It was also ironic that of the 40 in attendance (out of a publisher count of 75) that the only "youths" (under 18 years old) there were a 4 year old boy who was fast asleep on a chair, and a 12 year old autistic boy who sat transfixed with his mouth open.

JWs kinda admit to not being Christian
by NikL induring the book study which is basically a book all about the history of "gods organization" ©.
a paragraph that hit me like a ton of the proverbial bricks was this.... 9 first, jehovah’s servants came to have the proper view of the importance of god’s name.
faithful early bible students viewed the ransom arrangement as the bible’s main teaching.

Yes I endured that nonsense yesterday, sitting on my hands so as not to raise one of them and say how come Isaiah 43 v 10 is given more weight than Revelation 17 v 6 and Acts 1 v 8.
That was after I wondered why the globe in the Stephen Lett video was spinning the wrong way.

Wow Rebel 8. What a situation.
As I understand it, nowadays HLC's basically "give permission" for parents to comply with court orders for younger children without congregation sanction.

My plans for Christmas this year
by UnshackleTheChains in1. attend a charity christmas party which my wife (active jw) helps to organise each year 😀.
2. buy a very small christmas tree with lights for the living room (which can easily be hidden away if jw friends are coming up).
3. buy some nice presents for my family.

Watch a Harry Potter movie with a couple of glasses of brandy instead of going to the meeting. (Xmas falls on Sunday and our meetings are 2pm!)

you’ll find them on amazon for ridiculous prices starting from $59.84 for a beat up used one to $294.96 and up for a new condition copy.
i’m selling mine in new condition for $50.00 plus shipping which should not be more than $5.

@DS
That seems a bit grudging. Hopefully I am reading it wrong.
Barbara Anderson has more bravery in standing up to and exposing the JW hierarchy in her little finger than I have in my whole body. She and her husband could've shut up, sucked up and stayed in relative comfort in Bethel, but she gave that up - and through no fault of her own a relationship with her son - to genuinely help people see the wicked and damaging flaws in JW'ism.
I'd hate for her to feel unappreciated.

The uptake...
by Thisismein1972 inwith recent events pointing at watchtower growth, i felt compelled to say a few words.. if the figures turn out to be true, then we should not be discouraged.
after 9/11 there was a surge in, not only the watchtower, but other demonisation of organised religion.
whenever there is a a paradigm shifting event that puts fear into others, this tends to have a life changing affect on an individual.. now let us zoom to the present.

Excellent post David Jay.
For me 1975 should have woken me up but in my defence I was only a teenager then, being brought up in it. But 1995 (first big generation change) should certainly have woken me up - although looking back that was when I think the doubts started.
I have lived through the only reported reverse of numbers (1977 and 1978 I think) and it didn't make a difference to me.
But I think that seeing another reverse in figures would help me in that I believe this would be the beginning of a decline rather than a blip before a further large increase.
A "ship of fools" as you describe them puts it well.

Memories of Grace Gough
by Mary inhi everyone;i'm not on here too much anymore, but i've been asked to write a brief biography of our dear grace gough ('mouthy' on here).
i'm writing my own memories of her but it was also suggested that i maybe contact others who knew her to see if they had a nice memory or two of her they'd like to share.
it would only have to be a paragraph or two and your name can be kept confidential if you like.

Hello everyone
by Lancashirelass ini just wanted to add my name to the many number of people who have awakened from the cult.
i have been lurking for probably 2 years now.
and i'm quite certain there are many more lurking and reading just like me.. i have to be honest and say that i most likely will not be contributing much to the discussion board.

A soft spot for Absalom? Why would David be condemned for that?
He wasn't condemned for having a "hard spot" for Bathsheba was he? Who suffered for that little episode? Her husband did and of course the baby that lingered to death for a week at the hands of Jehovah.
