Psalm 119 v 165 is occasionally twisted and applied.
The riposte is Leviticus 19 v 27.
And round it goes ...
some of the videos on youtube really make the beard policy look ridiculous.
i wondered what would happen if the jw beard policy caused someone to stumble?
jesus most likely wore a beard, and charles taze russell had a beard.

hello community!
quick background - baptized 1971, 46 years in the borg, former elder.
wife - baptized 1973, pioneer...... we became disgusted with the oranization 10 years ago but still believed it was the truth.
If you can be bothered and you don't want df'ing then using Job 6 v 3 (wild talk) and James 3 v 2 (no one is so perfect as to not stumble in word) you could explain the pressures of life might have caused "someone" to misinterpret what you said.
But my guess is the Genie is out the bottle!

With apostasy they should only go judicial after a second admonition according to their elder book.
The WT ref is this:
*** w88 4/15 p. 27 par. 5 Discipline That Can Yield Peaceable Fruit ***
"The same was to occur with apostates, such as Hymenaeus: “As for a man that promotes a sect, reject him after a first and a second admonition;"
However the definition is quite narrow as in promoting a sect.
The time gap makes me think they have consulted the CO or the Branch Office who have said go back and give it a go to snatch you out of the fire cover their backs.
i was listening to the news today and heard of this organization.
it advocates for the removal of sex offenders registries or at least the reduction of its use and who has to register for it.
just one example of its work is to advocate for what the la district attorney's office is doing by working with sex offenders to get their names off the registry.
The last sentence in their manifesto makes me wonder why "the lady doth protest too much, methinks" ...
But I do think that consensual sex between "normal" (as in one of them is not vulnerable mentally) teenagers in the 15 - 19 age range who are up to only a couple of years apart - has a different flavour than grooming and abuse.
i was pretty young in 1975, all i remember was a few complaining at the hall after and those at the door that razed us over it.
does anyone remember how they went about denying it and when this started.
i do remember a scripture in psalms about people being mighty and living longer so this was used.
And as the 1970's progressed into the 1980's we all "knew" that "the generation" was getting along in years and so subconsciously 1975 mattered less.
Then in 1984 we had the elderly bethelites depicted on the front cover of the May 15th 1984 WT with the proclamation of "1914 - The Generation That Will Not Pass Away."
With comments such as the preaching work being completed in our 20th century (then changed on the CD-Rom) and this doozy from the 1971 "Know Jehovah" book. - still to be found on the 2014 CD-Rom.
*** kj chap. 12 p. 216 par. 9 “Until He Comes Who Has the Legal Right” ***
Shortly, within our twentieth century, the “battle in the day of Jehovah” will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom.
We were like the frog in the pan - warmed to boiling over 20 years. Then in 1995 it all came crashing down and now Armageddon overlaps and drifts but is of course imminent!so i've been thinking a lot about why i stayed a jw for so long even though i had always had doubts about the doctrines.
i was born into the religion, left and came back as an adult for another decade.
some of the things that come to mind (besides the threat of shunning-and this isn't to minimize that very real threat) was:.
You've posted that before Giordano - in another thread.
I'm glad you posted it again.
It's brilliant.
i wanted to take a moment to give a quick baby update.
my last post mentioned that we lost twin b at 17 weeks but twin a is doing well so far.
we are 25 weeks tomorrow and a week past the point of viability so we are starting to get really exited for this new adventure in our lives.
Fantastic!
just curious how we all think.. what prompted or influenced your choice of username for this forum?.
there are some really amazing names, and it would be great to hear the stories behind them.... mine was nothing fancy.
i just felt "stuck in a rut too" along with so many others.
Completely anonymous simple name that has no meaning whatsoever.
When I first joined/posted on here I was an elder and I thought everyone in "JWland" would be scouring every thread to find me, report me and DF me.
That was over 8 years ago ...
The only other slight link with reality is that "Freddo" is a very small two bite piece of chocolate by Cadbury's which when my kids were younger we would buy them as a little treat on the way home from school. It's also a frog of course ...
so in england they report a "white clean-shaven man" mowed down worshippers at a mosque.
why do they never make such detailed descriptions when muslims do the same?.
i hope this event isn't a bad turning point.
In the UK, a "white van man" is a stereotypical description of a somewhat careless and reckless delivery driver who exceeds the speed limit and jumps traffic lights.
White van man may take on a new meaning now?

Firstly my being naive enough that any concerns and doubts I had would be answered or respected. Then when I realised that was obviously dopey thinking on my part, the loss of family relationships if I DA'D.
I even hunkered down and "tried harder" for a couple of years and tried to bury my doubts. But I think once we got to 2010 to 2015 (so that there was no way I could fool myself that the generation that saw 1914 might still survive to Armageddon) - gasped at the desperate idiocy of "the overlapping generation" and seeing Steven Lett, dancing trolley carts and DFD daughters phone calls to parents being ignored in convention dramas - well that finished me off.
The ARC, money grabbing/closing Kingdom halls/booting bethelites, just confirms that if there is a god who cares he certainly doesn't care about Jborg and all its cult adherents.
