Your welcome truthseeker, you are definitely not alone in your experience. Bluecanary I think your right on target the reason why real friendships cannot exist is because witnesses are so judgemental. It is like you said sometimes you weren't "spiritual enough" and other times you were "too spiritual".....damned if you and damned if you don't!

Would things have been different if you had a "normal" life in the truth?
by truthseeker inyes, the title of the thead is ironic i know, but i couldn't think of an alternative.. what do i mean by "normal" life in the truth?

Seems like women got the pretty crappy end of the deal and really if Eve was tricked and Adam knew better then what the heck???? I mean birth pangs were increased, we would be dominated and oh what did men get.......hhhhhmmmm let's see oh whah they get to dominate and work hard toiling on the land........oh what a pity......something just ain't right!!!! Oh and when I was preggo and crazy JW women would say stuff like "don't take the pain meds, etc." I would just look at them like their head had rolled off their shoulders. Seriously, would I go to the dentist and get a root canal without any pain med or numbing agent.....HELL NO.....so why the hell would I pass a human being that weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and was 21.5 inches long out of something that started the size of a dime and expands to 10 cm........EPIDURALS ROCK!!!!!

I didn't start going to meetings until I was 13 and I noticed right away that "real friendships" just simply didn't exist. The friendships I was forced to make never compared to the friendships I had with my "worldly friends".....My husband having grown up as a witness his whole life has had an experience pretty much like yours. He simply doesn't know what it is like to have friends.....very sad.

This Bible passage has always bothered me.......

a levite marries himself a concubine.
she's unfaithful and goes back home.

I agree DanielP. All you need to look is at modern day Iraq/Iran and that is pretty much how it was in bible times for how women were viewed and treated. I hate how the society tries to make it out like it was "not that bad for the women because they didn't know they were treated badly".....

Womenly subjection
by vikesgirl101 indoes anybody remember which scripture it is in the greek scriptures (i want to say it was of paul's writings) that the jw's used as a reason that women had no privileges that a man could have in the congregation?
i remember doing research on it for a return visit.
basically the jist of it is that because of eve's sin, all women are inferior.

I agree PSacramento that Paul's thinking was due to the times in which he lived. Let's face it women were viewed as dirt. The only thing a woman could do to possibly contribute to society was to pop out babies. I don't believe that is how God views women at all. I find that to just be a stupid tradition of the time and just one more way to opress women. What is ironic to me is that the society makes a big deal out of not following the "traditions of men" and yet that is what Paul's statements were. If you look in the scriptures you will see there is no direct command by God for women to be in subjection to their husbands and learn in silence. In regards to family life in the commandments it shows how parents are to honor their father and mother and also about not coveting your fellowman's wife, not committing adultry, etc. but there is not one direct command from God stating these ridiculous opressive statements. Certainly if a couple chooses to follow the patriarchial and opressive guidelines set forth in the scriptures as to how they want their marriage to be then by all means that is their decision. However, I like to remember such things as "there is no male or female" in God's eyes and "not to put your trust in nobles" and also read about the capable wife who sold in the market, owned property, etc. (Oh my what a naughtly girl)!!!!

Yeah like for instance when a witness is out in the field ministry and somebody asks about the NGO involvement, pedophelia cases, etc. A witness can elect not to give the "whole details" but those wonderful little half truths....... Sure makes sense but how ironic they like to give out FULL details of other religions and their involvement with politics and pedophelia........ It's pick and choose folks, pick and choose! Gotta love the logic or should say lack of logic......

KH Games
by cantleave ineven though my attandance at meetings is lessening, i still have to attend so as not to lose my income, friends and family.
i've started playing games to make the meetings go faster, for example, i have started annoying the hall servant by making silly requests such as asking him to turn the aircon on, then 10minutes later saying things like , "thanks for that but it looks like sister elderly is getting cold - she has just put her jumper on".
i also look for brothers and sisters who haven't got one or the books or the okm and make a real meal at getting one to them (its amazing how much noise you can make fumbling around the literature cupboard).. i am running out of ideas, can anyone else suggest something to to take the dullness out of the meetings.

Sometimes before I faded I would look at the pictures in the publications of the squeaky clean witnesses being pictured and make up dirty things they would be gesturing about or saying. Like in one picture it showed a Japanese brother talking to an American brother and me and hubby made the Japanese brother saying "So you can get me dirty Amercian girl?".........
