How do you know the Bible is from God?

i really want to believe it, but, sometimes it is very difficult to figure out how it can be from god.

i mean, in the old testament, he seems horrible in some instances.

the adam and eve thing doesn't make to much sense to me.

That is exactly what im asking for - what would it take. I can tell you what it would take for me and evolution: A cow and a dinosauer fossil found together. Or for example that the sequences that code for different proteins in the DNA in two closely related animals was in different order, spread over different chromosomes. Or that it turned out our DNA is NOT full of junk sequences. or a lot of other stuff. I mean, that was the things i was asking for, ifthe theory of the ark is falsifiable in the scientific sence.

EAS: I dont want to bury you and I, to, would really like to know your view on leavingwt's question, since in this whole flood debate it can sometimes be hard to actually find out what both sides theories are. But i do have something else that is more personal in nature and i really think is the first question that need to be asked: if we ASSUME that the bible said nothing about ark, and it said nothing about evolution/creation. ie. we take away ALL the biblical evidence and consider ONLY the secular. would you then believe the ark to be true? evolution?

By the way - thanks for being here! It is allways interesting to have a JW point of view to stir things up once in a while.

ARGH! My girlfriend is going back to religion!

... she has joined 'church of the flying spaghetti monster' on facebook and is telling me about the correlation between global warming and pirates.

i tried to talk her out of it, but she said nobody should tell her what she can do and cannot and besides she want a piercing.

i settled for the spaghetti monster as the lesser of two evils ;-).. seriously, how much trouble would she get if the elders got wind of this?.

MOUTHY: dont worry, the COFSM is a spoof on certain creationists - during the recent trials about evolution/design in school a guy invented his own religion, and demanded it should be taught alongside intelligent design and evolution. you can read more here: http://www.venganza.org/. The post is about her beginning to think about how silly the control is beginning to seem!. About Jesus - Well, its totally up to her how she will feel about religion. I think when it has been such a big part of her for so long, she should give the bible an honest chance and read it cover to cover and perhaps study what scholars think. But i wont preasure her, she is pretty tired of all things spiritual right now.

The Ark and shells/creatures

sorry if it's been covered before..... i'm struggling with the flood.

media has reported over the years finding bits of this and that (the ark) on top of a mountain.

seashells are often found high on hills or mountains.

WANTSTOLEAVE: The 'reports' of having found noahs ark are all false, and all semi-credible creationists admit this (evne jv). The things that have been 'found' are either a) fakes or b) easily explainable geological formations which are being interpreted as noahs ark by non-experts (the link fall in the later type).

BLACKSHEEP is spot on, what is montains today was once seafloor. Its really a case of circular logic - you assume that the mauntains was created by the flood (which is impossible to, but hey, who gives a damn about plate tectonics anyway!), and then you get a 'problem' with the seashells which somehow proove the ark.

The problem with noahs ark is that there is simply no evidence for it, only a particular interpretation the bible. On the other hand, there is a mountain of evidence against noahs ark. Here is a little thing that is worth to think about: The energy released if one de-orbit 1 kg of ice at 400km height is enough to raise the temperature of 1kg. water about 1000K. De-orbiting something like an entire sea would set the atmosphere on fire and pretty much kill all life on earth. How that process should somehow deep-freeze mammoths is left as an exercise to the reader.

Why weren't the rebellious angels destroyed?

nearly every living thing is drowned to death because of the badness and general mischief going on during noah's day.

why aren't the angels who materialized bodies and fathered a race of giant, violent freaks destroyed as well?.

i know that they, presumably, left their bodies just in time to escaped the flood, but that shouldn't be enough to escape the wrath of almighty god.. it's interesting that the genesis account says very little about them.

The story of Noahs ark is full of strange stuff. The reason it all happened was because the angels got horny and desided to screw the women on earth. So the situation is like this: God is sitting on his throne and he knows the angels want to fuck around. he also knows this means he will eventually have to kill every man, woman, child and beast save those on the ark.

What the angels want to do is obviously a sin, and even though the women who are seduced by the angels may have a choice, their actions will condemn a hell of a lot of innocent.

Now, god has every oppertunity to intervene, but he choose not to. I never really found a good answer to that question that didnt make God look like a dick.
