years ago my mom sold avon and i bought a necklace from her that had a bull head as the centerpiece.
(looks like the one above) i was first admonished by the overlords to not wear it because it was like walking around with a golden calf around my neck.
when i kept wearing it my mom was scolded for selling it to me and i was then scolded as well.
Oh CE, that goes for everything that they can pick on, though... Peace signs, a necklace with the sun and moon on it, etc... Those are "symbols of things in the heavens" and we shouldn't have them.
Makes me wonder what their justification is for drawing and painting pictures of angels in their literature... We couldn't have "images" of them in our homes (statues, figurines, pins, paintings, etc), so how is a picture in a magazine any different?

Considering you had to ask us in the first place and are having doubts about it to begin with, I'd say leave it alone and let her find someone else to help raise her kids... Personally, I don't think you could handle it.

it was my first since my "awakening" just less than a year ago.
apparently i made a lot of people happy by being there (even if it was only building up false hopes), the most important of which were my family.

for us it used to be a big no-no, but i think it has slowly grown more acceptable since many of our elders would be starving during the whole reject jesus party.... i always thought it was a bit funny when i saw brothers and sisters almost celebrating with a big feast and drinks on the night that the good ol' messiah sacrificed himself for all humankind!
it seems now more recently that since it is the only thing witnessess can celebrate, they go all out!
maybe i'll join in the festivities too.. so what about you guys?
Yeah it was kind of a tradition in the places I lived as well. You go and "celebrate" the Memorial, and then you do as Jesus and the Apostles did...have a meal, drink, and sing praises. In other words, have fun and make merry. And so we did.
i worked that day and had to get to the hall early.
never usually ate until after.. were you ever tempted to take a bite and a sip?.
Never was tempted... Was always hungry, though!! When we were kids, my mother wouldn't let us have dinner until afterward so we didn't spoil our clothes (small hall, one congregation when we were young). As an adult, I looked forward to going out afterward LOL.

@ St George: I predict in coming years, they will announce that the 144,000 isn't a literal number, but basically means a small percentage of total JWs/Memorial attenders. A literal "little flock" out of a "great crowd". This way, the number of partakers increasing won't be such a big deal because the Memorial attendance is increasing as well! How happifying!!

The last Memorial I went to was when I really observed how ridiculous the whole ritual is. "I touched it when I was passing it, but it doesn't count as touching it because an elder or attendant didn't pass it to ME, so I have to sit down with the other attendants and elders and the speaker and we'll pass it between ourselves..."
Then this is the kicker... The speaker went back up to the stage, the attendant who had passed the "emblems" to the other attendants and the speaker brought the wine/bread back up to the stage, put it down, and stood there at the table while the speaker picked it up again, handed it to him, he handed it back, the speaker put it down, and went back to the podium.
Talk about washing up to the elbow...
