Hey... I just wanted to thank you all for the good discussion! Lots to learn here... I knew that the Declaration of Independence was "inspired" by the Magna Carta, but I didnt think about the the MC being influenced by Greek/Pagan culture. Interesting! Thanks NC

The Polarizing of America: Rep. Michele Bachmann wins Iowa Straw Poll
by darthfader inhttp://news.yahoo.com/bachmann-wins-gop-2012-test-vote-224544660.html.
minnesota rep. michele bachmann won a test vote of iowans on saturday, a show of strength five months before the state's caucuses kick off the gop presidential nominating season.. the result is the first indication of what iowans think of the field of republicans competing for the chance to challenge president barack obama next fall.
but it's hardly predictive of who will win the winter iowa contest, much less the party nod or the white house.. well... there goes the neighborhood....

My wife and I are self employed, we have 3 enployees, we cannot qualify for a group policy as we need a total of 5 (not counting ourselves) members. There are "groups" we could join, but they all seemed to offer really convoluted policies that had disturbing exceptions. I dont think it should matter if you are a large corporation or a self employed person, the pricing should be the same. t more
Insurance should only be able to charge a person a bit more as they get older until they reach retirement age where the rate falls to a nominal level for retirees.
Insurance should have classifications for only the basic risks, smokers vs non-smokers, obese vs non obese. They should offer to pay completely to assist you to get out of these higher risk categories.
Employers should not be in the health care selection business, Health insurance should be purchased the same way we purchase automobile insurance -- better competition, published rates, the ability to compare policies between companies.
PECs should not be a way to deny a person coverage, they have to cover you, maybe with a 30-90 day exception. And a PEC cant be considered if you currently have insurance.Just my thoughts...

NC, I believe that the republicans want to replace "Obamacare" with a list of the following actions:
1. Medical liability reform -- reduce the ability to sue for malpractice and cap the award amounts.
2. Enable purchasing insurance across state lines -- widening competition and allowing for better economies of scale for Ins companies -- thereby lowering costs to the consumer
3. Expand the medical spending accounts -- including prescriptions and possibly annual rollovers etc.
4. Ensure coverage for people with existing conditions -- expand the concept of risk pools across states, make it illegal to deny coverage of persons with PECs
5. And of course they want to eliminate tax funded abortions.
It seems to me that both parties are attacking the wrong problem... It's not an insurance problem; it's a high health care problem. My insurance premiums increased this year by another 20%. The insurance company listed the costs of services (annual physicals, routine checkups, misc. Dr. visits and tests) from the past 5 years. All the health care costs have increased by 10 - 20% annually.
Why does health care cost so much? Why are we paying more each year (more than CPI) for the same services? Shouldn’t they be able to reduce costs each year because of new technology and increased efficiencies?Cheers!

NEW RUMOR: WT ALLOWS BIRTHDAYS
by J.R.R.Watchtower ini've just read at a spanish forum for ex-jw that the wt has cooked a new light article series about social celebrations, including birthdays and aniversaries.
according to a member of this forum 'in short' the wt will let witnesses to decide by 'their bible trained conscience' either they celebrate birthdays or not.
is this rumor based in some real facts or it's just bullshit?.

Woo hoo... let the beheadings begin!
I'll wait to see it in the WT or some other official literature before I get any hopes up.

I’m agnostic, largely because I can’t prove or disprove that god (or any creator paradigm you with to choose) exists. Why are we here? Where are we going? Who created us and what does she want from us?
I think about the universe as being a bubble in a much larger environment that has always existed. There are literally an infinite number of universes, all with varying degrees of physics. Each of these universes exists for some period of time then ceases to exist. Our universe is just one that has favorable physics that allowed subatomic particles to coalesce out of the matter/antimatter imbalance and form what we have today. There are a number of scientific studies done in parallel with some extremely sophisticated mathematics that support this multiverse concept and even show that there is a gravitational effect that crosses from universe to another.
In addition to this is the concept, there is the thought that our existence in this universe is actually a two dimensional representation of the three that we occupy. We are actually holograms encoded on the surface of our universe. There are some tests that show the granularity of our world breaks down and becomes “noisy” at extremely small distances at the exact ratio of the surface area of a universal sphere divided by its volume.
I know that this doesn’t answer questions about gods and creators, but I think it puts a pretty good scale to the vastness of “everything” and just how small we are.<tiny>

Rainbows
by Aussie Oz inwe had the most fantastic rainbow here yesterday, probably the most solid colored one i have ever seen.
it reminded me that jehovah would never again flood the earth... not!.
i remarked to my daughter that the rainbow reminded me that the genesis account was a myth like the aboriginal dream times...rainbows are science, sunlight, rain mist/drops and refracted light.. i said, after it had rained and the sun came out, no matter whether 'god' was involved or not, there was going to be a rainbow.

Why Won't They Carbon Date This?
by Perry in"for the first time in human history a dinosaur fossil is presenting us with the opportunity to see what a living dinosaur looked like.
in 2001 a field research team unearthed the worlds most complete dinosaur fossil, a brachylophosaurus nicknamed leonardo.
this incredible dinosaur has all of its skin covering its body, missing only a bit on the head and tail.

My dad wants them to carbon date the fossilized tissue and have it say that it's not 70 million years old, but maybe 50,000 years or something that more closely aligns with biblical chronology (whatever that is).
