i remember back when the movie came out how it was condemned by wt.
cos, dos, elders, all ranted against the movie.
other than the profanity, travolta adjusting himself in his undies, some violence, sex, and drug stuff, it was not "bad".

Leonard Smith was (I don't know if he's still alive) a very nice and educated person. He and his team contributed a lot of research but afaik all that he wrote was subject to discretionary "correction" or rewriting by "Brooklyn". He would find out (with certain frustration) what was left of his papers when the English issue was released, and that was the basis for French translation of course... In such cases the Writing dept. usually handed the original French text to the translators (especially for French quotations), and we could appreciate the difference. Raymond Franz told me he knew him quite well (as did another poster whom I miss, Hillary step) and had very open conversations with him the last time he came to France officially (in the late 70s). He apparently had figured out a lot of things but had set clear personal limits he would not overstep, as far as "loyalty" to the organisation was concerned. He was the Branch Committee member who was sent to deal with me when I candidly suggested to ask Brooklyn about what I felt was an impossible statement in a Fred Franz Watchtower article (as I have told before). — Narkissos

Some years ago during a class of the pionneer service school a circuit overseer said that Guy Pierce is an ex-mormon and a Native American. Since then I've never received evidence that it is true.
Guy Pierce gave the dedication talk for an assembly hall in France and humbly said that he could have built it! Some attendants felt a thrill as if they were listening to a genius. Apparently, he has experience in construction. For my part, I asked myself, ‘What are his qualifications to teach the Bible?’

port-au-prince (reuters) - a major earthquake hit the impoverished country of haiti on tuesday, collapsing buildings in the capital port-au-prince and burying residents under rubble, a reuters reporter in the city said.. he said he saw dozens of dead and injured people in the rubble, which blocked streets in the city.. the epicenter of the quake was located inland, only 10 miles from the capital port-au-prince and was very shallow at a depth of only 6.2 miles.. it prompted a tsunami watch for parts the caribbean, the pacific tsunami warning center said on tuesday.. "everything started shaking, people were screaming, houses started collapsing ... it's total chaos," reuters reporter joseph guyler delva said.
"i saw people under the rubble, and people killed," he added.. a local employee for the u.s. charity food for the poor reported seeing a five-storey building collapse in port-au-prince, a spokeswoman for the group, kathy skipper, told reuters.. another food for the poor employee said there were more houses destroyed than standing in delmas road, a major thoroughfare in the city.. panic-stricken residents filled the streets desperately trying to dig people from rubble or seeking missing relatives as dark fell shortly after the quake.. "people were screaming 'jesus, jesus' and running in all directions," delva said.. a major earthquake, of magnitude 7 or higher, is capable of causing widespread and heavy damage.

This is very sad. Haitian people had nothing and now they are in chaos.
According to a friend of mine Bethel didn't collapse because the building has an earthquake-resistant structure.
