"The Bunker" WT Conventions 2016 (Gag Me)
by Poztate inin the very near future the gang will be down in a bunker,cellar awaiting the police,military to break in and take them away to camps or executions .
(paranoid much) this is the foretold "prophecy" of the governments turning on religion and saving them for last.since the couple portrayed as simplifying their life by getting rid of a lot of material things is shown to be (about) the same age in the bunker we know it must be any minute now that it will happen.
i have been out for over 35 years and things seem to be getting more bizarre each year.. when did this doctrine really become main stream?

Like Sail Away said the older ones remembered the Nazis, we heard about Malawi (beaten to death/rapes) and we "knew" the persecution was coming down the 'pike. And demons everywhere.

Also my personal 2nd hand experience about what was taught in 1941.
In 2015 I went to a funeral of a long time jw who was baptised in 1941. Born in 1918, married in 1939 and had her first child in 1941.
The funeral speaker - who for a JW (along with the "what did she believe bit") gave a warm anecdotal talk about this well liked old lady - told a history of her life and background. All her children/grandchildren were there.
When he got to WW2 he said her husband was in the British Army and had arranged for his wife and child to be evacuated from the city she lived in as it was often being bombed by German bombers.
She studied with pioneers; was quickly convinced Armageddon was so close, she ran home to check her baby (being looked after by a neighbour) was safe.
This was told by the speaker in a humorous but kind way as if the old sister had been gullible but nevertheless faithful.
But reading the above posts it's obvious to me she just accepted what she was taught - in 1941 Britain she (and the pioneers who were repeating Rutherford and later Knorr's predictions) could have been forgiven for thinking WW2 would end in Armageddon.
(After all her town was being bombed, her husband was away fighting in the war and for once "the sky is falling" was true!)

JWs in denial, so sad
by Simon ini had a couple of jw sisters call at my door today.. they started with the bizarre "can we read you a scripture" and read about "death being no more" and asked what i thought of that.. i said it sounded like a mix of disney and dumb.. they then launched into how god was going to put an end to death and wasn't that wonderful?.
i said it would have been more wonderful if he'd not created death in the first place.. they thought man created death by disobeying so i questioned why god couldn't have just forgiven them.
apparently "because he loves us" is supposed to be a satisfactory answer to why he kills us.. i asked how loving it was to kill hundreds of thousands of children in tsunami's, disease and so on.. at this point, they gave up on the 'god is love' and switched to the bible being true no matter what because it was an old book and moses had written the first chapter (says the book).. when i suggested it really wasn't that old and that most of the bible myths were copies of older stories from before it was written they questioned if i studied the bible and theology.. then i told them i was brought up as a jw so knew it was all crap.. now it was game on, they immediately switched to play defence questioning why i'd left (and i think they'd already taken a step back away from "the evil" obviously emanating from me).. not much time to say much before they cut and run so i told them i'd left because i found out it was all based on lies and that the watchtower was corrupt and covered up things like child abuse.. oh no, you're thinking of the catholics one of them said (some disdain in how she said "catholics" as though "we're so much better than them").. "well, i challenge you to do a search for the australian royal commission and you'll see the testimony the watchtower leaders gave and the damning evidence that they covered up abuse and reported none of it to the police.".
