did you experience an undercurrent of demon attacks/demonic fasination and regular discusions on the subject

whilst/current your time within the organisation did you experience an all too familiar story telling of demons/demonic attack/certian people having more problems then others ect.

i remember it was certainly a topic well discussed during my time stories that ran like wildfire/special people within the congregation who could "touch" things and "know" if they were demonised, families having trouble ~ in particular one family within the congregation that was receiving the most trouble ~ i sense an undercurrent of demonology within after meeting discussions/ warned never to buy second hand goods ect.

overall i always sensed a fasination with the subject amongst us ????

My ex was the biggest Demon Paranoid JW I ever met....

She would throw away gifts ...that were very Valuable rather than sell them to get money if the person who gave the gift she felt.....

had demon problems...

I would be so pissed at her ... I would be watching something on TV and if she felt it was dealing with the Occult she would FREAK OUT!!

I was accused of being Influenced by Demons and possibly being Demonic....

MINE TOO!! He made us move so many times because he thought the house was demonized. He made me throw away my belongings because he thought they were attracting demons (never HIS stuff, though!!). He told me I was a "dangerous demon" and his mother called me a "tool of Satan". Demon issues run rampant in his brain, and somehow they always get blamed on ME. I haven't been allowed to send my kids anything because supposedly, every time I do, they "have problems" and he and his wife fight... I call bullshit.

Growing up in the JW's, I always heard demon stories and how dangerous they were, blah blah. I was petrified of them, of course. Now, I don't believe in them at all, so I don't have fear of them.

I enjoy Dan Brown's books. jgnat, I think the idea he was trying to convey was that the art, places, etc that are depicted in his books ARE factual. Not that the fiction parts actually happened. For instance, The Last Supper is a real painting, as is the Mona Lisa, etc. Not that there was actually someone who wrote "So Dark The Con of Man" on a famous painting, but that the paintings and the places that house them DO exist...know what I mean?

hey all, i'm still embroiled in my ongoing debate w/a few jw's and now we're on this tangent where they are saying that jws are the most peaceful and law abiding people in comparison to other religious people.

i said that's not true, there's been many news articles that detail various crimes committed by jws.

i couldn't find anything right away when i did a google search, so can someone point me to some threads or links that contain recent and past articles of jw's in trouble w/the law or who have committed crimes?.

How's about a little EMBEZZLEMENT?? This POS is a repeat offender, worried the local congregations to death, all along his family KNEW what he was up to and feigned ignorance.

Now, if this were his first offense, and considering his circumstances (read comment below from one of his neighbors...it's absolutely true!) I'd be quick to say he just went off the deep end. But this was a second offense, both offenses being committed while he was a JW in good standing! And ya know what? I know FOR A FACT he was not DF'ed, but welcomed back into the congregation with open arms. Why? Because he has a brother-in-law and a father-in-law who are elders!

Joe DaSilva is back...he apparently got 3 months for embezzling over $75,000! Wow. What a nice vacation on taxpayer expense. Not his first offense...two, count them, two outstanding warrants--one in Northboro, MA; the other Tiverton, RI.

Well, Joe threatened me with eviction if my dog ran on "his" flower bed...my dog got loose once in four years...so I'm real happy to see how the mighty, self-righteous Joe has fallen, along with his wife. She couldn't get much more egotistical, while maintaining tons of illnesses. She's too ill to take in an empty barrel; she's too ill to cook (Joe did the cooking); those poor people had Stop & Shop Pea Pod delivering, because his "poor, sad" wife couldn't shop. She could, however, entertain girlfriends all day, every day before Joe got home. They just apparently sat around and talked all day???

This was passed along to their daughter. No college for her. No aspirations for a good job with attendant salary -- nosireee...she got herself a boyfriend -- just like Joe. She'll be waited upon hand & foot until he, too, gets sick to death one day, and takes off.

Anyhow, now that they have their ill-gotten gains from stealing, they've put their place on the market and are ready to move on.

GO, good riddance, Joe and Company.

pathetic, disgusting, and we taxpayers are footing the bill for food stamps now! OMG.

Not to bring religion into it, but what an awful example of Jehovah Witnesses in this family.

i was curious because i had heard simon was a jw when he started this forum.

i was looking through the old posts, but couldn't really pinpoint one that was a "turning point" so-to-speak.

simon must have left the j-dubs at some point.

i don't even know where to start.

every jw i still have contact with is poor, their health is bad, they're stressed out, they're unhappy people.

they put on a good front but you can see the strained smiles, those distant looks into nowhere (or where their life could have gone).

From my own personal experience, yes... While I was still in, I was depressed and at some points suicidal. I've been on a few different anti-depressants over the years. When I stopped attending the meetings, I started weaning myself off my meds. It's been almost a year and I haven't needed them at all. I have my down days just like everyone else, but for the most part, I'm happy and I'm my genuine self now instead of a shell of the person I should have been. I feel alive instead of just existing. I know there have been quite a few cases of those who had to be on meds while in, but once they left they were fine.

Many of the JW's I know whine because after everything they have to do in order to "keep in step with Jehovah's Organization", they don't have time or energy to do what they need to do in order to live. One girl I know pioneered out of high school instead of going to college like she had wanted to. She works multiple jobs and pioneers. She comes home and gets her ass chewed out because she didn't clean, didn't study, isn't making her pioneer hours...whatever her mother feels like bitching about that day. She gets yelled at or grounded if she doesn't make her pioneer hours for the month. It's friggin' ridiculous. I've said it time and again...the hours a JW puts in service should be between them and Jehovah, not anyone else. One thing I despised about this cult was that people felt it was up to them to police everyone else. It's not up to her dad to get all pissed about a commitment SHE MADE as an ADULT and one that should be her business alone. But, he's an elder and has to keep looking good with 2 kids pioneering and one heading toward MS-hood.

Lets assume that the Bible is accurate - odd about Adam having sex with his wife?

i was reading the book of jashar and it talks about how adam "knew" his wife after they were kicked out from the garden.

does this mean that they did not have sex prior to this incident?

also in jashar, chapter two it says adam once again knew his wife in the 130th year.

Yeah, the whole "Cain married his sister" thing never sat well with me and was one of the things that caused me to investigate the bible itself.

Cain went off on his own, away from his family. It doesn't say he took anyone with him! SO how was it that he married his sister if he was off on his own and so far away? This makes me think there were other peoples alive at the same time and he took a wife from among them. There are WAY too many holes in the bible story for it to be the least bit credible. Way too much room for speculation.

Lack of true friends as a Witness

it was kind of a sad realization i had the other day that as a witness you are conditioned to not have friends.

i realize that most of this fact is related to my own stupidity and arrogance.

when i was in my teenage years i had a great group of friends that i ran around with.

Yes yes yes! Absolutely! This post struck a chord with me because this was my experience. I had a couple of friends in my early teens, and that was it. Before that, none...I was considered bad association because my dad was not a JW, so the good little dubbies weren't allowed to hang around with me. Add to that the fact that the girls in my congregations were the snobbiest, most superficial, backstabbing group of twats I'd ever had the misfortune to meet. I hated them with a passion. I grew up hiding in the kingdom hall bathroom at the end of the meeting just to get away from them because they would make fun of anything they could...my clothes, my hair, ANYTHING.

When I was in my early teens, I made 2 friends...one who had an unbelieving father like me, and the other whose parents had divorced and her mom remarried a JW...so she was still kind of an outcast. The first girl...well, her dad cheated on her mom, they got divorced, and she left the "Truth" at about 15. The second girl got married young (I despise her husband, always have...I've known him since I was a kid. Elder's son, total bastard...beat the shit out of her for the first 6 or so years of their marriage). She's one of those who would rat you out to the elders, though...so when I started my fade, she was the first to go. I found the other girl on Facebook and sent her a message...she thought I was still a JW and was rather curt in her reply, stating that if she were DF'ed, I wouldn't even be bothering with her...so I explained I wasn't a JW anymore and she apologized and agreed it's all bullshit. So we message each other once in awhile.

In all the months since I've stopped going to meetings, I've had ONLY elders call or come by to see how I am. Not one person from the congregation. I did have one person send me a card telling me she cared and whatever it is that I'm going through, she hopes I'll come back to Jehovah...thing is, she was a study at the time and used to be my aunt by marriage a LOOOOONG time ago. So, "family" who wasn't baptized yet. That's the only other person who reached out besides the elders...after having known these people for over 30 years. Superficial, indeed!

Facebook May Defeat Disfellowshipping

i noticed an ex-witness sister on facebook - smiling, looking happy, expressing nice thoughts for any to read -and she is disfellowshipped!.

in her extended family, more and more kids and grandkids are leaving the "truth" - and "friending" her!

it might even be that she now is part of the majority of the extended family.

I think it's definitely going to pose a problem for the boys in Brooklyn... They keep warning against it, but so many JW's just aren't listening. I have DF'ed ppl on my Facebook...friends and family alike. I don't have even ONE JW on it...I deleted them all when I quit going to meetings.

why does the watchtower call them marriage mates and not spouse?

Oh what about the phrase "having relations" with reference to sex?? I HATED THAT!! My mom would always refer to someone as "having relations" and in a hushed tone like it was something so horrible...as in "Well, ya know, Jehovah doesn't like it when people are out havin' relations with this one and that one...". My ex used to call it "having intimate time" . It's sex. Just freakin' call it SEX. Jesus Christ, what's the big freakin' deal?!
