I grew up when kids had few rights. Teachers could do just about anything and seldom were there any repercussions . I had a teacher in 2nd grade who knew we did not celebrate Xmas but she wanted to shame and humiliate me in front of the class. She made me get up and tell everyone what I got for Xmas. My dad would hide something in a closet and give it to us the day before Xmas) I got one doll. The class laughed at me . It hurt. There are so many more stories but they are all similar, being singled out around holidays and patriotic days. I recall punishments such as detentions and standing in the hall and just plain being humiliated in class. It was not that far from the end of WW2 and folks just plain hated jws down here.

by yadda yadda 2 inin john cedar's (jwsurvey.org) latest excellent article on his blog about a us teacher that got reprimanded for trying to force a jw boy to salute the american flag, he relates a similar childhood experience where he was terribly humiliated at school in view of his classmates.. this reminded me of a similar humiliating experience i suffered at school, when i was 11 years old.
during our school's end of year 'prom night' (not actually called that in the country i live) which was in the style of a disco night, my unbalanced jw mother came to pick me up early and stormed right into the hall and grabbed my arm and pulled me out in front of all my friends right in the middle of the dancing.
on the way out she gave the teachers a lecture about the music being far too loud and how unwholesome the whole thing was for children of my age.

she remembers as a child that her jw parents believed that satan could come up through any perfectly round hole and cause you to sin.
for instance, if her father built a fire ring at the beach, he purposely put a corner on it so satan couldn't catch them.

but in browsing his site i was reminded of an early biblical story in genesis that essentially throws so much jewish and subsequent christian thinking out of the window.. .
can your mind handle the concept of yahweh standing in front of you, with a human body like yours, eating, drinking.

In the story of Lot ( I think), wasn't there a man who literally gave his concubine to a crowd of men and from the scriptures they abused her all night until she was dead. her owner tries to get her to get up and get on the donkey but she is of course dead. I used to know all these stories by heart but if you know what the exact place this text is located I'd appreciate it.

You do not have to be handsome at all. Intelligent men win hands down. Women are looking for a person who will be a good husband and father and provider. None of those have anything to do with looks. A good father is one of the sexist men on earth. Ever wonder why guys walk dogs and borrow other people's kids? It attracts women.
Maybe see a therapist and talk about this . Work on that personality and get involved with "causes" . Helping others is the greatest way to fill your time and meet someone. If this does not work for you, take a class in something that interests you. You can audit the class.

I was saving this for last , try hitting the single places. Brush up on the wardrobe and all that. You just need some success and then you will be more attractive to women.I know that is not fair, ie, first you need to score and then women will look at you, but it is sort of true.

I do attribute it to humanity, a very good man who went out of his way to help someone. I happen to also believe that people are sometimes in certain places for a reason. He was her angel that day.
I just choose to believe in a Creator and/or something bigger than myself.

What I got from listening to the video was the man thought it was "fate" that he was in the right spot at the right time. They just indicates he believes that God or His spirit or angels etc helped him be in the right spot. I actually believe the same things. Of course it was not an angel who saved her, it was a man, a good man who still cares about others and went out of his way to save another human being.

by neverendingjourney ini was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.
i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.
more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.

Yes of course Judge Judy, just keep your free thinking ideas to yourself and you can still be in the Borg. I guess that is like the elder I knew who was BI and so was his wife and they swung with the upper echelon jws and " free thinkers" while the rest of us pee ons were told to " tote that barge and lift that bale". yes two sets or more rules , one for the enlightened jws and one for the stupid worker bees.
It is a end time apocalyptic religion that is no better than the rest and worse than some.
