Why did "Back Calls" change to "Return Visits"?
by donuthole indoes anyone remember the rationale that was used in rebranding "back calls" as "return visits"?.

Congregation Book Study, became congregation bible study. Everyone still calls whatever we study 'the group book'
Company Servant became Congregation Servant became Presiding Overseer became Co-ordinator of the Body of Elders.
New World, New Order, New System seem to be on a 15 year rotation.
What a priveledge we indeed do have to be speaking the Pure Language as truth our hearts is reaching.
Obeying grammatical constructs in melodies of Kingdom songs, satanic it is.

Anyone remember the field service white slips on which you would record your not-at-homes?
When I was a kid I thought the slips were called essates. But really they were form "S-8".
As in "Sister, did you return last week's S-8s with the not at homes? I need to give that territory to Sister X for this morning's service, and I think there's a do not call on it"
You know you were a witness if you understood that.

nb - I hope Brother Dan comes back. But I understand how painful it is to have your cherished 'proven' beliefs shaken - don't we all!

Leolaia thanks for your posts here. It's so helpful to look at Daniel through a different interpretive lens than the WT one.

Generation Teaching - Everyone is speechless?
by Red Piller inmaybe the effect of this change is bigger than realized?
in 1995, it was discussed (positively) by everybody, during the week we studied the wt.
one elder stepped down and was looked down upon.

On the rare occasion doctrine is discussed among my JW friends, the attitude is "I've never cared about / understood the chronology stuff". Usually followed by:
"We're the only ones who preach/ don't believe the trinity / it's still God's organisation"
I think the society can do what they like doctrinally, as long as they don't take the paradise away.

Brothers Be Happy - WT Study for October 25-32, Earnestly Seek Jehovah's Blessing...
by jgnat init's no good just to go through the motions.
to achieve jehovah's blessings, the brothers and sisters must have the right heart motivation; to conduct their work in joy and love and remind themselves that the load is not burdensome.. but what if the work is boring and burdensome?
what if in the organization and scheduling of "god's organization", the spirit of the law has been lost?.

Quoting debator Watchtower style "Is it boring(?) ... definitely" .
Absolutely agree.

What made you start questioning: people or doctrine?
by In inlet us know what got you questioning wbts in the first place.
i've got a theory that it starts with people hurting us and only then does the "apostate" turn to looking at the beliefs.. anybody who started questioning beliefs first?.

Doctrine. As a born-in I completely believed everything & thought everything I disagreed with e.g. subjection of women, Cedar Point, Ohio, death of Solomon's baby etc was my fault for not having a good enough understanding. Then over the years my "wait on Jehovah" mental folder just became too big, & it crushed my faith.
As soon as I started trusting my own judgement the doctrines became laughable.
Many believing lurkers will now be thinking of the scripture "Do not lean upon your own understanding", to which I'd just say that if you're going to submit your whole life to someone elses "understanding", you'd better make damn sure they're worthy of your trust.
