my question to christians who doubt the devils existence: why would jesus bother casting out demons if they dont exist?.

why would paul say in romans 8:37-39 "...in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

I'm a UU, which is considered Christian Lite or barely Christian or not Christian at all by Evangelicals because it's basically secular humanism with a nod to spirituality of all sorts thrown in.

I consider astrology and dancing naked to the Green Lord to be a legitimate as Catholocism or the Baptists, is what that means. People getting all wacked out with the universe is fine with me...I'm not against the supernatural, wherever you want to find it.

I can't quite shut the door on the supernatural..I keep thinking people must have this need for believing in it for a reason, and it seems to fulfill some psychological needs for some people in a legitimate way.

Is the Jehovahs Witnesses organization really a cult?

im sure the question has been brought up before on this board and i imagine that for many of us the answer is patent.

however, i recently saw a documentary on pbs regarding the mormons and it stated categorically that the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is not a cult.

given that it has its own set of strangeness and history of revision as has the wtbts, could it also (the jw) be considered a main stream, although minor religion?.

Witnesses would deny that they are worshipping the Faithful and Discreet Slave, because that cannot be made obvious to them. They "obey" the Faithful and Discreet slave or are "loyal" to the FDS.

One of the definitions of worship is, however, excessive devotion (attachment or loyalty born of strong emotion) or admiration for an object or person or entity. The word "worship" has the same roots as "worthy" in English, and implies that what is worshipped is worthy of it when applied to a deity. If what is worshipped isn't worthy or fallible or not deserving of loyalty, it's false devotion or worship.

Think that applies? I do.

my mother, like all the dubs, excels at dropping casual sentences here and there designed to suck me back into the borg.... her latest subtle (not) attempt to use my father's death as the drawing card was to send an sms saying only: "death is so unnatural".. of course i remember all those public talks, so i know exactly where she's coming from: we were made to live forever so no wonder death is so painful for us to deal with.. but honestly, what planet are they on????

on the planet earth death is the most natural thing ever!

Without death, we and all the other living things on it would have used up this planet's resources eons ago. Something to think about. *G*

Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses is a Negative, Depressing Thing To Do, but....

over the years since i left jehovahs witnesses, one of the more fascinating things to observe, and really to me, the most important, is what to do after you leave.. to be sure, no one leaves because of a positive experience.

and therein lies the issues with leaving.

basically, people leave in three general ways: 1. they, like myself, resign or leave due to a disagreement.

Another Witness asked me once, "What would you do if you weren't a Witness?"

The answer is simple....what the other 99% of the human race does. For better or worse...but most importantly, that's MY choice because it's my life.

I would chose wisely, I would hope, like so many others do. Honestly, most people aren't out there trying to kill themselves or ruin their lives.

So many things to do...number one is to go back to college. A mindmelda is a terrible thing to waste.

I might risk one, but I'm a dare devil when it comes to food.

I once ate a bite of an short tailed macaque's brain, a delicacy in the Philippines. Not bad, kind of gamey though. Then I had this weird urge to stick my finger in my butt.

i did this today.

last night, the pretty little weather girl stated there would "be heavy rain marked by occasional thunderstorms.

" i thought to myself, great, hopefully its so bad when i awaken, anybody originally planning on going out, will just stay home.

OOooh, Michaels! Much better than the meetings any day! Craft-o-holic here.

I also highly recommend the Dollar Tree for avoiding meetings. Or just about anything, actually.

Many times. It's called "common sense kicking in".

I have to count the times I was sent home from FS too, for not having made "prior arrangements" a big thing at the congo I went to. If you didn't do that, you didn't get to go out in FS.

i really needed to find a place to write this as i don't believe i can talk with anyone else about my account, perhaps it is similar to a lot of yours.. last night for whatever reason i said i would go online and look up information on jws.

i have been raised as a jw all my life and baptized the last few years.

i looked at www.freeminds.org and www.sixscreensofthewatchtower.com and couldn't believe how easily the whole of my lifes teachings were refuted.. i can't stop my brain from running, bs just in regards to theology alone (1914, paradise earth, celebrations etc.

LOL...studying psychology and philosophy did me in with the Witnesses too, it was the beginning of cognitive dissonance for me in a big way.

While you're at it, read a few good books on anthropology too, I recommend Jared Diamond's "The Third Chimpanzee" and "Why is Sex So Much Fun?". Also, read "The Power of Myth" by Joseph Campbell...you'll discover how much of many things people believe are founded in myth and how that fulfills many basic psychological needs.

Those will all put the last few nails in that old WTS teachings coffin for you.

I had to hurt my kids this weekend... it sucks

i have been in a world of pain this weekend.. some of you know the ongoing battle i have had with my ex wife, an uber dub hypocrite, over seeing my kids more.

3 weeks ago i managed to secure an agreement from her that provided my 13 yr old daughter friday night to sunday afternoons and for my 16 yr old son to have friday night to sat afternoon with the option to extend it to sunday if he so desires.

this is each second weekend.. first due weekend visit she rearranged the days so that she was technically pre agreement start date.

My husband's ex bashed their father to his two older kids, my step children and forbade him to see them, and violated the court orders for visitation constantly, even hiding from us and changing the childrens names. All that earned her as they grew up was their contempt.

They won't have anything to do with her that they can avoid doing now that they are adults.

Let her be the bad guy...kids are more perceptive than you may think, especially teenagers.

They can smell hypocrisy the way a hungry man can smell a pastrami sandwich from a half mile away. All that guilting will eventually just make them more and more reluctant to be around her.

Everyone is right, the best way to impress the courts is to document everything she does that violates the custody agreement.
