Another thing I used to believe: That renewable energy sources (wind, solar, hydro) could not be counted on as providing a significant part of the worlds energy needs but we must go nuclear. I *think* this is false today (or at least I don't know it is true anymore), but at some point, I hope to revisit some of my previous sources to see what has changed.

Have you ever believed something that turned out to be wrong?
by slimboyfat inapart, of course, from the obvious example of believing the evidence-free assertion of the governing body to be god's representatives on earth.
not to side-step that issue, but i wonder if it might be interesting to relate that huge mistake to other things i've been wrong about and how they compare and contrast with the big one.
a couple of examples of things i was wrong about:.

This is awful. Being shot was too good for this bastard.
Only good thing is that this attack shows the Jihadis in the west are not organized enough to equip a lunatic like this with a carbomb or even an automatic weapon, or those who are are under to close surveillance by the British intelligence services.
I guess the next big test will be what happens when the remaining terrorists of ISIS flee the caliphate as they are better trained. hopefully they are also easier to identify.

sbf: my understanding is that peak oil was correct insofar as known reserves were concerned but new technologies such as horizontal drilling, fracking/the use of chemicals to increase yield and new reserves such as shale oil/gas made the predictions obsolete.

Peak oil, I had forgotten about that. I used to believe that 100%, it seemed very clear.
Before that, I saw a documentary on TV that argued HIV originated in Africa ca. 1950 due to improper use of monkey tissue as a growth substance in a vaccination program against Polio. I used to believe that as well.

Why are Republican's so consistantly dishonest?
by Coded Logic init hasn't gone unnoticed that the republicans who are saying, "we need to get to the bottom of the obama wiretapping" and "let's investigate this" - are the same people, when it comes to trump's russian ties, who are saying, "we shouldn't look at this at all - it's just a bunch of lies and hype.".
no evidence whatsoever for claims about obama need a congressional investigation.
but mountains of evidence about trump with more coming out everyday can be swept under the rug.

VI: Just a small aside on the story, a week ago Chinese businessmen forgave Ivanka/Kushner 400M in loans, now Ivanka handle classified information. A conspiratorial mind...

The fact of the matter is, you are allowed to criticize the right without much noise, criticize the left and everyone has a hissy fit
L-O-L
Since you literally called me a "jackass" a moment ago for not even criticizing the right, but merely pointing out inconvenient facts about Hillary, I find this a tad bit disingenuous.
Once again I will point this out: When you make the discussion about how mean the other side supposedly is, and you can't demonstrate that it is actually mean to you in a clear way, that's playing the victim.
Congratulations, you have appropriated one of the most annoying aspects of the radical left, victimhood culture.

Republicans's don't like changes so they are honest in what they are seeking.
I don't get this at all. If you don't like healthcare like Obamacare I get why it is honest to say you want to repeal it, but that is no reason to say you are going to give healthcare "for everyone" at a lower cost and not having such a plan at all.
How is that honest?
Btw. climate change is apparently one kind of change the current administration is okay with

Simon: Obama has said things too that didn't hold up; I got no problem admitting that.
The scale of lying is different, though, as is the importance of what is being lied about. I hope we can agree about that.
