Sir82... I tend to agree -- unfortunately -- it just seems a little defeatist.

It an interesting thing, in the past 20 years we went from only "seeing" stars in the sky to seeing stars AND planets. Not just a one here and there, but many orbiting just about every star we chose to look at. They are constantly "upping" the number of estimated planets in our galaxy. I read someplace that there may be hundreds of billions of planets and 60 billion estimated to be in habital zones (its just statistics, so it could change significantly). Some of the planetary systems got their "head start" billions of years ahead of us. We have a hard time prognosticating the next few years, but what about a civilization that has 1 million or even 1 bllion years jump on us.
I agree with Carl Sagan who wrote "The universe is a pretty big place. If it's just us, seems like an awful waste of space."
So with all of this "conjecture" it comes down to 1 of a couple things:
a) Life exists "out there" but it's nearly impossible to survive it's self destruction
b) Life Exists "out there" and there is advanced technology, but is "impossible" to travel the distances between our planets
c) Life Exists "out there" and there is advanced technology, and interplanetary travel is possible, but the is some "Prime Directive" that prevents their involvement with us.It would be facinating if there were contact. I'm not one of the negative nellies who believe it would be bad for us. If some alien race had the ability to travel the great distances, our resources wouldn't be of any interest.

Britain | Jehovah's Witnesses hushed up child sex scandal | July 16, 2013
by jwleaks inchurch officials hushed up a child sex scandal in their ranks and refused to co-operate with police.. .
jehovah witness ministerial servant gordon leighton admitted sexually abusing a child when he was confronted by his church elders, a court heard.. but during the official police investigation, the 53-year-old who made headlines in the 1990s when wife yvonne, 28, died after refusing a blood transfusion after childbirth on religious grounds denied any illegal wrongdoing.. and when detectives asked elders simon preyser, harry logan and david scott to make statements about the confession, all three refused and said what they had heard was confidential.. for three years, the elders refused to co-operate with the criminal investigation and kept up that stance when the case was brought before newcastle crown court after the victim made a complaint to police.. each was issued with a witness summons which they fought to overturn before being ordered to testify by judge penny moreland citing public interest.. their barrister richard daniels said the men had a duty to god not to breach confidence.. he added: privileged communication between members of the congregation and ministers is an absolute right and duty and there is no power in law to breach such a confidence.. judge moreland said: it is apparent that the three elders who were present when this conversation took place are in possession of relevant evidence as to a point which is of real significance in this case.. they claim the right of confidentiality, they claim that what they heard said by the defendant during the course of that meeting ought to be subject to privilege, as ministers of religion.. judge moreland refused to withdraw the summonses and said: public interest is clearly in favour of this evidence being given.. what was said by the defendant on that occasion is of great significance in the trial.. despite the judges ruling, the men still refused to make statements to police until just hours before they were called before the jury.. leighton, who has since been expelled from the church at lambton kingdom hall in washington, denied two charges of indecency with a child and seven of indecent assault.. he was yesterday found guilty of two charges of indecency with a child and six of indecent assault.
he was found not guilty of one indecent assault charge, on the direction of the judge.. he was remanded in custody until he is sentenced next month but warned he is facing a lengthy spell behind bars.. prosecutor katherine dunn told the court the victim, who is now an adult, broke her silence in 2009.. the court heard how at a special church meeting, leighton admitted sexual abuse and made excuses for his behaviour.. miss dunn said: the elders conducted their own investigation.

Can anyone define the differences between the Elders "care" for their R&F members and a Priest and his (her in some cases) parishioner? I am wondering if truely the JW's have no leg to stand on because it's not a "confession" and the "relationship between the "sinner" and the Elders is not the same as for a Priest. In that case there is no "protection"..

Considering what it takes to build a 3d printer, they would have to "control" way to many common electronic and mechanical parts. A Raspberry PI open source embeddable computer, some stepper motors, software you can download from the internet and some basic wood fabrication skills, and you can begin to print. Maybe even print a more refined cabinet for the next printer. Of course this method will take hunderes of hours of labor and tinkering before you can print that lovely purple Yoda head you've wanted.
Also the printing of guns is a bit of a concern especially if they are able to print it with an entirely non-metallic medium (like ceramic). But there are still thousands of machinists who could produce a metallic gun today with basic metalworking tools -- how many years have we had lathes.
I think the 3D printing technology is is only the beginning. At some point they will develop a completely automated "pick and place" machine that will print it's own boards and all you have to do is feed it with raw materials for the boards and electronic components. If you combine these technologies along with nearly universal CNC metal machining (just about every metalshop that's busy has one of these), there's literally nothing you couldn't build.
"Star Trek Replicators" here we come.... lol

Im sure these points listed in this article are not new to everyone, but I found this pretty interesting:
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-07-15/george-zimmermans-acquittal-four-blunt-observations1. Zimmerman was at fault for killing Trayvon Martin.
2. The “system” sometimes works in mysterious ways.
3. The next step should be a private wrongful death suit, not a federal civil rights prosecution.
4. Liberal gun-control advocates are already overplaying their hand. -

By the way (sorry for multiple posts)... I dont think it's "fair" that the US is outsourcing these jobs to thrid world countries... It's not a level playing field - but that's another argument.

Didnt you hear... the number one manufacturer of Apple products Foxconn is investing in robotic assembly lines like never before. So today there are millions of Chinese workers inserting electronic components into circuit boards, but tomorrow they will be out of work.
