troubled mind~ If you weren't from Illinois, I'd say we knew the same sister!! There was one in my cong that actually called it "The F Word". She was in service with a group and one younger sister said "fart" in some context. Well, when he husband came back from the door he and another brother were at, she said "You won't believe what _____ said!!". Well, the younger sister looked at her in disbelief not knowing WHAT in the world she could have said that warranted being tattled on! So she said "Huh?? What did I say??" and the sister looked at her husband and said "She said THE F WORD!!". Well, that younger sister got so enraged and of course she denied it up and down! Then she thought maybe she should ask the sister WHICH F word she was referring to...
The sister whispered... "You know.... *sigh*....fart". The younger sister rolled her eyes and said "Oh...yeah I said that...so what???".
This older sister was NOTORIOUS for being sensitive about that one stupid word. I said it at a gathering one time within earshot of her and another sister said "you might want to watch your language. ____ is over there". So I said "AND??? I'm not going to change the way I speak just because she's offended at the word FART. Gimme a BREAK!! She's the only person in any congregation I've been in who is offended by it...SHE needs to get over it". Later on, she came over and went into a schpiel about how a tree fell on her head and gave her supersonic hearing...basically a warning that she'd heard everything I'd said. I said "Oh, well that must be horrible to have to listen in to everyone's conversation all the time" and walked away.

Akward Moment On JWTalk.net
by Jehovah Witness inin a thread entitled "how did we meet our spouses mr or mrs right" a sister told a story of how she cheated on her husband and father of 3 kids with an alcoholic named.
when her husband found out he put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her but she wasn't moved by that and eventually got a divorce.
she is now married to rick but he has no interet in being a witness.

Oy. More convoluted logic. Her husband wanted nothing to do with her, she met someone else, when he found out he wanted back in. She refused, they went their separate ways and she's with someone else. Big deal.
As for the last comment about seeing someone you're not married to and thinking they're "hot", nothing wrong with looking as long as you don't touch. We're HUMAN fo crying out loud. We're not going to just look at our spouse the rest of our lives and NOT look at others. It's normal and natural...something the JW's know nothing about with all the rules and regulations.

Submitting an experience to WTS
by tootired2care injust curious, you always hear of the experiences in the yearbook or the wt about how jehovah provided for some lowly pioneer or disadvantaged person, or someone that put jehovah first.
were you ever personaly involved in one of the experiences or involved enough in the background to see how these experiences were authenticated for publications or assembly?
i'm wondering how much of these stories we hear are exaggerated or just outright lies, and what they had to do to sell it to us to motivate us to pioneer.

My mom was enlisted to give a demonstration at an assembly of an experience she had. Mind you, my mom is very prone to exaggeration (seriously...she remembers things WAY more dramatic than they happened and somehow when someone is DF'ed, she "had a feeling she should keep her distance" beforehand). So they had fun and really played up what happened. I mean, something that happened when she was going door to door and lasted all of a minute turned into a 5 minute reinactment, followed by a Q&A session. It was ludicrous.
There was a guy who had an experience that was printed in one of the rags awhile back. Supposedly in his former life he was a badass and most people were afraid of him, blah blah. He gave his experience at an assembly and he is in my parents' circuit. My dad went and introduced himself and they became close friends. I know from quite a few people here who were called on to give assembly experiences that a lot of stuff is made more dramatic or severely embellished to make it look better to the crowd. Smoke and mirrors.
So, while some of the experiences have a hint of truth to them SOMEWHERE, they're greatly embellished in order to make it look like these people are being BLESSED for their efforts...and you ain't gettin' crap!!

Rant about Toddlers and Tiaras and Dance Moms...
by Chemical Emotions inomfg.... .
i keep coming across these shows...what are they doing to their poor kids?
mostly i am refering to tat, which is guilty of glorifying the screaming and yelling at, as well as physically hurting of kids.

Agreed 1000%
I despise TaT and am kind of glad we don't have cable right now lol. It's not just the abuse these kids get from being made into living dolls...I mean, what toddler needs false lashes, a spray tan, and parading around half bare-assed in front of a crowd? It's also the fact that these shows are basically making it easy for pedophiles to get their "fix". It's also the attitudes that are being instilled in these little girls. It basically says "If you're not gorgeous and made up, if you don't win a prize for being absolutely fabulous, you're nothing...winning is everything".
And the BEHAVIOR that's encouraged by the lack of real discipline from the parents is appalling. My child would never tell me "shut up" or scream at me, hit me, kick me, etc...because that behavior would be nipped in the bud, tout suite. I'm the parent...I'm not their friend, I'm not their buddy, I'm NOT their equal. I'm the mother, and parenting is my job. These people try to be their child's friend, and therefore don't discipline or think it's cute when their child acts like a spoiled brat.
All they're doing is training future strippers and porn stars, in my opinion.

Australia Pioneer Convention experience.....we at veggies from the gutter...encouraging!!!!
by Witness 007 ini'll never forget sitting at our district convention when a lovely pioneer family came on to tell us their experiences.
they father went on about how the struggled at times but "jehovah provided" like the time a fruit and veggies truck must have lost some of it's load and they filled there bags?????
not very encouraging at all.

YUP. Our CO in Pioneer School claimed that a bread truck was driving by him and a fellow pioneer and they were starving...and a loaf fell off the back of the truck (um, aren't the doors on those trucks CLOSED when they're in transit??). He also claimed that on another occasion when they were again starving, a farmer drove by in a truck full of veggies and one of the farm hands started throwing cabbages at them. He said they picked them up and made cabbage soup (glad I wasn't a resident of that home!!! ).
Another experience of a sister who was sent door to door alone with her baby. The baby stroller had a squeaky wheel and she was so stressed out being all alone and having that squeaky wheel that she sat down and cried on the curb, praying to Jehovah and saying that she could carry on if the squeaking would stop... She opened her eyes and there was a can of WD40 on the ground...

I get highly annoyed when people expect everyone to pander to their sensitivities. I can understand people being offended at vulgar language. But at real words that are used in everyday speech and are neither insulting, degrading, nor crass or vulgar?
It just reminds me so much of being a kid and having my mom come racing in the room to change the TV, or yelling from the other room "TURN THAT OFF!! THEY SAID 'The MAGIC of Disney!!!" or "They're talking about BIRTHDAYS!! CHANGE IT!!".
UGH. Get over yourself. You're not the only person in the world, not everyone is as sensitive and easily offended as you. Sometimes I think the world has a ton of people that just look for ways to get offended at stupid things because it makes their life that much more interesting.

Ugh, so sorry oompa *hugs*. You're right...no one should have to first lose their parents to a cult and then eventually lose them to the grave. Once is enough. I don't have nearly the relationship I had with my parents before, but my mom will at least speak to me when I call (and call me to make sure I'm okay when, say, a tornado passes through lol).
