Instructions from the Old Elder's Book

last night i was looking over the notes on my old elders book and one of the instructors told us to write this down.

"when you want to get the friends to believe and obey anything, just keep saying it over and over and over and eventually they will believe it and follow whatever they are being told.

when i went back to school, i learned this quote in one of my world history classes..

Are the J.W's reaching a "Tipping point"?

i haven't been to a meeting in 15 years but my mother and sister are hard as j.w's.

the brothers they are appointing elders are at best suspect like one guy from my old hall made elder,big time drug used before becoming a j.w his talks are all over the place and would have struggled to make m,s years ago but with at least 60 to 70 % of young ones leaving the pool to pick from is at best reduced.. 2 other recent elders both young and zero life experience both on benefits one not well at all falls asleep all the time.. the decent,kind elders mostly older and are decent people with alot of life experience are burning out fast as there are so few of them left like 3 per congro of 100 publishers.. then you have the rich elders who wouldn't ever think of inviting some poor older or mis-fit person out to the expensive placers they go to as they couldn't afford to go so they are above the r&f and the r&f get pissed off with them.

then we have the ones who have "put the kingdom 1st" who are now old worn out and barely getting by from welfare cheque to welfare cheque that are saying "the system should have been over many years ago" it's still here and they are struggling everyday.. then there are the pioneers who have a low payed reduced hour job that seem to think anyone who has anything is totally materialistic and looks down on anyone getting a new car buying a house ect.. along with the child abuse issues,the generation change,access to information the the g.b don't want anyone to know ,not to mention the issues around blood.. is there a tipping point coming????

everyone who is able should hurry up and post comments on their website as the pro-jw forces have rallied and are trying to squash this as libel.

Talkin' bout my generation

instead of this latest video by governing body member david splane, attempting to explain the current view of what jesus meant about "this generation" in matthew 24:34, the governing body should, if they were truly wanting to put "truth" first, have simply said "this is one idea we have, but it may be wrong, and in all honesty, we aren't sure what jesus meant here.".

then, they could have gone on to give the different valid options for interpreting this passage.. instead they doubled-down on a confusing doctrine that can't really be supported by scripture.. there was no overlapping generation of 100+ years in the original 1st century fulfillment of jesus' words, so why would there be a 175-year overlapping generation in the antitypical modern fulfillment?.

while we are on the topic, why are they even still saying that matthew 24:34 has a typical and antitypical fulfillment, since they said we shouldn't interpret things now as types and antitypes unless the bible explicitly says so?.

I wonder if they have amnesia or the memory of a goldfish. They certainly don't have anyone brave enough to say "Errr ummm, it might not be a good idea to promote this."

That's the problem when all their nearby helpers err ... minions depend on them for board and lodging.

not going to school

i don't know if it is the same where you are but where i live it is a common practise of jdub`s to withdraw their kid`s from school at about year 8 even younger in some cases.

they say they are being home schooled & of cause they do cover a certain amount of school topics.

don't get me wrong i`m not saying that it is wrong to home school a youngster, especially if they are being bullied or suffering in some way, but the jdub`s don't do it for this purpose, oh no their kid`s are out on the field service during what would be school hours.

Home school + JW usually means the kids end up somewhere between "crazy zealot" with limited social and work skills and "sloppy loser" with limited social and zero work skills.

Today's Special Day Assembly Expenses and the $10,499 Deficit. Silent Majority?

today i attended a one-day assembly in my hometown.

i knew when it came time to read the afternoon expenses that it would be an incredibly high and ridiculous amount that was nowhere near the real expenses for that day.

sure enough, after lunch came the announcement.

Last year the deficit here (a UK circuit) was so high an elder told me the CO wrote to the congs citing some nonsense in the Organized to do Jehovah's will book and strong armed the cash that way.

Here it is:

"Ideally, each assembly is to pay the expenses it incurs, with surplus funds being deposited in the circuit account. ...

Blah blah

However, if there are insufficient funds in the circuit account to pay expenses for the last assembly or to meet initial expenses for the next assembly, such as a deposit to secure the use of a facility, the circuit overseer may direct that congregations be advised of the privilege to contribute.

... elders will discuss the matter and determine what contribution thir congregation would be able to make to the circuit fund ... then handle this in their congregation by means of a resolution. "

This is in a paid for assembly hall!

Sexual assault I believe by a JW member Santa Ana Calif

the news this morning, santa ana man arrested for molesting three young girls.. he used his 6 year old daughter to arrange play dates with the other girls.. they showed the kh and stated he was a member of the church.

to find any other info on the case, not sure if he was a jw.. his name jesus agullary, not sure if that's the correct spelling..

Sounds like at least a part of them is trying to convince themselves. They obviously care.

The majority will just shrug and carry on. Some will get worried as they try to continue and become mentally stressed.

A few, an increasing few, will join the dots with this, the royal commission, money grabbing and other red flags and wake up.

Edited to add: Yes this looks to be possible sarcasm - (I paraphrase - "whatever the gb teach about the generation this year" and "simple and easy to understand like Jesus teachings" do seem unlikely phrases for the genuine believing jw's.) - I hope it is as it's fairly subtle.

I don't think that is true - 1006 reported cases in Australia belies that claim if you look at the ratios - but of course JW's hold themselves up to be the one true religion and like to project a clean and pure image (bit like a whitewashed grave) before everyone; which is why even when their procedures are pointedly shown to be woefully lacking (like the Royal Commission did) all they care about is protecting their image.
