the basket to show the light stuff ...oh well .the large carpark was pretty empty except for us ,we've had pretty wet weather here lately ,bad storms and here they were set up for a days witnessing rugged up with wind and spitting rain ,i sort of thought " well that's dedication " ....that was my first thought then i pulled myself together and then thought "if i wanted to get some time in and not have to work at it too hard this maybe the place to go if i was a jw still".. well i finished my pickup and looked over at the two and realised i'd read other's experiences about approaching the cart people and wondered if talking to them would be of any benefit as i had witnessed this area for many years and my stance against the wts for hiding molestation of children is well known ,i thought, and they avoid me like the plague.. they were'nt familiar to me so i went up to them and introduced myself and quickly let them know who i was and what i am doing now as regards jw's.
they were a married couple middle aged been in for a long time and could relate to changes in the org very well to pre 1975 when i had first contact.
they pretty much suggested i was blinded to the truth ,when challenged on the royal commission into sex abuse they pointed to a case where they believed a victim they supposedly knew of in the jws was a liar ,so that's their case for the org -unbelievable.

Thank you for your encouraging thoughts , I'm watching out for the carts now ,seems they can be more reasonable to talk to this way rather than at the door at home - they have to behave in public.
