from my understanding (listened to the local news) they were fined because the amount of people attending these "so called Bible studies" was high 20 people in some instances, which while parked in the neighborhood impinged upon space available for local residents. Zoning laws may have also been a factor. The lone factor was not a bible study it was amount of people who were attedning there. Wife and Husband both had differng bible studies on different days (i suppose).

In Orange County, California, it is illegal to hold a religious meeting in your home.
by What-A-Coincidence inhttp://www.infowars.com/california-city-closes-down-bible-study-in-private-home/.
in orange county, california, it is illegal to hold a religious meeting in your home.. this is what chuck and stephanie fromm, of san juan capistrano, discovered when they were fined $300 earlier this month for holding a bible study class on their property.. officialdom in the county said the couple were singled out because it is considered illegal to hold a regular gathering of more than three people on private property.
officials stated that the fromms require a license to hold meetings in their home.. san juan capistrano authorities claim home bible study is not allowed because it is a church, and churches require a conditional use permit (cup) in residential areas.. the fromms face additional fines of $500 per meeting for any further religious gatherings in their home, according to the pacific justice institute.. the citys action is a brazen violation of the first amendment, which guarantees free worship without government intervention.. pji and the fromms plan to appeal a decision made by the city to uphold the fine and restriction to the california superior court in orange county, according to kcoy 12 news, a fox affiliate.. ironically, the city of san juan capistrano was founded as a mission in the late 1700s by catholic priest junipero serra.

JW Funerals
by outsmartthesystem inthis is kinda out of the blue....but was brought on by the sad announcement from jwfacts of the passing of his father.
thankfully, that funeral talk was evidently a respectable one......but i have now been to two jw funerals myself in the past 2 years.
i have been extremely dismayed by the talk given in both of them.

when my wife died, romans 12:15 didn't seem to apply, as I am sure those of you who have lost a loved one know.

Jehovah DOES hear and answer our prayers...........
by punkofnice in.........the same way pink spotted unicorns do skip in my garden!.
now i'm not saying a god does or doesn't exist but the brand name god of the watchtower certainly doesn't exist.
he is the magic imaginary friend in the sky that jws talk to telepathically.. .

Like most all of you, I have never had a prayer answered, in fact this past weekend was talking with a Baptist and he was talking about prayer being a communication with God. I told him communication is at a minimum a two way thing, not one person mumbling to themselves and the conversation/prayer hardly constitutes two way communication. It takes both parties to talk. When one side doesn't one has to realize they are only talking to themselves.
Asking God through Jesus to help spouse, children, and or friends hasn't helped anyone unless one wants to read the mythology of the old testament. If God really gives a damn about anyone down here then he should make his presence known. Being silent doesn't help, and then one finds that they themselves or family and friends helped them. Not the receipient of the vocalized chanting/prayer. They/he/she sits on high and ignores.

WBTS and 9/11
by african GB Member ini was'nt that well informed at the time of the event, what i'd like to know is how the org responded to the tragedy.they must have had a filled day.
it would also be interesting to see the statistics in the 2002 yearbook.
perhaps some people believed jw's at the time due to fear and frustration, or maybe even some disillusioned jw/apostates, df'd, da'd,...went to kh immidiately afterwards..

The WTBTS idea of love, is love only for the GB, first of all, God second, Jesus somewhere at the end of the list just above the R&F. I never heard a darned word of how if any help they provided the hundres of people who passed by the HQ. Haven't ever heard anything, and those stories in the Awame are probably BS made to make WTBTS look good, but it just goes to show they didn't take in the 100's of others who my or may not have needed a place to rest, eat, even if for just an hour or so. Nope never heard one word about how they helped them.

I always told my children wait until your 30 to make any decisions, Jesus did so follow his example, wait until you are 30 and then make any decision you think you need to.

"Do not go beyond the things written"
by hotspur inhow many times did you hear that?
it wasn't until i read with disbelief no room for george's pitiful statement about being proud to be a jw did i start to think of a simple of way of discrediting the jws... it needed a simple scriptural phrase that causes them to shoot their own foot!.
so - how many different ways can you think of where jws have "gone beyond the things written"?.

What's behind the JW "stare"
by InterestedOne inin my interactions with jw males guarding the kh entrance or with the various males my study conductor would bring to our study (one i later found out was considered a "heavy," meaning he was supposedly really good at answering tough questions), i notice they stare intensely at me and i start fumbling my words.
in one case, i went to a different kh where no one knew me and got the same stare at the door.
is this stare deliberate, and if so, what is behind it?
