I would say for a couple of reasons,
1. They believe what they teach and
2. They love the hope of everlasting life it provides.
ok, so you've gotten past the fact they are not jehovahs channel of communication, and that it's just a bunch of men behind the curtain.
so then the shift goes to why do they do it?
i mean control is ok, some people crave it, but what is the big pull?

for many jw's i know personally, who suffer from chronic illness, the hope of 'the new system' is what they look forward to.
you know, being able to throw the cane away, lose the wheelchair, see again etc.. now that you're out of the organisation, how do you deal with chronic illness?
if you suffer with an affliction, disease, impairment, how has your hope changed?

Now that you're out of the organisation, how do you deal with chronic illness? If you suffer with an affliction, disease, impairment, how has your hope changed? Do you now believe in dying and going to heaven? Or do you accept that everyone dies at some point? What comfort do you hold dear?
just wondering of those that pray and who have left the organisation, do you still address god as jehovah?.
i think i'm currently in that awkward stage where i'm neither in or out, yet don't feel i should even address, or have the right, to talk to god (jehovah) until i decide where i sit.
so i'm wondering if it's hypocritical to pray and use his name.

Only read the first page so far....they are car tyres :P
When I visited America many years ago, I noticed how the WT had substituted spellings, and also for instance, where we would put 'kilometres', it had been replaced with 'miles'. We also say bonnet for your 'hood'. We also drive on the left :)
so, i'm totally confused about the whole 1914 thing.
maybe i missed out on hearing the new line of thinking regarding it, i don't know.
so what is the latest thinking regarding it?
Hahaha Chris! Sounds like they'd been on some kind of trip!
hope some light can be shed for me here :).
to cut a long story short, ex left me well over a year ago and filed divorce proceedings on me from another country.
was thrown out of court as the jurisdiction wasn't correct.
Thanks Bluecanary :) I'm not in the US....but he has gone back there. I spoke to legal people here and they told me I needed to divorce him in case he is running up more debt back in the states.
Minimus, yes I want to leave. I was talking to my mum about the divorce today. I told her that apparently I can be reproved for doing it. She said that if I was, to take it on the chin but reiterate to the elders WHY I divorced him (financial reasons) but then suck it up and take the reproof. I got a bit huffy and told her no way would I accept reproof when I'd done nothing wrong. She got a bit annoyed with me, because I am sure she senses she is losing me 'to the world'. She told me not to think like that, then I added that I'd tell the elders to get lost, that it's MY life. Then I told her I didn't want to talk about it anymore. It was left at that.

Lou bou, hate to have been his wife....lol
Why would people be shocked that an elderly sister got up and sung a song? I would've clapped and thought it was great! Not sure on all the lyrics of that song, but, it was probably from her time, a song she knew well.
on atj's thread about making jw's seem "normal,' outlaw asked the questions:.
what the hell are a bunch of jw ladys doing in the wilderness... .
driving around in a beater car?.
I was 12 and working with a married 23yr old sister on the doors one day, when she started doing her presentation to a creepy looking man. Before we knew it, he'd lunged out and grabbed her boob!! She looked at his hand, then at me...and then she said 'thankyou for your time' and we walked off quickly. I was in such shock. She should've belted him one...lol
