Are You Paul or are you Saul?
by reniaa inthis was the same man at different times in his life yet he changed his name because he completely changed his ideals and goals too.
both were extremely zealous, both thought they were doing gods work, both thought they were working for the greater good.. acts 8:3 (new international version)3but saul began to destroy the church.
going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.. soul thought gods work was to destroy the christians but paul.... acts 20: 19i served the lord with great humility and with tears, although i was severely tested by the plots of the jews.

I agree totally with Pistoff. Thank you for that! This stuff just keeps getting better for me, opening my eyes more and more. I to love what Jesus stood for and I don't like Paul!..........wf

To Pistoff: I JUST had the same thought this morning and was talking to a friend about it. I said to her the whole account of Saul getting stopped on the road, the donkey talking, the Lord Jesus coming before him and giving him an assignment.....doesn't that sound familiar to a lot of religious leaders today say: "the Lord came to me with a vision or words to say and things to do", etc......? Before Paul there was no 'religion'. He was dragging Christians (for lack of a better word) out of private homes. Then all of a sudden he changes and with him begins this 'organized religion' based on Jesus! I know a lot of JW's who have always felt funny about Paul and I have to and I think I know why. His ego began to take over him as soon as he got popular and started 'organizing' things. If Jesus wanted some organized religion why on earth did he not take time to teach one of his original 12 apostles exactly what he wanted done? He didn't because his intent was never on an organized anything! But here comes Paul to capitolize on this man and his followers. People never really talk about the 300 years BEFORE the organized church, but everything we have today seems to start with Paul? Any thoughts on that?............wf

lonliness and the very real temptation
by ryan12 ini studied with the witnesses when i was in high school, 1984 my father didn't care at all but my mother was against it.
about a 4 month book study with the paradise book.
we met at a nearby jw's house once a week for a couple of hours.. since i was only exposed to the teachings and the very kind people for a short time i have very good memories of my experience with book study and the jw's.. i'm alone and lonely and they knock and i talk.

Billy you said it perfectly. I was just saying to a friend yesterday that I remember growing up in the org in the eary 80's and we were always doing something fun within the org. I had lots of friends we had lots of sports together, gatherings, sleep-overs etc........things have really changed! My kids didn't grow up with any of that in this org. And I was that one family that had everyone over! In fact, I remember being like 10-13 hanging out with all my JW friends and listening for hours to Michael Jackson! His death brought back those memories. But your right, 'Ryan', even if what your looking for is social activity for the most part, not even the JW's are doing much of that. In the beginning yes, after your baptized no. But welcome, you will start to make friends here and satisfy a part of that need!........wf

Welcome to the board. The 'elders' are exactly the reason I left. And not because I had a dealing with them personally but I've seen how they speak one thing and do another. No love, no compassion, hypocritical, I could go on and on. But glad you are here, the boards have been really helpful to me.......awildflower

Apostasy ????
by KAYTEE inapostasy, definition,.........to leave ones religion.. if apostasy is regarded as serious in the eyes of the borg.
and it is.. why was my wife, who, before coming a witness some 35 years ago, who was a roman catholic, was not treated then, as she would be treated now, if she (heaven forbid) were to rejoin the clan after having left for app.6years.. back then they did not put her at the back of the hall for a good year, before accepting her, even though she was in principal, apostate.. why the two standards.

I think like Amazing. True apostasy has NOTHING to do with leaving an organization of any kind. To me true apostasy would be knowing, feeling, and realizing your universal role, and then choosing to not go with that flow. That is way bigger than some petty organizational thing. But in the organization it's a big scarry word. I would venture to say that many on these boards do not feel like an 'apostate', many still have a great love for God/Jehovah/Divine/Universe, whatever you want to call it. Leaving the org is just that, leaving...........wf
