  Serious question about the Australian RC and the WTBTS.

  i have not been in a position to watch all of the interviews, so i'm sure that i missed a few things.

  here is my question.

  were either elders or ministerial servants accused of sexually abusing children, or were the accused just lowly r&f publishers or bible studies?

  The main case with all the interviews was abuse by a convicted pedo who I believe was a Ministerial Servant. But the thrust of it was how poorly it was handled by the investigating elders. Then by the appeal committee elders. And the Branch Service Desk. And Legal Desk. And finally it highlighted that they were all obeying and protecting the Governing Body.

  Other things came out such as 1006 cases of which none were reported to the police by investigating elders or the branch.

  I also believe the records showed that some accused appointed abusers who may have got off on the two witness rule and its poor application were reappointed years later. Even some judicially found guilty and reproved or DF'd I believe were reappointed when the dust had settled and years had gone by..

  michael porter, an elder in the religion, pleaded guilty to 24 counts of indecent assault and gross indecency on 13 victims aged 18 months and older.

  among the individuals were others involved in the faith.

  He did get jail time. The original "lenient" sentence of community service and rehabilitation etc was overturned and he got 18 months in the slammer. (Well 9 months I expect because if you are a good boy you get your sentenced halved)

  Are beards allowed yet for MS and Elders??

  i remember a little over 15 years ago, one of my first jobs at a grocery store, the manager was happy that they passed a new policy allowing them to grow a beard.

  previously they were not allowed.

  among the usa, i guess beards were considered not very professional still.

  Yup.

  The comments on beard are about right.

  Trouser suits/Pant suits smart trousers on women in business or general settings has been normal in the UK since the 1980's but just try wearing them to your KH and watch the petty clipboard carriers break out in a sweat.

  does anybody know how many district overseers there used to be either in the us or the uk ?

  I think it was 8 overseen by the "Britain" branch. May have been as low as 6.

  I believe Northern Ireland comes under the jw Ireland Branch (Dublin) so I'm not including that.

  i've never had a mine of my own and recently i started thinking more open minded and i know the being a jw isn't for me.

  i feel like i've been in a bubble my whole life.

  If you have a sister out and an aunt inactive that is really helpful.

  I know a young man who got reinstated and after the announcement he never attended one more meeting! But he can have some contact with his mad uber-dub mother!

  Brilliant. Channel 5 is national in the UK - not in the league of BBC1 or BBC2 or ITV but very good to "mention" to mainstream dubs. Shame its title isn't a bit more subtle!

  Just looked at the schedule and it says Inside Scientology and Escaping The Witnesses. So maybe half hour of each.

  If its our friend Sewell I think that's the one that the UK WT got sued over for about £700.000? Anyone confirm ...

  Is your job a full time job or part time?

  You might want to have a "concern" to feed to your parents. How child abuse is handled in the organisation is great because it gives you the high moral ground. Loads on here can help you tactfully use that to stave off your parents and maybe even get through to them.

  Geoffrey Jackson's Amnesia at the Royal Commission!

  at 20:00 - 21:30 in his testimony, mr. geoffrey jackson - in answer to mr. stewart's question about the governing body claiming to be god's spokespersons - claimed that it would be presumptuous of them to say that they were the only spokespersons which god was using.

  mr. jackson doesn't seem to know what he and his fellow g.b.

  members - and the providers of his lifestyle, the wtbts - actually teach as "bible truth.

  not feeling too clever at the moment...so sent off to the hospital for more tests....off the bus, round the corner......run slap bang into my first one...its witnessin'cart himself!!

  D'you know? I actually think the cracks are beginning to show! Really.

  I can tell you this - a lot of elders who are "careful what they say" are moaning to each other about all the demands for cash. I heard this weekend of an elders meeting in which one of the few "lets give 'em all our lolly types" got told by the rest that if he was so keen then send his own money while they (the rest) said to hang on to the congregations dwindling reserves for a rainy day!

  Apparently it got quite heated. (In the UK this one)
