well the elders do not accept me.

i do not fit the mold and nor will i change too.

they asked for a book for me to see the questions answered for baptisim but they wouldn't give it to me because they have to decide if i can join???

Can they reject you based on your appearance? Yes, they can. There was a time when they were against men having beards. My father when he was in the org. was confronted by the elders several times over the fact that he had a beard. Seems insane doesnt it? To say that you are not acceptable because of the way you look and therefore cannot have a relationship with God or Christ purely because of your appearance seems to me to be prejudism of the worst sort. In so doing they are trying to decide for God on who can have a relationship with Him based purely on their shallowness of looking at purely the outside person. They make the assumption that the outside looks reflect the inside heart condition and so therefore if you do not meet their expectations on looks you are judged not worthy.

Ask yourself this - did Jesus reject people because they looked different, did he reject men because they had beards? In the WT publications he is himself shown to have a beard.... my father pointed this out to the elders but they only thought of him as showing a lack of faith in the society and its rulings and so therefore he was dubbed a troublemaker. All for having a beard that he did not want to shave off! You will find examples of this sort of thing over and over again.

When I was young and in the org. I can remember talks on the improperness of wearing denim jeans - they were seen as sexual objects and anyone wearing jeans was seen as spiritually weak. At the time even though I was impressionable by the 'truth' I saw this as extreme since I had several pairs of jeans at home and just viewed them as clothes. Can you imagine what would have happened if you wore jeans and had a beard at the same time - you'd virtually be an apostate! So I'm afraid they will judge you on looks and will judge you harshly - your'e only chance to progress within this religion is to conform completely to the regulations passed down by the 70/80 year old members of the Governing Body... They will tell you that your life depends on wearing the right clothes, having the right colour hair and having no piercings, if you want to see what they expect just look at the people shown in the pictures in the Watchtower. They want that to be you and will expect you to change the way you look to suit them. They wont expect this change all at once but over a period of months the elders will be keeping an eye on you to make sure that this takes place. Whether you go through with this or not is up to you and although I find certain aspects of the religion interesting after 25 years I no longer associate with them, and I still wear jeans... still no beard though!

Problem with culpability?

personnally, i had this big problem of culpability when my parents decided to stop to go at the meeting.

when i was going to high school, i wasn't a jw anymore but i didn't want to participate to the party and other stuffs like that because the watchtower told me that it was wrong.

after six years out of the org, i'm just starting to feel free and i realized that we can look at the personnality of someone to see if it's a good friend instead of just try to see if he obey to what the wbts told us.

I left the 'truth' at 37 years of age and I can completely identify with what you are saying. I have no friends in the world and have lost all my friends in the congregation. The only thing that prepared me for this is the fact that when I was at school I was 'billy-no-mates', nobody wanted to associate with a JW and I spent all my time being on my own. I was the centre of all the ridicule and as a teenager this was very, very hard to handle. At that time also I wasnt included in much in the congregation either or in my family because my family were not in the truth either, I was really alone.

This does live with you for a long time but fortunately now I have a caring wife and a family of my own. I find that with the experiences I had as a youngster at school I do not need a circle of friends and have adapted to a life with, or without friends. You will make some friends on this board that you will accept you for the person that you are, without the conditions that the JWs attach to friendship.

I wish you luck and I hope that the knowledge that others have gone through and are going through exactly the same thing as you will give you encouragement that you can cope.

alliwannadoislive - I thought that old bloke was a liar as well because he looked extremely poor, I'm sure if it was true he would not have lived in a council house. Had to admire his enthusiasm though! An elder and I spent nearly an hour trying to get away from him!!!

By the way, only 4 races and 1 time trial left on GranTourismo 3 so I'm getting there, nearly finished...... then I'll start it all over again.... hahahahah!

He said he created the hovermower out of dustbin lids attached to an old lawnmower. And apparently we have him to thank for polystyrene... He also caused every major incident in modern history, he had chats with world governments whenever there was a problem.

Another strange character was a person who was convinced that she would speak to her grandmother, who had died several years ago, and at night she would come out of the cupboard and talk to her... weird. I didnt get very far with either of them.. although they would have been ideal for the meetings since most of them there seem to have psychological problems!

The harvest, indeed is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master to send out workers into his harvest. Are you responding to that call? Millions around the earth are. This is borne out by the new peak of 5,413,769 Kingdom publishers who reported field service during 1996.

So there are 5,413,769 that no man is able to number?! Am I missing something?

"all things are continuing exactly the same as from creation's beginning" is the thinking attributed to those ridiculers of christ's presence.

because the sign of christ's invisible presence must be accepted on faith and faith is not a possession of all people, faithless ones are willfully blinded to the evidence that the system is nearing its hour of judgment.

in this the 2nd week of august 2001, the evidence steadily mounts that apostate ridiculers of jehovah's word are very badly mistaken and about to be spanked with a very large paddle.

You Know - Like a typical JW you look for the worst in any scenario and the worst in people. This is due to the training that the society has given you, being constantly fed with words like 'evil system of things' and 'evil apostates'. If you listen to this sort of stuff long enough you start to believe it and think like it yourself, you start to look for the worst in everything and everyone. Christ Jesus looked for the good in people but I dont think you would know where to start on that. The lack of love displayed is very evident in the congregations of JWs due to their diet of pessimism, being shown the very worst. I only realised this when I left and refound my humanity.

Your view on things is very warped but I am hoping that you will continue to post and that you will continue to talk to others in your congregation and at assemblies about these things... this may seem a strange thing to say but you know when a religion is starting to fold, schisms start to develop within it. These fractures appear due to the frustrations of some who either seek power or are frustrated at the failures of the people at the top of the organisation they are in, failures in prophecy for example. My feeling is that you are frustrated at the inadequacies of the WTS so that you are not only leaping ahead of them but also going off at a tangent from them. I hope that more JWs do this because a house divided usually falls.

Considering the society is supposed to be a house of unity, a chariot going in one direction, it is encouraging for me to see that it is not the case.... keep up the good work!

these things, however, i did not tell you at first, because i was with you.

so, the point is that jesus has not told his anointed ones certain things yet because the hour for them has not arrived.

See, Jehovah looks at the heart and knows that if you were free to do so you would commit these actions....
