Here is a newer book that just came out that focuses on the year 381 and the historical development of the Trinity doctrine, particularly as it was shaped and supported by the weight of the Roman empire.

It is interesting the character of some of the misty-eyed new songs that speak of growing old, dying, or appreciating the patience of God in delaying the end. A bit difference than the older tunes that had the theocratic nation marching triumphant into the new system.
I also have a brief research question --
Can anyone recall which songs (if any) in the current (brown) song book mention the name of Jesus? The songs about Christ that I can recall, such as "Hail Jehovah's First Born", don't speak of the name of Jesus. Would be curious if the new book continues the trend of eliminating the name of Christ.
EDIT: In answer to my above question --
Here are some songs that mention the name Jesus in the old book, 134, 101, 139, 122, 115, 106, 22, 168, 147, 123. Without lookin at potential lyric changes the new book only retains 123 - "Move Ahead", which mentions Jesus in the verse, " There is a place in the service for all;
It is the work Jesus did, you'll recall."EDIT: In answer to my above answer :-)
Looks like my list above isn't complete. :-)

Growing up I was the son of the PO and our family was liked and treated pretty well. Later my dad was reproved so we lost quite a bit of status. Later as an adult I was treated well enough, though I didn't have a position in the congregation so I wasn't quite on the a-list and very involved socially. When I started to partake they started treated me like crap. LOL - "crap" was the exact words that a MS, formerly a good friend, used to describe me.

Beard stories. Nothing but beards.
by Open mind ini've done a jwn search on beards and had some great reads.. i've learned the history of russell vs. rutherford and knorr and the hippies.. here's what i'd like to hear about.. either you or someone you know who grew a beard and the fallout because of it.. for me, i'd love to hear about the squeaky clean elder who decided to grow a beard and got removed because of it.. katie kitten, from england, on another thread told the story of her dad, the squeaky clean elder who grew a beard in the 70's and got away with it.. i don't think that would happen in california 2009.. anyway, what are your beard stories?.
i'm all ears.
(and my ears are freshly plucked.

I looked up beards in the CD-ROM and could find no real prohibition of them. What I did find was as quite a bit of subtle and not-so-subtle condemnation. Even the "Watching the World" would have news blurbs about corporations that banned beards for professional appearance or factory workers for safety reasons.

No beards in my midwest USA area but the black brothers got by with "soul" patches. Mustaches were not uncommon.
For a kick look at the progression of the "bible study" in the "What Does God Require Brochure?". The study loses his airbrushed on sideburns as he qualifies for field service.

Giving Arrangements Promoted by the WTS
by besty ini'm looking for scans, links or original publications or even cd-rom quotes from the articles telling people how they can donate land, wills, property etc to the wts.
was there even an entire specialised publication just on this topic?.

I remember that KM article. Even as a JW I saw the flaw in their "suggested" donation. The costs associated with those materials go to pay profit to the writer/artist, printer, distributer, and seller. As a non-profit organization that self performs all these activities the cost should be lower.
Speaking of 50 Cent, Of course this is the same organization that charged .50 for can of generic lemon-lime soda I could buy at the supermarket for .20
