The "Ice Cream Video" - is it real?
by freddo inthe "don't buy ice cream give us the money video" that is the subject of other threads.. i am not very good with computer stuff - would someone tell me where it is to be found on jworg please?
i can't find it.. thanks..

@ToesUp - Found it - thanks.
I'm glad it's real. More "shooting themselves in the foot!"
When you click on it it asks if you've been to the convention yet. If you click "no" you don't get to see anything. So you click "yes" and you do!
Will I go to hell for watching this before my assigned convention next month?

If your father expresses what he wants for his service then that is what he should get. I guess his estate is paying for it? If not and you are in charge of arranging it you don't have to choose a die hard elder to take it - at least not in the UK. (Unless you want a Kingdom hall service and lots of jw's don't over here they just have a talk in the state owned crematoriums and anyone can give that at the next of kin's instructions.) By next of kin I mean whoever has authority over the dead person's estate and who releases the funds. He who pays the piper calls the tune as the saying goes.
I've known families that were jw's choose a friend of the deceased - sometimes ex elders or reasonable speakers who have never "reached out" and who will be prepared to tear up the "wonderful" jw outline and tell everyone about the dead person's good points.
I did one once after I resigned as an elder - just put in a scripture about the dead persons hope (resurrection of the righteous) and how we could benefit from copying her good points (kind, loved family, looked after grandchildren) and gave her history in what I hoped was a light and kind way. The service was about half hour with a kingdom song chosen by her family and a prayer by her jw nephew but at least 80% of it was about her.
But I asked what the two sons wanted and they just told me loads of anecdotes and stuff which I related. Seemed ok with dubs and non-dubs and most importantly family.

Have a plan. Tell your parents you want to go to college so you can learn to support yourself financially. Make friends there but be careful. But don't do unwise things like drugs and alcohol and sleeping around - be a useful member of society.
I bet your eating disorder is largely down to your stress from being torn between two paths. The one that is expected of you and the one that you want to follow.
Do you have siblings?

What triggered your doubts / awakening?
by Tornintwo ini am sort of new here, used a different username for a while but things got 'difficult' at home so i've since been lurking.... what i would be really interested to know, if you don't mind sharing, is what it was that triggered your doubts and initial research which led to awakening, was it a bad experience, injustice, changed doctrine?
for me, it was seeing mistreatment of young ones in the congregation, they're under so much pressure and as soon as they go even slightly astray they are shunned, either informally (as bad associations which pushes them further into the 'world') or formally - with elders dying to throw the book at them so they even lose their family.... ...then reading about child abuse issues in the press.... ...which led me to silentlambs.
...then jw facts, this forum and coc, wham!

It just built up over the years.
I was a young teen in 1975 - that didn't do it. I got baptised in '76 go figure! After all "the generation" might go 70 or 80 years from 1914!
The generation change in 1995 - nope but looking back that was a biggie.
The Revelation Book - how many times did we study that pile of crap? And then paste in more crap? I never could get how Cedar Point trumpeting was foretold in scripture!
A falling out with a CO and my resignation as an elder in 2004 was a help and for ten years its grown into "staying in to keep peace with family". But I have been mentally free for at least five years. That is a good place to be - I'm comfortable knowing that if I'm lucky I'll grow old and die.
I'm just like a lazy dog led on a nail - it's uncomfortable but not as uncomfortable as it would be if I cut all ties.
I'm too cowardly to leave yet and I hate myself for it.
Don't copy me.

Dwindling Attendance? Here's a quick fix!....
by Tech49 inso here's a real life experience you will get a kick out of.. our kh has about 90 publishers.
typical meeting attendance during a co visit is right at 100 or so.
the rest of the time, attendance is a dismal 50-60, sometimes 70 on a good week!.

Ha!
We share a hall with two other congs. I looked at the attendance record on each noticeboard. Apparently the count is now taken half way through so of course half a dozen "Oh God I can't face the Watchtower study err ... "not well" ones leave half way through making the figures even worse!
Ours is 70 publishers and we get about 50 at the hall. Other cong 1 is 100 publishers with about 70 attending. Other cong 2 is 50 with about 35 attending. But there is always a number in brackets which is those listening in who get counted too.
When I was an elder I remember the CO about 20 years ago complaining because we "only" had 90% attendance. Now its about 70%!
