JW teenagers party's
by bigmac ini fondly remember my teenage days as a jw--back in the 1960's.. circuit assemblies-in birmingham, england uk.
after the sunday afternoon god-fest there was usually a party--somewhere--in the evening.. one of the lads--his parents were care-takers (janitors?
) of an office block in the city centre.

We never had anything like that. It was all ridiculous stuff like 50's parties, 80's parties...all decade-themed. Lots of adults present.

A Typical Witnessing Letter from JW Family
by mummatron inthought i'd share this as this is a typical example of the kind of letters i get very occasionally from my jw family.
in this instance it was sent as my daughter had spent some time in hospital.
note, very little information in terms of family news.

Oy vey... I think I'd take it as a personal insult if I ever got a letter from a family member that contained a TRACT!

Video: JWs debate Harold Camping Followers...
by Tuesday inwell sort of... i think that if there really was a debate between jws and harold camping followers this is what it would look like.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om2rfoynk_m.

Love it!! I shared it on Facebook... I don't have any JW's on my friend's list, but others who know my history will get a good chuckle.
Actually, I suspect that one of my Fantasy Kingdoms and Farmville friends might be a JW, but it may just be my radar pinging out of control...my only evidence is that last Tuesday night at around 6pm, she posted "Well, gotta go get ready for the meeting!"... So yeah...um, maybe I'm paranoid but... Those words kind of gave me PTSD lol.

"Cemetery Witnessing" on Memorial Day
by Morbidzbaby ini've been wondering if this is just something that's done in my area, or if people do it all over.. every year on memorial day, a lot of people meet for fs and then when they break into groups, they all discuss which cemeteries they are going to "work".
every major cemetery in the city is divvied up.
the idea is, they take a stack of small tracts (usually the what hope for dead loved ones) and they basically park the car in the cemetery and walk around handing them out to the mourners.

@ NC~ Okay that's just sick. I knew of some who would read the obituary and try to find the address of the family and send them litteratrash or even go and visit!

What a jerk. So basically, all those people are homeless because he doesn't want to deal with eyesores for a little while until everything is rebuilt?
Guaranteed he doesn't get re-elected. He just shot himself in the foot big time.

The Faithful and discreet slave is so good to us when it comes to social networking (boooooo!)
by Joliette inread this on a faithful rubadub's facebook page today:.

Nitwits, the lot of them.
Faithful and discreet slave always knows what they're talking about!
MrFreeze~ Yup they always know what they are talking about... except on doctrine, social issues, health care, parenting...
My thoughts exactly! "Always" is a very strong and inappropriate word to use in conjunction with the FDS. Unless you're saying they're "Always douches".

Thanks blondie! I didn't know if that was something that was WTBTS commissioned or not.
So what are everyone's thoughts on this kind of thing?

I've been wondering if this is just something that's done in my area, or if people do it all over.
When they've made the outside loop and then all the inside aisles, they move on to another cemetery.
In other words, a person could be at their mother's grave crying and planting some bulbs, and a JW will walk right up to them and say "Good morning, I'd like to leave you something to read. It talks about the bible's promise of a resurrection hope for our dead loved ones."
Now, as a JW, I was still uncomfortable with this. These people are remembering that those they loved are gone. They are visiting to memorialize them. And in comes someone to stick religion in their face. At that time, their own religion is probably what strengthens them.
Now, as an ex JW, I think it's downright horrible to bother people like that. Worse than bothering them at their homes. Much worse. It's more personal. I was talking to my bf about it last night and he actually got angry. He asked me not to tell him anymore about it and compared the JW's with Westboro Baptist Church in their methods. Basically, you don't tread on someone else's grief in order to push your own agenda. You just don't. I fully agree with him.
Anyone else have this in their area?
