"REVELATION BOOK" Which Interpretations Are The Most Wacky?
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inyou studied the revelation book, two, three or four times?
what is the worst interpretation of a chapter and verse, of this book?.
the cleaning of the society in 1917-1919 by jesus christ?

The book identifies Abbadon, the destroyer that comes forth from the abyss with a locust swarm, as being Jesus Christ and the annointed. Yes, Jesus and the annointed are a demonic horde swarming forth from hell.

The Tower of Babel - Languages: Isn't this story unhinged?
by james_woods inbesides the obvious fact that it is historically ridiculous - can anybody make any sense out of this story?.
god was somehow afraid that man was developing too much technology?
just because they were building a tower?.

The story is about the development of modern human consciousness and language. It also depicts the post-deluge drive to build pyramids which is seen throughout many ancient cultures all over the earth. It is a true story if not the details.

Universal Sovereignty Doctrine, re-examined.
by Knowsnothing inhey all.
what do you guys think about the issue of universal sovereignty?
that was one of the doctrines i thought i would never doubt in, but looking into it more, there are a lot of holes in it.

The Universal Sovereignty doctrine is a throwback to Rutherford, who as a lawyer envisioned the overeaching theme of the Bible as a universal court case between Jehovah and Satan.

Do Children Who Get Baptized Have Any Legal Leeway To Leave The Religion When They Are Older Without Shunning?
by minimus inafter reading the threads on watchtower encouraging 10 year olds to take the baptismal plunge, i wonder if they have an actual legal right to terminate their agreements without any penalty enforced by the organization.. i think those of us who were "too young" to enter into any contract could be absolved of any agreements, even religious vows, because we were still obviously too young to understand all the "fine print" before signing.. what do you think??
?.

The Watchtower position is that even if a JW youth entered into a contract with the religion prior to being of legal age that their continued association thereafter give evidence of their agreement to it. So by continuing to identify yourself as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and participating in congregation activities as one you validate your baptism contract.

2005 - The year the Society began its decline (without anyone noticing)!
by cedars ini've just finished an article for randy over on freeminds.org, which i've submitted to him for review.
hopefully it should be online soon, so please keep checking!.
the article discusses the fact that the watch tower society is already in decline, and suggests the year 2005 as the turning point.

There are various threads of decay in the organization tracking over decades.
As Cedars points out the Watchtower has long been a religious publishing enterprise. The first blow came with the switch to the donation arrangement. The activity of selling literature for an inflated "printing cost" financed the explosive growth of the Society, especially under Knorr. (The same way you had to pay 50 cents for generic cola at a Convention you could buy retail for 20 cents.) The second blow came with the rise of Internet and the demise of commercial publishing. The cutting back in printing and moving over to the Internet (albeit reluctantly) simply follows a transition that many commercial publishing outfits are undergoing at present. The Awake! is getting cut in and half and so is our local newspaper -- this comes as no surprise. Printing is no longer commercially viable -- it is nearly as outmoded as door-to-door sales.
Can the religion survive without the publishing house? Certainly but the transition will take time.
The real place to look to see the decay is the Witness youth. These are the ones that sustain "growth" in developed lands by virtue of the fact that nearly every child born in a Witness household will become a "publisher" and get added to the ranks. However, it doesn't mean that they will "make the truth their own" and remain. In fact a recent study showed that the Witnesses had very poor member retention. Witness kids that don't take the religion to heart or remain in it will not be around to sire the next generation. The religion will wither. You can't really look to statistics to see this. The affect is more observed anecdotally. In your local congregation, how many Witness children are getting reproved or disfellowshipped? Are those who are still in making plans to become full-time pioneers or reaching out for bethel service? Are the young men qualifiying to serve as ministerial servants? Compared to generations past do they seem as "zealous for fine works"?

Interesting news release on the long term effects of being "born again" on the human brain...

I think the same could be said for those turn off the "spiritual" portion of the brain to rely exclusively on logic and rational.

Some ideas:
The Organization is moving to seperate the corporate Watchtower from the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses?
Historically the District Convention has been arranged by the Watchtower. Donations received were made out to "Watchtower". (Did they ever shift conventions to the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses corp?)
Conventions are not as big of money makers for the Watchtower compared to Circuit Assemblies?
As I recall before the Assembly it is estimated what the expenses will be for the assembly weekend based on the number of publishers that will be attending. During the assembly it will be announced that there is a deficit in meeting these "expenses". This is a subtle arm twisting for JW's in attendence to donate again or up their end of the day donation. Generally this will leave a surplus at the end of Sunday, which the circuit elders will be forced to donate to the Watchtower world wide work.
A thought:
Changes in recent years made the organization more blasaise. In the past the District Convention was a huge special event. I know that for some JW's it was their family's only vacation. I think they'll lose something if they just turn District Conventions into smaller assemblies.

It makes no sense whatsoever that a" CREATOR" would only communicate with a minority of the population then put the onus on them to convey this life saving message to the WHOLE wide world
by smiddy ini now find it idiotic that i could ever beleive the bible to be the inspired word of god.....,throughout the bible "god"has only dealt with a few of his favoured spokespersons to deliver his messages to a minority populace.individuals at first,..... then, patriarchs, nomads,a small nation, ignoring all other nations that had sprung up.......,abandoning his chosen nation, sending his "son"to a small nation, only giving them his pearls of wisdom, much of what was not even recorded for prosperity and remember he never wrote a word,it was left up to other imperfect humans to record what he was supposed to have said, just a smidgen......,again ignoring the bulk of humankind keeping them in ignorance of his plan for universal salvation, leaving it all up to imperfect humans to spread this message of salvation, whom he has already condemned for their sinfullness and disobedience.i just find it so unbeleivable.
in the 6000 years of recorded history only a fraction of the earths population, maybe less than a third have ever heard of the god of the bible, or his so called plan to redeem humankind ,thats millions and millions of people.
( india,arabic,afghanistan,pakistan etc.etc.).

" Just having the central theme of blood sacrifice is a basic pre-christian makes it no different than other beliefs."
Yet with Christianity we have the end of blood sacrifice, which is fairly significant. Jesus' symbolic death was giving the Jews a reason not to slit the throats of animals anymore, just as the animal sacrifices gave them a reason not to slit the throats of their children. (Though that still went on to a degree unfortunately.) Symbolically the death of Jesus can be seen as the ultimate sacrifice to end all sacrifice. Not that God needed it, but in order to the satisfy the people's own superstitious guilt. That's progress. Just as moving to a faith based on love is progress from a moral law code which is progress from a lawless society.
