  i posted this paine quote in the middle of another thread but thought it deserved its own.

  this principle eluded me before reading the age of reason.

  it's such a simple, basic concept of justice and yet so many christians miss it (as i did) or ignore it.. .

  I don't think forgiveness had to be based on a blood sacrifice; simply on putting our faith and trust in Christ.

  Why do nouveau Christians insist on re-writing the bible and the entire doctrine of redemption because they find it objectionable that their God demanded blood sacrifice in order to appease his wrath at the human race?

  By his stripes we are healed. It HAD to be violent, it HAD to be blood, nothing else would do. I mean good grief the entire Jewish system of worship (instituted by God in the bible) involved blood sacrifice, and per scripture was just pointing to the ultimate blood sacrifice that was to come later.

  But in regards to to the Fall of Man, the "criminal" would have been Adam ( if he was an individual) and the for us, as long as we continue to perptrate his crime against God, we also would be "criminals".

  My brother is now being trained as a Circut Overseer.

  i received a phone call from my mother (who is still a jw, but very accepting of me still as her loving son, even though i was disfellowshiped for questioning the oranization and choosing the bible over the watchtower at that time).

  she makes normal talk, just regular stuff pertaining to situations of ours.

  about me coming to visit, and or her coming.

  Tell that to all the people who ask for an explanation. Oh right it's a "mystery", our lowly brains can't comprehend the relationship of the distinct but united father-son-ghost relationship.

  I think those are perfectly legitimate feelings to have. Even if the feelings are there because of how a twisted organization and community treated us growing up, they're still legitimate.

  I kind of felt the same way about my sister, until I made a conscious decision to stop caring about what these people, and my own family, thought of me. Had to cut them out of my life completely, lest I be sucked back into their downward spiral.

  I think my dad had kind of the opposite thing. And so did my wife when we were still in. No matter how much they toe'd the line and did the JW thing, THEIR parents always seemed to be alot more concerned with what their DF'd children who made terrible decisions were doing.

  Of course, maybe it's all just a matter of perception and natural sibling rivalries kind of overtaking us.

  Either way I hope you can find a way to make it better and easier on yourself. Does no good to do otherwise.

  Is it okay for MS to have a goatee?

  well, on his facebook profile pic he had a goatee on him.

  it looks like it is very recent and he gave the public talk very recently, after his talk, his congregation invited him for a dinner at someones house.

  i see a pic of him, but he is all clean shaven.

  It depends on your area, even within the US. I've heard there are some circuits nearby where the elders decided well-trimmed beard/whatever is ok.
