I think I would rather make the mistake of giving a homeless man money for drugs/booze than to deprive a hungry man of some food. To each his own - as the saying goes.

To the Household of God, Israel, and those who go with...
by AGuest in... may you all have peace!.
there's been such a lot of "ruckus" on the board lately (well, not a lot in comparison to the entire board, but a lot for some of us - lololol!
) that i wanted to give you all something that might help you feel a little "lighter"... and remind you of who you are.

For Shelby, Tec and others who believe in Christ but not necessarily the bible...
by elderelite ini read with great interest that some believe in christ but notnecessarily the authenticity of the bible... could you please elaborate on that?
i have to admit i am very interested in where people have ended up after leaving the wt.
i am on that road and enjoy seeing where people have followed it.

Jesus is absolutely compelling. At first I just knew of him from the Bible but it wasn't until I personally started to get know him that things changed for me. Really this whole journey started for me when I wanted to learn how to love. Then it was standing up for the truth. It was in these ways that I started to come to know Jesus before he started dealing with me directly.
You say you want to believe in Christ. Maybe you just know him from the Bible. Here is the thing -- that wonderful man you read about -- he's not dead. He lives and you can know him just as you know any other person. You can talk to him and he can speak back. If you have read the Bible you have been introduced -- now seek him out and see for yourself. Take the next step. Really all those ones that went to Jesus in the Bible were not disappointed -- I doubt you will be.
The Bible is what it is -- it serves its purpose -- but it was never meant to be an endpoint. Maybe merely just a sign, directing you to the one you need to go to. If you go to men, you will be burned, you will be let down. That's just how it is -- but Jesus, nah, he is faithful and true.

No matter what i say it makes no difference so i'm not going to say anything.
Honestly, one of things I learned early on is keeping to Jesus example in keeping ones mouth shut - remaining silent when we are falsely accused. Sometimes when we are attacked and attempt to respond to defend ourselves it falls into self-justification. As it is written, "Who will accuse; who the Lord has justified?" His opinion really is the only one that matters and if you are OK in his book it doesn't matter what opposers may say. Leave it in his hand - he can defend you or have others speak up on your behalf.

Young JW's
by XPeterX infrom what i've noticed 'wordly' teens or very young adults won't follow jw's.most teens/young jw's are born in,so boasting about the theocratic youth is actually boasting about jw children lol..

The annual growth figures only capture publishers. This is important because practically all children born to JW parents will become publishers before they are teenager. Some (maybe most) will get baptized. But those that leave or are DF'd in the late teens early twenties is extreme.

How does a person move up in the WTS?
by Libelle ini guess i should have said, "how does a man move up" since they're a male-only ruling class.... what does it take to become an elder, and so on up?
i don't really think the mr. is in the running for any special titles, but just in case in the future something along these lines happens, how does the hierarchy work?
(probably not a true consideration, being that he's married to me, but hey, i'm sure stranger things have happened).. .

1.) Be a man.
2.) Pioneer.
If you are not a pioneer the highest level you can reasonably hope to attain is elder.

While his website is an easy stepping stone for those coming out of the WT, fortunately I would say that e-Watchman doesn't have a very good track record at retaining followers. His hyprocisy is readily apparent. He does a pretty good job of exposing the fallacies of Watchtower prophecy regarding 1914, etc. The problem for him is, without the WT prophetic framework he has no real answer as to exactly how Jehovah's Witnesses are God's modern day organization. Further he encourages his followers to remain in the Organization, which requires that they join him in his hyprocisy by publically teaching about things (1914) that they know to be false. Consider that he himself claims to be "anointed", of the Body of Christ, and yet attends the JW memorial and rejects the emblems. This truly is the case of the blind leading to blind.
@Essan - that really was a good illustration.

This thread is interesting if not a bit disheartening.
What is interesting to me is that I have seen the same attitudes displayed on "christian" forums as on this one where many claim to be atheist/agnostic. The typical response is:
1.) Angry attacks or mocking, which is often (and strangely) out of character for those that are engaging in them.
2.) Accusations that the person is attempting to say they are better, superior, special. This comes, even if the person is claiming that everyone has the opportunity to experience such.
3.) Accusations that the person is mentally ill; which is often couched in a faux concern for the person's general well-being.It is disheartening to see such an attack because a person makes the simple claim that they heard the voice of the Lord which told them to pursue love and kindness. If only we all opened our ears to such reminders the world would be much more bearable place. For those who have attacked and ridicule I would ask yourself, what it is about faith that makes you behave in such an ugly manner, when you normally are such lovely individuals.

Did the WT return to "old light" regarding the "overlapping" concept? Wt 9-1-52
by AndersonsInfo inrecently, i was sent the following information and asked--was i aware of the 1952 overlapping concept regarding the "generation" teaching?
did the watch tower return to "old light" ?
see below link from a jw website and article from watchtower, sept. 1, 1952. what do you think?http://jehovahswitnessnews.wordpress.com/2010/08/27/the-overlap-jehovahs-witness-consistency/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=feed%3a+jehovahswitnessnews+%28jehovah%27s+witness+news%29.

I don't know if the WT was teaching a 33 year generation or a 40 year generation at this time. Either way this may been simply a way to prop up the failed (or failing) teaching in 1952 until they decided to go a different direction. (Teenagers -> children -> babies)
As for the new teaching, it seems that the WT writers are simply drawing from the well of old teachings with a fresh new twist. This is similar to how the previous generation teaching pulled from the 1920's, dusted off, and upgraded.
I don't see though what the justification is to limit this to two overlaps other than to draw up end-time nearness hysteria until the teaching once again needs to be expanded upon.

Bitterness, anger, grief, and self-loathing are very big things and yet they fit comfortably within a person.

Jesus said directly to the apostles, "this good news". What good news? It was the same good news that Jesus preached and the same one that he had previously sent them out to preach.
I like this -->
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord
