Tim, your vids as well as CSTheApostate's helped me a lot when I was exiting... I already had the inkling that it wasn't the truth, but I needed the solidifying information that both of you guys put out. That, combined with Hassan's book, really made me see that leaving was the right course. When I went to last year's convention and heard the elastic generation talk for myself, that's when I walked away for good...but it was the forewarnings about that talk that made me REALLY sit up and listen.

One of my FB friends posted this... I'm the type of woman who would KILL my bf if he ever did something like this! I would tell him no because he should know me well enough by then to know I wouldn't be happy to be embarrassed in public like that.

According to the WT the word GB is in the Bible!
by TotallyADD inbefore i left for good i was the po and went to km school for po's in 2009 at patterson.
on the very first day class the instructor told us the word gb is biblicial.
he told us to turn to (heb 13:17) nwt reference bible which said "be obedient to those who are taking the lead among you* and be submissive" using the asterisk next to you he referred to the footnote at the bottom of the page.

OMG grasping at straws! "Governors of you" does not in any way equate with the Governing Body the way the WTBTS means it. Governing Body is a LEGAL TERM, not a spiritual one. Other religions besides JW's have a Governing Body.

Revealing Questions
by leavingwt inthinking of becoming one of jehovah's witnesses?
on page 109 of steve hassan's first book, 'combatting cult mind control', he advises that people ask the representative of the group the following series of questions:.
"how do you feel about former members of your group?
-
Morbidzbaby
I loved Combatting Cult Mind Control. It helped immensely when I was see-sawing back and forth between "Is this the Truth/ is it a cult?"
Asking that one question is very telling... I know on one of the other boards I visit, I've seen countless JW's trying to count their time by preaching and "innocently" bringing up topics for a bible discussion. When I bring up DFing, they're shocked that I know what it is, and their Aposta-senses start tingling...but the funny thing is, they keep talking to me lol. Everyone asks what DFing is, and if the JW doesn't explain, I do. And then in an effort to refute it and state WHY, they just dig themselves deeper because everyone else who is not familiar with JW's ends up perceiving the person as a stark raving lunatic when they start saying "OMG you're an APOSTATE! I can't talk to you!!" and then cite scriptures to back that up. Those who are learned in scripture tend to see how misapplied their "scriptural basis" is. And everyone else just says "Man, that's just not NORMAL!" lol.

*Sigh* There are many types of vegetarians, and yes, they are ALL considered vegetarians.
Vegans
Vegans eat only foods of plant origin, no foods of animal origin; that means, no eggs, dairy products, or honey. Soyfoods, legumes, nuts and seitan form the protein building blocks, and are rounded out by grains, fruits, and vegetables.
Lacto-Vegetarians
Ovo-Vegetarians
Lacto-Ovo VegetariansLacto-ovo vegetarians eat as above with the addition of dairy products (lacto) and/or eggs (ovo). This, in common parlance, is the style of eating most often meant in America when people refer to "vegetarian." Lacto-ovo food choices, in other words, do contain some foods of animal origin, but no foods composed of the animal's actual flesh, or products thereof (for instance, if rice was cooked in chicken stock, it would not be acceptable to your typical lacto-ovo vegetarian). Pesce-Vegetarians (sometimes called Pescetarians)
In addition to the foods above, pesce-vegetarians eat fish. (Most vegans and lacto-ovo vegetarians do not, by the way, consider those who eat fish "real" vegetarians --- you see why definitions can create divisions between people?) "Vegetarian Sympathizers"
Folks who do eat meat, fish, and chicken --- but perhaps much less than they once did, and perhaps more carefully (they may choose organically raised meats). They lean somewhat towards a low- or no-meat way in their thinking. Frequently Sympathizers and Pesces are on the continuum towards a lacto-ovo or vegan way of eating. Passionate
VegetarianAs given on this site and in the book PASSIONATE VEGETARIAN , PV recipesare lacto-ovo, with plenty of vegan options, but always, always sensually pleasing regardless of how you define your way of eating. The recipes are frequently seasonal, not afraid of big flavors, and borrow notes from regional cuisines from all over the world. But PV attitudeis just as important. It is inclusive, welcoming, non-proselytizing, and absolutely respectful of anyone's food choices. PV's know that just as you don't have to "be" Italian to love Italian food, you don't have to "be" a vegetarian to love vegetarian food. PV's set a generous, delicious table --- and everyone is welcome. If a man tells me he is gay, but only dates women, it's not my place to say whether he is gay or not. Maybe he's still in the closet about it and trusts me enough to be honest...who the hell knows?
Okay so it was a personal question... My ex-husband was verbally and mentally abusive, and yes there was a period of time when despite that, I still thought he loved me. He could be very loving at times. I know now, for a fact by his own admission, that he did not. But I still wanted to believe it. Satisfied?
I do think, though, that the examples I originally gave sufficiently answered yours. One doesn't have to answer from personal experience all the time in order for their answers to be considered credible.

Honestly, we're all having a good guffaw at this, but do you really think the dubs are going to notice? Last year, we had the Noo Light involving the overlapping generation, and no one really batted an eye! And that was HUGE! Monumental! Yet...if you were to ask any of them today what the Noo Light is regarding the Generation, they'd probably still spout the Old Light or look at you like "What Noo Light??".
I think this will fizzle just like the last one. I take it to mean that the toes mean NOTHING AT ALL in the grand scheme of things and that there is ZERO prophetic meaning in the toes. In other words, they are saying "Because the toes weren't numbered, we can't be sure that it was ten, so therefore we can't say with certainty that it symbolizes 'Earthly Completeness' as it was purported to in the past".
For my parents, this will be something to talk about I think. My mom specifically is known for saying "*gasp* Well ya know, we're already down to the very tips of the toes!!" (how she knows this, I have no idea, but I think she heard it in a talk). Maybe hearing that they mean diddly squat now will do something, but I doubt it.
I think the big issue here is that these people need to hear reasons why they should keep hanging on. They have nothing left, really. They can't live in the real world and associate and LIVE They're waiting on the next world to start living, but yet in this world they're barely hanging on and they're clinging to this hope that it will get better if they can just keep hanging on. And usually around convention time is when they get tired and feel like saying "To hell with it" and that's when they get new books, new brochures, new DVD's, Noo Light... It's tantamount to a JW Christmas! All of these meager scraps of watered-down and rearranged "truth" that they eagerly devour in hopes that it will keep them going...and it does for awhile...until they start winding down again. But, lo and behold, there's an assembly, and a few months later, another one! Enough to carry them through to the next convention when they will once again get their rations so they can just exist for another year. And on and on it goes.

Everything In The Universe Was Created By Absolutely Nothing.
by Philadelphia Ponos inthis is the purest example of an oxymoron.
repeat this sentence over and over again and you will realize why it's impossible for some people to accept the big bang model.
.

Even JW's and other denominations accept there was a "Big Bang"... It's scientifically proven.

So as long as a person claims to follow the teachings of Jesus without actually following his teachings you'd still consider that person to be a Christian? What's the logic behind this? If a person claims to be a vegetarian but eats meat everyday, would you still consider that person to be a vegetarian? If a man tells you he's gay but never dated a man and only dates woman, would you still consider him to be a gay man? Or how about if you're married and your husband tells you he loves you but always cheats on you and is physically and verbally abusive, would you consider him a loving husband? I really can't follow you're logic.
Apples and oranges. A person's religious beliefs and convictions are not the same as what they choose to eat, who they have sex with, or the person they are married to. I've known vegetarians who do eat some meat (fish, for instance), as well as eggs and dairy products. They are still by definition a vegetarian, even if it is not full-time.
There are HUNDREDS of examples of gay men who dated and married women to keep within the societal norms and to make their family happy. How in the hell are you gonna tell a gay man he's not gay just because he's married to a woman? So that's a very poor analogy as well.
And how many abused women make up excuses for their husbands and still claim that the man loves them, even though he is abusive? That he doesn't mean it...that she provoked it... Come on now. Many women would still believe their husbands loved them despite abusive behavior. In fact, many of them do believe that and stay with him because of it!
Jesus defined what a Christian is in the Bible, loving your neighbor, turing the other cheeck, praying for your enimies, etc. Murderers, child molesters, and rapist are not considered Christians by Jesus' standards, not ours.
Not so. Jesus also said those types of people could be forgiven...however, just because Jesus may have forgiven them does not mean they are not still subject to the laws that govern society on earth and that they don't have to pay for their crimes! Hence, the number of Christians in prison. Maybe they "found Juh-eeeesus" while they were rotting away and had nothing better to do. That doesn't mean they can just walk right out of the prison the day they "see the light". They still have to serve their time.

@ MrFreeze~ I'm gonna be enjoying a nice 3-day weekend with my bf while "my" convention is going on. Can't wait!! What a better way to spend my time than sitting in an auditorium listening to some old codger drone out his outline peppered with "Aren't we HAPPY, brothers and sisters??" and seeing 8,000 people snort and wake up and applaud for some reason they're not sure of. I'll be lounging by the pool with a margarita and the love of my life.
@StandFirm~ This isn't whining...this is pointing out the ridiculousness of the entire fiasco and having a good chuckle at it. JW's at convention time murmur worse than a bunch of freed slaves wandering the desert outside Egypt . "Waaaaah we want the leeks and the garlic!" is likened to "Waaaah my hotel bed is too hard!". For people who should be "happified" that they are getting to experience this "spiritual paradise" for 3 days, they sure are a group of whiny bitches.
