  my first post and some questions

  this is my first post after deciding to finally open an account here after months of 'lurking'.. a couple of issues i want to address-.

  i have issues with people who go from being a witness to losing all faith in god or the bible which seems to be the case with some members of this site.

  i just don't think you can let any religion change how you view god or the bible.. second-i don't feel the gb are bad people, i think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.

  The governing body may be very well be sincere. But remember we used to say that there were sincere people in many other religions? But that they were sincerely wrong? Because for worship to be acceptable to God we have to worship in spirit and truth?

  Once you investigate the doctrines and prove them wrong to yourself. Much of the religion falls to pieces. Then if you tear down your mental "golden calves" and apply your critical thinking to the Bible you may understand how some of us go from true believers to agnostics or atheists.

  Former Longtime Elder : Contributions

  for a year now, i have been handling the accounts.

  we have 6 elders and 7 ms, and none of them ( i am not serving), want to do the accounts, so they asked me to do it.

  here is what i have noticed.. 4 elderly sisters cover the whole congregation in donations monthly!

  I never gave cash when I was in, I thought they have my time, that's worth more than money. My dad however must have given something like $40k in the time he's been a witness - that's not including the handouts to pioneers & COs.

  A question for elders and former elders who have served on JCs

  based on your experience of judicial committees, how would you advise someone who is due to meet with the elders and has asked for the best way to avoid being disfellowshipped?

  is denying everything ever a successful strategy?

  does addressing a letter to the elders threatening legal action if they disfellowship ever work?

  slimboy - the new elder book, chapter 6 paragraph 16 states in part: "In judicial cases where the accused threatens suicide, it may be best for the committee to suspend the hearing to focus on helping him regain his balance. They should assure him of the committee's desire to help him, then broach the subject of depression and suicide using the scriptures and bible based publications. Depending on his emotional state it may be best to do this a day or two later...The judicial comittee should avoid prolongong the case..."

  So it doesn't get you much of a reprive, unless you constantly threaten suicide and are willing to meet with them about your depression.

  Spiritually divided and the pain of it all...

  for those of you who still have faith in god and feel a need to worship him, i sincerely hope you have more peace than i feel.

  peace with my spiritual division with my wife continues to escape me.

  i really need someone to talk to to help me figure this out but my work schedule allows for so little time so i come here.

  I'm sorry you're going through this marriedtoajw. Religion comes first for a true believing JW and that does affected many religiously mixed marriages badly. It is rough. Hopefully some of the married members on here can help.

  When "The Persecution" Comes - What a Let Down that turned out to be!

  when i was young there was endless speculation about "the persecution".

  i have very clear memories as a child sitting in the old kingdom hall in coatbridge hearing it talked about from the platform.

  it was a frequent topic at home.. sometimes there was lurid detail about what sort of torture "they" might use against us to make us betray others.

  I also remember being taught that they might beat you until you passed out but "only the first blow would hurt".

  What a disgusting image to put in a child's mind!

The experiences of the JWs in Malawi in the 70s became the model of what we should all expect one day. We all worried about what particular torture we could not cope with and were told not to talk about our personal fears because the demons could hear and use it against us in "The Persecution"."

  Oh my, I remember being taught the exact same thing! Must have been very early 80's.

  Goodness me, the author all but called you a member of the "Jezebel Class".

  If there's any logical coherence in that rant I can't see it.

  But did they really compare protecting children from sexual abuse to the circumsicion debate?

  Bizarre.

  Heartfelt thanks from me Barbra, for all you've done. You HAVE made a difference. Somewhere there are JW children who haven't been abused because your actions meant the men who would have hurt them were reported.

  Try and get rid of your guilt. Even if you don't get baptised the person who is studying with you is counting at least 8 hours a month,1 bible study and 4 return vists. You're helping them make their time whether you get baptised or not, in fact it's better for them if you dont get dunked so they can continue counting their time...
