while i am no fan of mother teresa after reading some of the revealed facts about her life and work - i thought this was just a little out of the realm of polite conversation (but was interesting):.

Yadda Yadda 2:
What have these so called humanists ever done to help the poor, sick and suffering?
From wikipedia:
Norman Ernest Borlaug (March 25, 1914 – September 12, 2009 [1] ), "The Man Who Saved A Billion Lives", was an American agronomist, humanitarian , and Nobel laureate who has been called "the father of the Green Revolution". [2] Borlaug was one of six people to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. [3] He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honor. [4] Borlaug received his Ph.D. in plant pathology and genetics from the University of Minnesota in 1942. He took up an agricultural research position in Mexico, where he developed semi-dwarf, high-yield, disease-resistant wheatvarieties.
During the mid-20th century, Borlaug led the introduction of these high-yielding varieties combined with modern agricultural production techniques to Mexico, Pakistan, and India. As a result, Mexico became a net exporter of wheat by 1963. Between 1965 and 1970, wheat yields nearly doubled in Pakistan and India, greatly improving the food security in those nations. [5] These collective increases in yield have been labeled the Green Revolution, and Borlaug is often credited with saving over a billion people worldwide from starvation. [6] He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 in recognition of his contributions to world peace through increasing food supply.
Later in his life, he helped apply these methods of increasing food production to Asia and Africa. [7]
All you have to do is google "saved a billion people" and you don't get Mother Teresa... you don't get Jesus Christ...
You get a humanitarian scientist you probably never heard of.

yes, we can call them that now, without fear of being disfellowshipped for apostasy.. .

he's asking if i've read the first page of the new watchtower.. says page 8 admits and exposes the society's mistaken expectations.. says that both mags have been adjusted to reflect the understanding of generation.
asking if it is my position that witnesses have made claims to be inspired prophets.... and saying if it is, maybe *we* can consider together some examples in the bible of others who have had wrong expectations and have gone ahead of god's timetable and see how god handled that..
I love how they misunderstood the word "generation".
It's not their assumptions that prophesies have secondary fullfillments, convoluted mathmatic applying arbituary rules to arbituary numbers, basis on dubious dates like 607, etc... that could mean 1914 is the part they got wrong. Clearly that is so complicated they couldn't possibly be wrong about that.
No, it's a simple word like "generation" that they can't figure out.
The Watchtower is like a guy who built a car, but it doesn't run. If you stop and listen to the Watchtower, they are now trying to convince everyone that it is the shape of the wheel is the reason their car won't go. Maybe if they redefine some terms, it'll turn out the car does indeed go, we just weren't looking at the wheel and what it's supposed to do with the right mindset!
Morons.

why did he not put pen to papyrus, all the wise sayings that are attributed to him by others.?.
he is supposed to be the greater moses , at least moses is credited with writing the first five books of the bible , admittedlly some centuries later .
jesus never wrote anything at all .. if jesus is the greater moses ,what writings has he done ?...zilch.
It's really hard to put one's self in God's shoes.
Honestly, I don't really care about god's shoe size.
Lets get this thread back on topic, which was: the figure Jesus was not a competent teacher, as he neglected the use of one of the greatest teaching aids - the writen form. (Likewise none of his supposed apostles were very bright either, as none of them wrote any of it down as he spoke.. the stories weren't written until decades after his supposed death.)

That's not an argument because you can't prove God doesn't exist.
I don't even get the argument you propose here - So.. if I can't prove god doesn't exist... that somehow equates to writing being evil and less important than the theoretical "glory" god. Wait.. what?
If I can't prove Muhammad isn't the great holy prophet, does that mean mathmatics are evil?
I need a chart. (Oh shit.. maybe the evilness of charts are determined by the existance or non-existance of the god Shiva!)
I can prove that writing does exist - you're reading my writings right now - which is more than you can prove about your "glorious god" and all his maybe/maybe-not benefits to measuring glory on the unified scale of glory.
If you believe that only one god exists, and that all the thousands of other gods don't exist, then you are already 99.9% athiest. You just haven't gotten over that last 0.1% yet.

Not true, writing is a petty technology compared to the glory of God.
Writing vs the "Glory of god".
Ooooh.. glory.
Yay. That is some real-world s*** right there.
I'll take... .... reading and writing, thank you very much.
Please prevent any of your offspring from being educated in the subject of reading and writing (much like a JW ha ha) and feel free to burn the 'evil writings' that is your holy book.

imagine that it was possible to precisely measure the amount of suffering in the world at any given moment - a cosmic "pain meter".
decide for yourself what the unit of measurement would be.. we can only imagine a fraction of the combined suffering that is being felt right now.
physical pain, emotional despair, grief, desperation, loss, terror and hopelessness.. of course if there is an omniscient god then he knows to the last iota what that theoretical meter would read right now.. the bible contains a number of answers to the question of suffering - ever since the babylonian exile one popular answer has been to blame his nemesis the devil, "we know that we are children of god, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
And on the other side - how many people in a "Jesus loves me" circle-jerk does it take to negate the suffering of a single person?

i'm a nature photographer and like most always seeking better, longer glass.. i'm most attracted to the 600mm f4 is canon lens though some have suggested dropping down to a 500mm due to the weight issue.
both these lenses are heavy and i can't see myself lugging either one long distances without my modified baby stroller.. any experiences with either lens?
what tripod head are you using?.
Shamus: Looks like a good head.
One of my favorite heads is on my monopod - a manfrotto ball head... looks similar, if a bit less precise - but for a monopod it's good - very fast to adjust and extremely versitle. The head I use on my big tripod is an older manfrotto fluid head I inherited from an old job that is rediculously heavy, but great for video tasks (which I tend to do more of nowdays.. I participate in a local indy film group. Shooting video through a DSLR with a good lens results in some very nice video.)

I found using a 50mm lens (f1.4) a great little lens. It's light, cheap, and the shots are brutally clear. Try putting that one in your arsenal. Well worth the money and a really fun lens to play with. :D
Absolutely - I'm shooting with a T2x Rebel myself, so I may go 35mm to accomodate the smaller sensor.. unless someone convinces me the 50mm is better.. But I'd love to have a good prime in my kit.
I'm also looking at that new canon macro lens. As much as I hate bugs.. I just love photographing them.
One thing I'd suggest to any budding photographer: shooting in RAW format and Photoshop Lightroom should be learned before purchasing any additional lenses. I think you get more for your money learning the basics of developing digital photos than that any L-series lens can gain.
