JW Apologists please tell me where your God was when .....
by wobble induring the dark days of the second world war , the monsters that ran a concentration camp decided to hang a child.. they hung the poor little chap so that it took half an hour for him to die, all the while making the other inmates look into the face of the child.. where was your god then ?
was he not strong enough to do anything or did he just not care ?.
if the first then he is a very weak god, if the second then,.

If he came here personally to stop a murder of a child… he would in the process scorch half the earth. (And please. Don’t say prove it. I’m debating on the Christian view of God and the Bible.)
...why could he not just send an angle? or *not* scorch the earth? and are you really sure that asking for proofs are not a christian thing to do?

TJ, Agonus: I think you raise a very valid point. My toughts when i first read about the rumours of the change a couple of weeks ago was that many people here was more gullible than i thought and that kind of hopefull and naive talking would just drive away lurkers. I almost started a thread on that very subject...
Indeed, it would be interesting if a new ray franz would tell exactly what happends at the meetings in brooklyn. Its like they dont even TRY anymore.

What Haiti has meant to me
by PSacramento infirst off, to see the amazing work being done in haiti by all those recusers and doctors and volunteers and soldiers, juts makes me proud to be human and makes me wish i could do more.... the haiti situation has caused me much concern and grief, it has brought up old doubts and issues i have had for a long time with god.. this is not about eartquakes and hurricanes or any natural event that accures because it has to, it is not even about the diasters that may be part of these events.. its about the very nature of god and the crucial question of why god doesn't do something and that question leads us to one that i have thought about for a great deal of time, is god omnipotent?
is god all powerful?.
i don't think god is.. i believe in a loving and caring and compassionte father in heaven, my god is my father, a beloved and loving parent and as such, how do i reconcile god not doing something when he certianly can do it?.

This explanation also makes much more sence when you look at the amount of 'funky' stuff in the bible. God has tried to give a proper rendering of his thought and ideas (forgive, do unto others..), but various accidents made a lot of stuff from other religions creep into it (the gilgamesh epic--> the ark).

PSacramento: Indeed. 'omnipotent-loving-God' -- it seems hard to keep all 3 and stll make sence of the world.

Ideas for spinning the change in 'generation' for maximum impact?
by bohm inthe change in the definition of 'generation' is the first major doctrinal change in the time i has been involved with the jehovahs witnesses (allmost a full year!
), and i personally find it pretty exciting since many hear has talked about how the other changes (like the 95 one) caused the first weak wtf moments.. what i wonder about now is how (if?
) one should discuss this topic with active jehovahs witnesses for maximal effect - so to our resident mind-control gurus: what are your plans?.

OTWO: Thank you for your reply, i really like your rendering of "wt-matthew" - step by step the wt doctrine has been so complicated you can hardly even put it into one readable sentence!

What i wonder about now is how (if?) one should discuss this topic with active jehovahs witnesses for maximal effect - so to our resident mind-control gurus: What are your plans?
(just because its lame to ask these questions without providing ones own ideas: I think i would draw up the subject by asking a question on the old definition of generation and pretend i had not noticed the change. If i was not corrected that would mean the jehovahs witness has not noticed the change, and i would discuss the old generation definition even more, agreeing to all that was said.
If/when the new definition came up, i would act exited and curious, and assume the change must have been introduced with a lot of scholary details regarding translation details and deep biblical studies i would be exited to learn more about. When that turned out to be false, i would try to phrase the question if the change was motivated by the wrong definition being shown wrong because to much time has passed, or because of some genuine research)
Side question - I may be wrong, but to me it seems that this is the first time such an important change has been introduced in such a weak manner. The article does not even TRY to explain WHY they adopt this specific definition of generation. I must assume this lack-of-evidence is delibrate. Do you think this is a good or a bad thing?

The Probabilty of there being an Intelligent Designer
by cantleave ini have been thinking a great deal about where i stand at this moment in time in terms of a belief in a creator verses a belief in an evolutionary process.
i think the best way to describe it is an exploratory path.
i look at what is around me and i acknowledge it is remarkable.
