most stories are just that. stories. i remember when i was studying with the jws i was always told that if it wasnt in the magazine or came directly from a co/do, do not hold any weight to the story.

some weeks after he arrived he had an occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area.

They "can give gifts on any day of the year"... But do they?
by Albert Einstein inhow many times we had heard from jw (commenting on christmass, mothers day or bithdays) "they dont need a pecial day set to give gifts, because the can give it on any day" .... but whats your experience if you compare jw and non jw ... are they really giving?.
my sons (7) example:.
he has non jw grandparents: gets all kinds of gifts all the time, sweets, magazines, toys,.

i will say that my wife and her family are very good about giving gifts through out the year. more so my wife than anyone else. most of the congo was always good about doing little things for others and doing gifts for anniversary or baby shower or wedding or any other time of year just to do something nice.
we had a sister who used to buy the kids in the congo stuff all the time. and she would buy for kids who may be coming to the meeting with parents who are studying. after she died, no one else went to that degree with the kids

i completely forgot this story until i was rereading this post and dogs came up. i was at a door with an older sister who was famous for being an animal lover. she always bragged how no animal would ever attack her. so we are at this door and while waiting for someone to answer, this big dog comes around the corner out of the open garage. i am scared. she says not to worry and calls the dog over. she starts her thing with this dog and he is just rubbing up against her and she keeps petting him and kissing him on the top of his head. while this is going on, a lady comes to the door and i start my sales pitch. the whole time i am doing this, the lady at the door is just staring at the older sister and the dog. as we get ready to leave, the older sister says what a lovely dog this lady has and very friendly. the lady smiles and says that the dog is never friendly with anyone and she was glad to see that the dog was on his best behavior with her. she then mentions that she had him out of the house until she could give him a bath since he had rolled in his own diarrhea earlier in the morning.
i almost had a heart attack from laughing so hard.

i do not know anyone. my wife has said once in the past that she knew a brother who was df'd and shortly after left home to join the military. she said he had very little options since his job before being df'd was pioneer and he could not find a job. i could see why some do it though. you want a sense of belonging and purpose at that age (18-34) and the military is a place that gives you that along with life skills and job training for the outside world.

i had a pair of hand made leather shoes ruined by putting a tear in the leather becuase it caught a screw under the seat of the car i was in while in field service. if i knew i was riding in that car, i would have stayed home that morning.
and i had someone threaten to kill me. but the shoes bothered me more.

Name Some Stupid Watchtower Rules or Ideas
by minimus inthere's a lot.. one rule that is dumb is that a brother must wear a suit for a sunday public talk that he is giving.
any other time, the brother could wear a suit coat with a different pair of pants and not be counseled for it.. another dumb idea is that you cannot date a person unless you seriously might marry them.
if you're on a date, you were supposed to always have a chaperone and holding hands might not be allowed as well as sitting together.. what other dumb rules and ideas can you add?.

highdose - a good brother will tell another brother to look also so that they can have two witnesses as proof the sister is a jezebel influence and trying to lure them away. they will report this to the elders who will inquire as to what was seen and if so, how much. then the sister will be dragged in and run through the ringer for it. and this is the sister who is 90 years old. the young sisters they stop at the part when they get the second brother to look.

How do you release the grudge?
by brainwashed-from-birth ini have got a huge grudge against jehovah and his "organization".
i feel like it has ruined my life and any chance of a relationship with god..(if there is one.
) my immediate family has disowned me along with everyone i was comfortable with my whole life.

to some degree, we all feel the pain of what we have experienced in wt world. some greater than others. each person here has a story to tell. this is a good place to share. put your pain out there when you are ready. someone on this board will see it, and will have lived the same thing. i thought my journey was unique to the wt world. it was not, and i have received many who have and are going through what i am. it really helps. sit back, buckle your seat belt, and hold on. it will be bumpy. but as you take the ride, there are many here who are riding with you.

what sports are frownd upon by the WT
by rockmehardplace ini joined a gym recently an.d the instructor was telling me that i would be good at starting out with some boxing due to my size and speed and previous experience prior to being a jw.
i am not sure at my age if i want to start that up and i am sure that as i fade, that it would not be in my best interest to draw unneccesary attention to myself.
but it led me to thinking.. in the usa, we are told that some sports are violent and should not be viewed.

Did You Ever Secretly "Sin" & The Elders Never Knew About It?
by minimus inwe, as elders, would every so often give a little talk about keeping the congregation clean and that if anyone felt the need to talk to us, to get whatever is bothering them off their chest, we would be readily available to them.
you'd be shocked to see how many would tell us some naughty things they were feeling guilty about.. i'm sure there were plenty of smart people who simply kept quiet and didn't say a word.. here's your opportunity to tell us what you wouldn't tell them..

i felt regret for some of the things i did. most of the things i did. but i never felt it needed to be said between me and others. the stuff before i was married with my wife i prayed about and asked god for forgiveness and felt it was all that was needed. i never felt regret for the cigar incident. the drinking too much, i figured i suffered physically and that in turn was my punishment.
