Shunning revered?
by new boy inin 1974 the society had changed there stance on shunning dis-fellowshipping people.
they said you could have limited association with those who were dis-fellowshipped.. what year did they change it back to the old way of shunning people?

Dietary Quirks Among JWs
by millie210 ini recently had to accompany an older family member out of state to a family reunion.
it was a big reunion and not much was overtly made of the fact that i am "misguided" and not attending meetings (lost soul that i am) which was nice.
the thing i noticed that i was most struck by was all the dietary quirks in evidence during our 3 days together.

As a broadbrush comment I find the more highly strung someone is the more likely they are to be high on the special dietary curve.

Blade Runner - the new movie
by days of future passed ini went to see blade runner 2 because i liked the first one.
even tho the first one was i think rated r, i still saw it.
the whole atmosphere of the first one was bizarre and real to itself.. if you don't want to be spoiled, don't read on.. with high hopes, despite hearing that it tanked at the box office (are the critics crazy?

Favorite Quotations from Movies
by compound complex in"the way you walked was thorny, through no fault of your own, but as the rain enters the soil, the river enters the sea, so tears run to a predestined end.
now you will have peace for eternity.

More a scene than a quotation.
At the end of Dead Poets Society after Mr. Keating (Robin Williams) is unjustly fired when the boys stand on their desks ...
Todd Anderson (Ethan Hawke) "My Captain My Captain!"

If WT are cutting back on mags will they also cut back on Bethelites?
by truthseeker ini was thinking after hearing about the agm cutbacks to the mags and other website content surely they will end up dismissing more bethelites?
i would have thought in the old days, before the web, an artist or writer at bethel would have been a full time job making content for four 32 page mags a month.
now what are these guys going to do?.

They don't need branches for printing anymore but what about control and dollar collection and retention?
By having HQ in USA and bigger branches in Canada, UK and Germany they can move money around in stable currencies and themselves around in familiar surroundings if the heat is on and use some legal representation too.
South Africa, Mexico, Brazil and Australia can have small offices in out of town nice locations for admin/control (+GB vacation) purposes. If the legal financial heat gets too much in a country then close it down and move the lolly.
Countries and/or language groups with good revenue (France, Italy, Spain, Japan) can have a couple of offices in one of the bigger branches and someone with the title Branch coordinator for that country.
A Traveling Overseer with a flat attached to a Kingdom Hall could suffice in many countries as the sole branch representative - with his wife as secretary - assisted by a local flunky or two.
Oh and somewhere in the Caribbean which is a money haven with a nice climate too!

Did you leave the JW RECENTLY? Really? Recently? WTF were you thinking?
by The Real Edward Gentry innot to be overly harsh...but if you just left, what the hell were you thinking?
between 1995 and now, you never did an internet search of "jehovahs-witness" or "watchtower"?

Hi Ruby ... I was being at least somewhat tongue in cheek, but thanks.

Two more "concerns".
1. The branch address on the letter is different from the one currently shown on the jwborg website although it matches the printed address at the back of the 2016 yearbook, (could there be two locations like Patterson and Wallkill etc?) although the phone number is correct if phoning internally.
2. The bible verses quoted are 1984 NWT not 2013 RNWT. As an English speaking country (official language) why are they not using 2013 RNWT?

1. I trust Wifi. He will know if this has come to him from someone HE can trust.
2. I wonder if this is "branch written" because unlike "the west" there is not such a high take up of digital banking in Nigeria and so the WT gives different instructions for that area for the local needs item?
3. The reference to what the Branch office in Peru (but similar demographic financially?) says seems strange.
4. Strange too, it doesn't include a "copy to" travelling overseers" at the base?
5. I believe "somewhere on this forum" there was a letter from a branch amending the local needs item for the same week, but different in content? Not sure about this.
Maybe Wifi may comment later but I will run with it for the present. I've certainly seen "best wishes" on other recent JW documents.
