Do Movie Ratings Make Any Sense to You?
by TD inmy wife and i have a "movie night" once a week where we watch two movies.
she picks one and i pick one.
here's the two movies we watched tonight and their ratings.. .

There are also studio concerns --
G ratings are often not welcome by a studio unless the movie has strong family marketing appeal.
Because teenagers are big movie consumers, the R rating too fell out of favor and PG-13 was pushed.
In the US violence is more welcome than sex, so movies with violence are rated lower than movies with depictions of sex. You even see this with profanity.
"I'm going to f**k you up with this desk!" - PG-13
"I'm going to f**k you on this desk?" - R

Ratings actually were less strict -- Here are a few examples:
Planet of the Apes Rated G - Male backside nudity, violence, and mild profanity
Barbarella, Airplane, Sixteen Candles - Rated PG - Naked breasts

@candlelight
Thank you. I stole borrowed the creek bit from your life story.
@Found Sheep
Top ten go on to the next round. So, I don't need first place. I'll settle for comfortably in the top ten. Thanks again.

To garyneal and Others, Evidence that the anointed remnants represented by the GB were selected in 1919.
by mankkeli in1st evidence: the release of loyal jews from exile, made possible by the fall of babylon, foreshadowed the release in 1919 of anointed christians from spiritual exile.
2nd evidence: that year marked the beginning of the period when the anointed remnants were released from a form of spiritual captivity to the ideas and practices of false religion.
although having rejected such false teachings as the trinity and the immortal soul, they were still tainted by babylonish practices.

Here is my question --
Even the Society will admit that they weren't exactly as nuetral toward World War I as they should have been. This is part of the reason they claim that the directors of the Society were sent into "captivity" to be refined.
While all of this was going on there was a splinter Bible Student group that strongly opposed the leadership's war involvement. They were call the Standfasters.
Here is how Karl Klien (former GB member) describes it:
"World War I was raging, and even though the most prominent brothers had been unjustly imprisoned over the war issue, the need for Christian neutrality was not fully appreciated by those taking the lead. A few who saw the issue clearly took offense and separated themselves from the Bible Students, calling themselves Standfasters. They warned me that if I stayed with the Bible Students I would lose out on being of the 'little flock' of Jesus' anointed followers." (Oct 1, 1984 WT)
So here is my question -- If Jesus (having just come to power) was upset with the Society for their involvement in war, so much that he put them in prison to be refined, why didn't he go with the breakaway group that was actually correct in their teachings and practices?

Does college count as a hobby?
As a JW I enjoyed screwing around with music, but it was difficult to find places to play out that weren't bars or clubs. I finally found a venue which was an art gallery/coffee shop. However on the night of our performance I was horrified to see nudes on the wall. The band broke up for religious differences (i.e. I got df'd). I haven't done much with it since then.
Today I do enjoy writing, which is something that I could probably never get away with as a JW. In fact keeping a blog got me in a little trouble and was used against me when I got df'd. I meet with a writer's group throughout the year and enjoy going to open mics. I love having the freedom to write about whatever I want without having to edit it. Not just using words like "damn" or "shit", but not filtering concepts and asking tough questions.
If you are interested, I posted a chapter of a novel I'll be releasing soon -->

@steve2 Thank you for your vote. No really -- I'm fully aware of your points. I usually write much, much different stuff that asks big questions and delves into some pretty heavy (even dark) territory. I originally envisioned this as a send-up on those formulaic Nicholas Spark's type stories, but I do think over the course pf the novel it evolves into something more, hopefully, moving beyond a JW overlay on a romance. At least that is the intent, whether or not I succeeded is another matter.
@others
Thank you for your votes! My intention is to publish this online starting sometime in early 2012. I'll probably do a chapter a week and then a free e-book at the end. I'll be sure to keep JWD updated on where/when you can read more.

@steve2
I'm not familiar with Mills & Boon, but it probably isn't that far off based on your description. I've always joked to my friends about doing a JW romance. (It was going to be called Servant to Love. LOL) Since I had such a heavy work/school load this year I decided go ahead and write it. I enjoy it -- it is simple and fun, though probably not for everyone's tastes. Thank you for your input!

Thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, the whole thing isn't available just yet. I'm hoping to have it available early in 2012. Stay tuned!
