I think most of us who were witnesses said similar at one point or another. I remember saying basically the same thing when a relative died. Words to the effect that 'at least he's made it now'. He wasn't a witness, yet because he died before the tribulation, I figured he was now safe. At the time, it was such comfort that one day I'd see him again. These days I ponder on what type of man he was when alive and treasure those memories. It's a hard thing to stomach when you're coming out of the religion, that there may be no resurrection at all but better to live in the here and now.

"At least He/She died before 'Armageddon'..." How do you counter this....?
by ziddina inwe've seen this, or have heard of it..... a tragic death happens - often it's even caused by watchtower edicts, like shunning or "no blood" policy.... and the brainwashed - or brain-dead - witnesses resort to yammering watchtower propaganda - "at least he/she died before 'armageddon', so maybe he'll / she'll have a chance at being 'resurrected'...".
we've all seen the insane level of hypocrisy within the watchtower society... i've several examples in mind, wherein the witness parent shunned a witness child, leading to the child's suicide or indirectly to his/her death, and then the witness - make that witless - parent stands there at the funeral mouthing that "at least he/she died before 'armageddon', so maybe he'll / she'll have a chance at being 'resurrected'..." line of b.s.
..... what can one say to block that self-congratulatory blather??

A message to the Special Pioneer brother who knocked on our door Sat Mornings if we missed Witnessing as Newlyweds!
by Witness 007 ingeorge ________ you are an idiot.
we were both newly married and working full time and enjoyed a saturday morning sleep-in and would you believe this idiot "special pioneer" would drive up with a witnessing car group and knock on our door saying: "hi brother 007, we missed you at the group this morning...." yes thats because i was having sex, thanks for ruining it.
he was a single, rumored gay brother, about 40 years old who could never find the right sister.

Who did you love Jehovah or your boyfriend/your girlfriend the most while you were in the org?
by asilentone inwe were taught to love jehovah more than anything in the world.
right?.

I was always taught to love Jehovah more than anyone else. In fact, it was always said from the stage that when you marry, you should love Jah more than your partner.

First Date...
by White Dove ina man i met at work (customer) gave me his e-mail address, so i contacted him.. we've been e-mailing for a few days now, and it's time for a first date.. i suggest starbucks.. he insists on the park.. it's 106 degrees!
i suggest starbucks, again because it's too hot to walk in the park.. he says that maybe we should cancel because the heat doesn't bother him.. he said, "i'm a very practical man...maybe you can't handle the heat.".
this is my first phoenix, az summer.

Alarm bells went off when I saw he didn't care that you didn't like the heat. He hasn't even got you on the date yet and he's being a pig.

Big hugs to all of you going through turmoil! 17 is a difficult age and girls are notorious for holding grudges...lol. She probably feels lost at what to do because her other siblings have already turned against you, so feels she has no choice. No matter what, you'll always be her mum! I don't doubt she loves you very much but is confused and not knowing exactly who to turn to. Writing the letter was a good thing. Just give her time, I'm sure she won't cut you off completely, at least I hope not

I was never DF'ed, I wasn't abused, I never lost a loved one to the ban on blood
by OnTheWayOut instrange title, huh?.
the point is that i wasn't "burned" in some incredible way by wts and i don't carry a huge chip on my shoulder from some incredible injustice from wts or the local elders.. i say this because some people have constantly accused me of being really screwed over by my experience because of my comments on others' threads.
i explained myself there for my reasons, but wanted to repeat what those reasons are here in my own thread.. i explained on some post somewhere that i had felt that i experienced "divine intervention" in my life at one time and that same intervention ended my suicide attempt.

When I express my doubts or roll my eyes at certain things, all I hear is 'don't be bitter'. I'm not bitter. Far from bitter. Just disappointed and feel as if I've missed out on so much in life due to my upbringing as a JW. It's not that I am jealous because I'm not....I would just like to live the rest of my life 'normally'. I've experience both sides of the 'love' thing....couple of bad congregations, one good and yet I now don't believe any of what I was taught to believe. I guess it may take the rest of my life to undo the brainwashing.

No Link Found Between Vaccine Mercury and Autism
by leavingwt insome red meat for the anti-science crowd.
no link found between vaccine mercury and autisma new government study adds to the evidence that thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative until recently found in many vaccines, does not increase children's risk of autism.. it shows kids who had been exposed as babies to high levels of the preservative -- through vaccines they received or their mothers received while pregnant -- were no more likely to develop autism, including two distinct subtypes of the condition.. .
"this study should reassure parents about following the recommended immunization schedule," said dr. frank destefano, director of the immunization safety office at the centers for disease control and prevention (cdc) in atlanta, and the study's senior author.. .

I have children with Autism, they are high functioning, but what I find interesting is the increasing number of children being diagnosed. Perhaps it is caused by environmental factors, a gene, a vaccine, poor diet...who knows! It could be many things or maybe just 'something that happens'.Science doesn't have the answer yet.
Perhaps more are diagnosed because people are better aware and don't resort to mental institutions anymore, realising that just because one is Autistic and 'different', doesn't make them weird or any less a part of society. All we can do is work with the condition/disorder and make sure we treat the person respectfully and engage therapies that work best for them. No two Autistic people are the same, it's a very individual thing.

What's wrong with my friends?
by Alan_56 ini really can't stand it when i can't go to someones house just because they are "worldy".
why can't i just be a normal teenager and be able to choose my friends whom ever they may be?
i told my mom i don't have any witness friends then she told me "well you better find some or else your gonna have some serious problems".

Alan I can appreciate and sympathise with your situation. Mine was fairly similar, no JW friends, yet not allowed to associate with 'worldly' ones outside of school. Only now that I am much older do I not feel guilty associating with 'normal' friends that aren't witnesses. But while you are living with your parents, listen to them and show them respect because they are only doing what they think is right. When you're older, you can make your own decisions
