Brain surgery boosts spirituality (science)
by bohm in"removing part of the brain can induce inner peace, according to researchers from italy.
their study provides the strongest evidence to date that spiritual thinking arises in, or is limited by, specific brain areas.".

God and Suffering
by AK - Jeff ina few weeks back, in the midst of the haiti tragedy, much discussion took place in cyberland about the tolerance [or indeed the insistence on] suffering by a loving god.
the furor over haiti has settled a bit [as unfortunately most tragedy is wont to do far too quickly in the human mind], but this persistent matter continues to chew at my subconscience.
today i came across this:.

Perry: Faulty premise at work here. We are not God's children at birth....but children of Adam. God is under no obligation whatsoever toward Adam's children.
I have to bite: If i see a children who suffer and it is not mine, i dont need to intervene. I feel the christian love.

Whereami: Ah, I see where that foolish atheist goes wrong. Everyone knows that the ark-story begins by when the angels got horny and banged a lot of earth-women. Ofcourse it seem silly when you leave out that important, clarifying, detail!.

Daniel: Jehovah thinks your attitude sucks .
Personally, i think it sounds a bit fishy that 18 doctors was flown in a) without nurses b) as the first, considering how much preasure there was and is on the airport.

Nice thread.
Im still in contact with my closest family. But none of my former jw-friends ever contacts me. Instead of speaking with me, they actually speak ABOUT me - and that obviously makes me sad. Guess the young JWs dont have a lot of other things to speak about.
Love, Miss Bohm

Hmmm...I have a question
by hmmmmmm inhi.. somethings seem weird.. for example - wages of sin is death - so if you sin you die, and if you die you have paid for that sin completely, so you have no more sin.
.
now what if everyone in the world was killed - by a nuclear domino effect - in theory we have saved everyone .... any ideas?.

Perry: Okay. Let me re-phrase. You wrote that being an atheist with respect to God is illogically, because one would have to know for certain no God exist. That would, in a sence, make a God out of oneself. Then i asked about the flying spaghetti monster, and you said (if i understand you right) that you dont believe there is one and that is logically sound since millions dont have a personal relationship with it.
now what i want to ask is this: So if a group of people had a personal relationship with the FSM, that would mean it was (per your previous definition) not logically sound to be 'atheistic' with respect to the FSM?

Perry: so its okay to be atheist with respect to a God which noone feels live inside of them, but not to a God where people feel it live inside of them?
