  Unfortunately for those that were born into this religion, there is no graceful way to exit.

  If you become baptized in this religion, and later in life choose an alternate spiritual path, you will either need to resign (disassociate) or you will be removed forcibly (disfellowshipped). Whether you willingly resign, or are removed forcibly you will be shunned.

  That means family and friends will hear an announcement at the Kingdom Hall that says, “______your name is no longer one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.” After that, your friends and family will not speak to you for fear of being forcibly removed themselves.

  The next time the Jehovah’s Witnesses come to your door, ask them about their shunning policy!

  interview in Portland Mercury re: growing up a teenage jw

  it's regarding my novel, confessions of a teenage jesus jerk, which has been getting a lot of great press and more reviews and interviews are on their way....check out the link below.. what was funny about this interview is the illustrations the interviewer chose to use in the piece.....grabbed right from the wtbts.

  i only talked to him on a phone call, but i have a feeling he's letting on a little more than i thought regarding his knowledge of jws.. i'll write more about the press, tour and fun stuff later.. -tony.

  Tony,

  I am a few pages from being done with your book.

  IT IS FANTASTIC! I could relate to so much of the story. Especially the kid discovering hip worldly stuff, the struggle to express himself and the leash of obligation to the witness lifestyle pulling him back in.

  I hope you're hitting Portland on your tour, I'd love to meet ya'!

  I'm off to pick up a Mercury.

  ex-JWs for Haiti

  a number of us ex-jws have gotten together to rally support for haiti within the ex-jw community.. as witnesses, few of us ever donated humanitarian aid.

  this wasn't because we were uncaring but because of what we were taught.

  now, in the wake of the horrific disaster in haiti, we can stand up and give to the people who need help so desperately.

  i found a dvd about evolution and great ways to teach it to children, i discovered that is promoted at uuc, it seems that the group is oriented towards acceptance and not totalitarianism.

  since i like to associate with others who think the same way i would like to know what do you think about them?.

  I've been to a few services, I agree that it was very open and welcoming.

  If you need a rigid belief system and the thought of people in a community with a variety of spiritual paths translates to "anything goes", then it would not be the place for you.

  Ultimately it wasn't the place for me. Too churchy.

  I'm Out

  wednesday night i recieved a call from both the coeb and the kingdom hall.

  i didn't answer.

  yesterday i called him back and i was informed that unless i wanted to talk to the brothers they had determined that my actions spoke for themselves and that i had by those actions disassociated myself.

  Welcome to your brand new life!

  It's a scary and awesome journey. When I DA'd it took effort to build up friends and a new life, but it was soooo worth it.

  In a single day I could be scared, delighted, relieved, and grieving.

  As a witness we are taught to ignore how we feel about our lives, and just keep pushing on. They say, just keep up with the routine and don't be selfish. Taking care of your emotional and spiritual needs on your own terms is NOT SELFISH.

  It's healthy.

  Good for you, and awesome moniker by the way. HP stories are great!

  we have 3 missionaries for sure and lots of bethelites.

  i was a permanent volunteer for a year in the branch in mexico.

  oh and we have one gb member :-).
