When I tell others that I WAS a JW. Their eyes get big and they kinda lean back away from me in a sense like, "oh stay away from me." I think its because they know of them to want force their beliefs on them. They always can't miss a oppertunity to preach. Gotta get them hours in somehow. Sfter I explain to them why I'm not a JW, and how I've been out of it for ten years they seem to relax.

how are the JW's viewed from the outside?
by tigeress ini know while in the org we get told alot to tell everyone that we are jw's, cos its reputation is so good.
but that dosn't explain why people still refuse to answer the doors to them, or hide when they come aknocking.. so how are jw's really viewed by the outside world?.

Any WINE buffs on here ?
by wobble ini am not an expert on wine, can't afford to be, but i do like a good one,preferably red, but i have tasted some excellent rose and white.. my question is for the benefit of my sister in law, she is a chain smoker, and perhaps for that reason cannot abide a wine that is even slightly dry, she only drinks white,but does not enjoy the sweet white she has bought (cheapo bottles) so sticks lemonade in medium or dry white.. that is o.k if she is paying, but i often buy a good quality white, around $20 , and she desecrates it by pouring in the lemonade !.
can anyone recommend a wine,not too expensive,that she would enjoy ?
i suppose for her strange palate it would have to be "sweet" , but she hates sickly sweet.

My favorite red wine is Shiraz. I saw a small bottle at walmart for $2.75. Its sweet, not dry. Worth trying.

I shut it off when they said the world mostly uses nuclear power for destructive uses. (then shows a giant mushroom cloud) They Lie. The world mostly uses nuclear power for constructive uses like pwering our house's, hospitals, and schools.

Oh, I've been out for over ten years. There's no harm done here other than meeting new friends who might be able to teach me something. My family is been outta touch since day one. I just didn't know if you were referring to the terms like maybe no one on this site should be trusteed or something, but you cleared things up. Thanks

On spanking your children...
by HintOfLime ini posted about this on my own website, but i'd like to get thoughts here as well, since jw's are big proponents of the 'violence is the answer' side of this debate.. new research is suggesting that spanking children may result in lowered iq's.
(la times article) one hypothosis i've read elsewhere as to why this may be is because when faced with an unexpected result (the glass broke) the non-spanked child wonders why the glass broke and how much abuse a glass can take before breaking (essentually, the problem-solving/scientific parts of the mind find the unexpected result interesting, and want to learn more).
the spanked child immediately enters fear mode - he's in trouble, his parents will be dealing him pain soon.

I was raised on spankings, I don't know of any other way. I have a 2 year old that sometimes just won't listen. What else can you do that works? He's a pretty tough kid. I mean he's not sensitive or nothing. I can talk to him sometimes and he will listen but when he's with momma while I'm at work if she doesn't spank him he walks all over her. I'd love to hear some advise that works.

If the message they teach is so important, why not use the televison? Or make it available on-line to anyone? The reason why is because they are a printing company and need to sell their magazines, books, brochures, and tracts.
