I researched this and have found no "official" rule against beards in the publications. Sometimes, though, beards would be spoken of in a negative fashion, such as commenting about their association with youth rebellion movements, workplace safety, and corporate appearance standards.

The no beard or facial hair rule
by Soldier77 inokay, something that has always been a side point but still a rather ridiculous rule is that brothers cannot "serve" if they have a beard/goatee/anything more than just a moustache.
at least in the states, i've heard of some congregations in some countries allow this, but they are the exception?
your experience?.

Just wanted to add that "You're the Best Around" is a really great song and has a place of honour in my workout mix. Perhaps second only in greatness to "You've Got the Touch", from the Transformers animated movie.

JWs District Convention 2010 Drawn Closer to Jehovah. My reflections
by onemore inseptember will mark my first year out of the watch towers darkness (pun intended).
i embarked on my full blown search for truth about the truth in april 2009, and by september of that same year i was convinced the organization was no different than any other religion; but i was wrong again.
because if there were like any other christian denomination, such as the baptists, methodists, presbyterians, lutherans, etc...it would have been a lot easier to endure sitting in their meetings, listening to their rhetoric, and engaging in some of their activities.

LOL - It seems I pegged the tone of this drama beforehand, that they would be continuing with the anachorisms and the reimagining the 1st century congregation to mirror the modern day organization of Jehovah's Witnesses.

DVD "JW's Faith In Action, part 1 Out of Darkness" Omits! Omits! Omits!
by Wasanelder Once ini've been watching the new dvd and it is a bull fest about russell.
i haven't even gotten half way and they already excluded one very important bit of information.
you'll recall that russell "lost" his faith and "turning away from church creeds and searching for truth, russell examined some leading oriental religions, only to find these unsatisfying".

Two Governing body members who died since May
by EndofMysteries ini expect two things to happen soon, one for sure...... .
1. loads of new light, the many changes that are going to happen are evidence of new light, which is done when other gb members taking over lead use their own ideas, but it's really new light.. 2. if things get out of control with this new generation thing, the two who passed away will prob be the scrape goats for that false understanding, and no need to get rid of the apostacy since jah made sure it was taken care of.
(like ray franz for 1975, my whole family believes all those dfed were apostates who put that in the wt) funny how it was given in talks 4-5 years before ray franz was ever added to the gb ;).

The new Generation teaching was designed to legitimize the leadership of the GB 2.0, as such it serves a purpose and it will not be so soon discarded. Any other "new light" will be similarly self-serving. I fully expect the GB 2.0 will receive more "face time" among JW's world-wide, pushing for the level of prominence as leaders not seen since the early presidents Russell - Rutherford - Knorr.

The Wedding Talk-A Humiliation to Women
by WalkTall init is so strange how you look at things so differently when your eyes are open.
i recently went to a witness wedding and listening to the talk with the constant emphasis on the bride having a 'head' and being submissive to her head was painful to listen to.
and how the bride has to say 'deeply respect' while the groom does not, is the epitome of misogyny.

My dad once gave a wedding talk and accidently referred to the bride as a heffer instead of a helper. It was quite memorable.

I just don't get why they are so heavily promoting one of the most insane teachings they have come up with in recent years. The pattern before this was to quietly introduce new teachings, not shine a spotlight on them. The past two generation teachings were a bit of stretch but still servicable this one defies all logic and reason.

Who calls the shots in the Watchtower?
by dgp inlet's talk about power in the wt.
we know that the watchtower started as an all-american thing (or nearly all-american thing) but it isn't that anymore.
now the non-american brothers and sisters are the majority, and, unless i'm wrong, much of the growth is taking place in countries like mexico, brazil and others.

The Joseph analogy simply doesn't fly and reveals just how desperate the GB is trying to substantiate this new teaching with Biblical support.
This again proves that they are only envisioning two overlapping groups comprising "the generation" and not multiple overlaps as had been speculated originally.

So, Who Really DOES Write the WT? ( A LONG But Worthy Post)
by AGuest in" 1 john 2:26-28. .
"when the time comes to clarify a spiritual matter in our day, holy spirit helps responsible representatives of "the faithful and discreet slave" at world headquarters to discern deep truths that were not previously understood.
nor does it say, "helps the governing body.

My second question is: although the GB claims authority over the entire organization, what exactly is their legal authority? If one of the corporation presidents and board of directors decides to blaze their own path one day, does the GB have any legal recourse? - Mad Sweeny
I'm not sure the GB has any legal authority. I believe that the share holders would have the authority to depose any wayward member of the board. The share holders are hand selected by the Society. Any coup would have to be a group effort and not from any rogue individual.
