  my mother became a jw when i was six months old so i was brought up within the confines of the organisation.

  i left properly in my early twenties and i am now 43 so a good 22 years of life, post being a witness have i travelled and documented thus far.

  mine was a typical experience of a child in the congregation and i was busy doing my best to be a little adult as the child within slowly fell asleep.

  Wow Paul, a big warm welcome, I was getting emotional reading your story as I am a 40 year old father with children who like you you started young (my first daughter was born when I was a 22 year old pioneer). I was born into the truth and can relate to your memory of answering up along with other memories such as the first talk given, assemblies.....

  I made the mistake of waiting until my late 30's to begin the fade, my 2 oldest daughters had already stopped going and now I realise how much we have missed out in our relationships because of "spiritual responsabilities" I am attemting to make up for lost time.

  Paul, over the years, so many elders and elders wives have made hurtful, insensitive comments that you look back and think they deserved one big slap across the face!   Saddest day of my life

  i followed my instincts that the changes my 14 year old son is going through ran deeper than teenaged angst and i made an appointment for him to see a counselor through the county so he could talk to someone.

  it took two months to get it.

  we went yesterday, he and i. i spoke for a little about our life now, including the separation, the house, the jws, the shunning, my husbands alcoholism and his treatment of the kids, my husbands familial bipolar and depression and adhd...and then she spoke to my son separately.

  of course, i realize that not all members of the board would have a belief-basis to answer the above.. for the sake of discussion, however, do you see examples - biblical [applicable in our day] or extra-biblical - wherein an individual intent on serving god in loyalty and truth could be directed by his spirit to act courageously against the society's enforced "conscience"?.

  Hi CoCo,

  I remember talking with an elder once about a brother whom he was being negative about (because of independant thinking). This bro was an ex-elder, a lot of experience, intelligent and understanding of people as he had been through the school of hard knocks in life. He had some different angles on some scriptures that were opposite of the wtbs, in particular the 1914 generation. I posed the question that this brother could be right, that the holy spirit seems to present in his personality and his life in general, so what's stopping him from having a correct understanding?

  Man, I was nearly executed by the firing squad that day. NO, only the gb or big wigs from Brooklyn can have the h/spirit give them new light/understanding. Then the usual line of waiting on Jehovah/being patient/dribble.....

  But in answer to your question, yes!

  i was speaking to a family member who is still a jw in very good standing and she told me that last week she was told by an elder of very good repute in my old congregation this:-.

  he has been told that any of the current governing body when they die will not be replaced!!!!!!!!!!.

  i cannot even begin to take this in!.
