Disgusting talk about disfellowshipped children...
by Morbidzbaby inhttp://www.archive.org/details/spirituallydeadchildren.
you have to be fucking kidding me... this is mind control at it's best.
encouraging parents to ignore their kids who have left the jw's and blaming the kids themselves for the rift that's caused.

Good! Last thing she needs to is to devote every second of her time to knocking on doors of empty houses... Are you doing the little by little approach? Does she know anything about how you really feel about the org?

Understandable... and no one is going to remove your comments, they're fine. I think, though, that any JW who comes here and looks around a bit and STAYS is beyond being affected by words like Oz's. I know I was.
As for your daughter, there was someone on here awhile back (can't remember the username, forgive me) who took the time to actually make a full binder of information regarding the old Watchtower stuff (like the cross and crown, the pyramids, the original beliefs, etc) as well as the UN scandal, the 1914, 607/587, etc. She had a very close relationship with her daughter and she sat down with her one day and showed her the binder. She opened it up and couldn't stop reading it. It was instrumental in opening her eyes. Maybe if your daughter knew that YOU YOURSELF felt you were wrong and mistaken about this organization and that you regret bringing her up in it and she could see evidence of it, it might help her to look into things...

@ The Quiet One: There is a verse in Exodus where Moses is at the burning bush and he says he doesn't know how to speak (or somesuch)... And YHWH says he will teach him how to speak and what to say. Maybe not every single day and every word that came out of his mouth, but the ones he spoke to Pharaoh and Israel, certainly. However, I highly doubt that in his normal day-to-day, he uttered flip-flopping theories because he wasn't "under inspiration" at the time.
Being "guided by holy spirit" (being so directed in a way or course) and being "inspired" ( a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation) may seem to be different things, but in my mind, they really aren't. In each case, the holy spirit is believed to be directing the person or group to write or speak certain things. Either way, they claim holy spirit IS involved. They also claim that the holy spirit is "god's active force". If this is the case, then god himself is confused because he keeps making his holy spirit change the minds of the Governing Body.

iCeltic, I think Oz was just typing out of anger. He's perfectly sound in mind, just pissed off...and has every right to be. My children and my parents are in some of those Kingdom Halls as well, along with other family members. I didn't get offended at what he said, just realized it was anger talking and that he isn't seriously considering something like that. He doesn't come across like that often, and his story and input has helped others. It was just the heat of the moment from listening to that talk. I myself found it difficult not to wish the speaker to be struck by lightning...
As for being a JW for 10 years and knowing what would happen if you left, it's a lot different when you are born in, have no choice in how you are raised, and then the very parents who supposedly love you turn their backs on you because as an adult you make a choice for yourself. They raise you with this notion that you have free will and can make your own choice, all the while driving in Watchtower doctrine which rails against that free will. And then when you exercise the free will that their "god" supposedly created you with, they treat you as if you are dead...because they can't stone you, so that's the next best thing. So, understandably, listening to this kind of vitriol being espoused from the platform and KNOWING our parents are being nailed with this utter bullshit and being taught to view us like this...it's angering, to say the least.

@ Botswana, that is the goal of this kind of propaganda...to make you feel guilty and make you want to return. REMEMBER this...ALWAYS: It is the hurtful and devious methods of the Watchtower that keep people enslaved to them. It's talks like this that keep people "in line" and in fear of losing their families. It's emotional blackmail. Please check your PM's regarding Crisis of Conscience...

Beautiful post, What Now... Looking at that, I see my own childhood...and what my children are probably going through.
Although my children live far away and are being raised as JW's by their father, I make sure that in my heart I acknowledge the day they were born. I make a Happy Birthday post on Facebook, I buy a birthday card and slip a small amount of cash in it and put it away. Same thing with Christmas. When they are older, I will hand them each their box of cards so they know that they were always in my heart and mind even though I couldn't be with them.
We are trying for a baby and I'm ecstatic that this child will have a NORMAL life. Birthdays, Christmas, extracurriculars, EDUCATION... I just wish I could give my other children the same.
Your son is a lucky boy...he has no idea how lucky.
Happy Birthday Baby What Now!!

Is it fair to label everyone who quotes a scripture as "self-righteous ?
by caliber inself-righteous...one definition....... self-righteousness (also called sanctimoniousness, sententiousness, a holier-than-thou attitude[1]) is a feeling of (usually)smugmoral superiority[2] derived from a sense that one's beliefs, actions, or affiliations are of greater virtue than those of the average person.. the term "self-righteous" is often considered derogatory (see, for example, journalist and essayist james fallows' description of self-righteousness[3] in regards to nobel peace prize winners) particularly because self-righteous individuals are often thought to exhibit hypocrisy due to the belief that humans are imperfect and can therefore never be infallible, an idea similar to that of the freudian defense mechanism of reaction formation.
the connection between self-righteousness and hypocrisy predates freud's views, however, as evidenced by the 1899 book good mrs. hypocrite: a study in self-righteousness, by the pseudonymous author "rita.".
or criticism can be form of self-boasting (self-righteousness ) but does it not all come down to knowing the persons intent ... are all persons.

The ones who I have encountered have all been self-righteous/sanctimonious. It's always been with a view of telling me I'm wrong or bad or whatever. I despise the Bible for one simple reason...I was verbally beaten with it my entire marriage. Every disagreement was met with a quoted scripture. For instance, an argument was always injected with "The squeezing of the nose is what brings forth blood, you know...that's what you're doing...you're squeezing my nose and you're causing this argument". Or the WONDERFUL (dripping sarcasm) account of the Capable Wife was thrown in my face as an example of juts how I was falling short.
So I tend to balk, get nauseated, get angry when someone tries to quote the Bible to me. I automatically see them as self-important and holier than thou.

i agree with him that this "truth" has become like living in a police state, in fear of saying or doing anything that might even retroactively label you a "wicked person".

As a born-in in the 80's, I didn't see any difference between the "snake pit" then and the "snake pit" now. Maybe they have different kinds of snakes, but they're still snakes nonetheless.
Flip-flops in doctrine have always been there, right from the beginning. Needless deaths have been there right from the beginning. Corruption, hunger for power, pulling the wool over the sheeps' eyes, etc. It's all been there in one form or another.
