you mean real true friends you could completely be yourself with? hmm... two: a girl and a guy. the guy's mom was really domineering, but thankfully he didn't get all wimpy. he always rebelled behind her back. and my best friend she got DF'd and kicked out of her house when she was only 14. i called everybody else "sister" and "brother" but them, and they were the only ones i was really close to. i wonder if the guy is still in. i don't think the girl is, she was too much of a free spirit to be captive for long...

How many "real friends" did you have in your congregation?
by JH inmost congregations have about 80 to 120 people.
out of that, how many could you consider being a "real friends"?
personally, not one of them was a "real friend".

The John Denver Issue, vote now.
by londoner inthis is for those of you who sent me a private message saying you dont believe me, your letting your old jw traits come out, you know, not believing things when the facts stare you in the face unless it comes from the org.
maybee you should go back and re join them.. to confirm what happened .
i was at a john denver concert in the uk many years ago, he asked all catholics to stand up, after he got them seated he did the same with church of england, then the same with a couple of other religions, after he asked all jw's to stand up he announced that the concert would not go on untill they had all left and he then left the stage.

'tis ok.
i abhor bigotry of any kind, and if i thought john denver was being a bigot, i would have had trouble sympathizing with him...

Are ex-jw's or "apostates" addicted to jw-bashing?
by booker-t inthis might seem like a funny question to ask but my mom told me that "apostates" are addicted to jw-bashing and cannot let it go and have a life.
i asked her what she meant by this statement and she told me that all ex-jw's talk about is the wts and jw's and negative things about the jw's.
she said that we get up thinking about jw-bashing and go to sleep thinking about jw-bashing just like a drug addict.

I asked her what she meant by this statement and she told me that all ex-jw's talk about is the WTS and JW's and negative things about the JW's. She said that we get up thinking about jw-bashing and go to sleep thinking about jw-bashing just like a drug addict. She even mad a bet with me that I could not go one week without jw-bashing because she feels that I am addicted to jw-bashing. I must admit I have never thought of it as an addiction. Do you think that ex-jw's are addicted to jw-bashing and can we ever get over it and move on with our lives and not bash the WTS? Do you think that you can go a week without jw-bashing?
well, first of all, how does she know? i mean, does she have all apostates' houses under surveilance? an addiction is something you think about 24/7... all you think about is your next fix. exes talking candidly about their shared experience isn't an addiction. honestly the only time i think about jw's is when i'm on this board. and if i want to expose them and be frank about how i feel about them, i do because i can . because now i have a voice. p.s. i read plenty of active jw sites and there's a whole lotta ex jw-, apostate- and worldy people-bashing going around, believe me.

Words you used instead of cussing
by JH inwitnesses must always have a clean and pure language to honor god, and must never cuss.
now imagine an elder accidentally hitting his finger with a hammer...
what words may he exclaim in this moment of pain?

hmm, how about sumthin Shakespearean, like "suffering cats!" or... "god's teeth!"...
we used to use substitues, like "fudgecake" for "f--k" and "dang" for "damn", and "H-E-double hockey sticks" for "Hell"... (i'm so glad i can swear with impunity now, if i want...)

I would not mwant to reduce the impact of his bigotry by stating that, if the tables were turned, the targets of his bigotry (the JWs) would more than likely treat others with similar contempt. A lame justification indeed.
huh? i wasn't talking about bigotry, i was talking about shunning. i don't think john denver was being a bigot... if you disagree with my comment, you can do so, but you don't have to call it "lame".

Birthdays and Embalming...
by undercover innever thought you'd see those two things in one thread did you?
well, bear with me and see how i make the connection:.
jws don't celebrate birthdays for the following reasons:.

Embalming was practiced by non-worshippers of Jehovah and was related to false religious practices. However, since there were no specific instructions on the subject then scripturally there is no need for concern if family members desire it to take place. So embalming is okay by God and allowed by JWs.
wow, you raised an excellent question, and some great points also. i have never thought about how jw's feel about embalming... it seems to me they would shun a practice that ancient Egyptians did...they believed in the afterlife and practiced embalming to "prepare and preseve the body for its journey to the afterlife"
The ancient Egyptians believed that after the end of their life on earth that there lay before them a journey to an afterlife. In order to arrive safely in the afterlife the body of the deceased had to be in a fit condition to house the soul of the person: to Egyptians the soul was not detachable from the body as is perceived by many modern religions. In order to enable this journey the Egyptians had to ensure that the bodies of the dead were treated with the utmost respect and kept as close to the original as possible.
so why shun certain practices (birthdays, yoga, christmas) but not this one, which clearly has "false" religious roots and overtones, and even some components that are considered "occult" in nature?
so, how do they feel about cremation, i wonder...
*tsk, tangled webs...

Keeping the congregation clean?
by heatherg ini just had an interesting experience today.
i ran into an old ex-friend that had just been released from prison.
he was sentenced for selling pot to the highschool girls he coached for soccer and for sleeping with underage girls.
