Just feeling a little down in the dumps tonight...
by garyneal in...though i guess the reasons why are silly.
in a sense, but it makes me wonder on what's to come in the future.. i hate it this time of the year with a wife in the cult who's been taught not to celebrate christmas.
my company is having a holiday party and she agreed to go to one but because we were also bought out and some of us are leaving and moving on, someone decided to have another one with just the employees of our company alone.. i wanted to go to that one too, but i did not want to go alone.

I celebrated my birthday today for the first time!
by doublelife ini didn't really have a party or anything, but people at work know that i'm no longer a jw and they got me a birthday cake.
my birthday is not until the 28th, but my co-workers always celebrate anyone's b-day on the 3rd wednesday of every month.
i've been giddy all day over it, though every once in a while, i'll remember how disappointed in me my parents would be.

Why does the organization respect some cultures and not others specifically American?
by meangirl inokay, i am trying to wrap my head around this and it just does not make any sense.
i could not think of one "american" tradition/culture that is "allowed" by the society.
heck even football is frowned on.

Okay, I am trying to wrap my head around this and it just does not make any sense. I could not think of one "American" tradition/culture that is "allowed" by the society. Heck even football is frowned on. So then I started thinking about traditions/cultures of other countries and how the society tiptoes around that. For example, female circumcision is a tradition in some countries and I remember there was an Awake article on that. It said something like how no loving parent would want their daughter to go through that but it never stated if that parent would be disfellowshipped....I truly have a difficult time seeing how partaking in some customs in American like Mother's Day could be worse than doing that to your daughter......Yet there is a RULE on Mother's day and a PRINCIPLE on female circumcision. Ok then we have the pinata that is a Mexican tradition and a few years back there was an article stating that the pinata is a conscious matter because it is not viewed as it once was?......There are alot of American holidays/traditions that are not viewed as they once were but still no freedom. Why the hard stance on American culture and celebration but yet so lientient in other countries....has anybody else ever noticed this?

My mom to my daughter: "BD party might be fun but it will make Jah sad"
by SweetBabyCheezits inwe've allow a little freedom for my jw mom to visit our daughter at lunch at the school since we're df'd now.
um, because we're idiots, maybe.
so my daughter tells me this evening that she was chatting with mom at lunch today and mentioned a birthday party she's attending this weekend.

Wow, what a load to put upon your daughter's shoulders. It is so sad how witnesses are so brainwashed and say things like that and they feel so justified. Sorry you have to deal with that. I second supervised visits!

Bible refers to women as "the weaker vessel" - you know why?
by sabastious inbecause it's a self fullfilling prophecy!.
if you keep women couped up and force them to have only limited contact with the outside world they are going to appear sheltered and unlearned.
therefore when these oppressed women do things that are unlearned or immature all the men go "well they are the weaker vessel.".

When I got married 15 yrs ago in a Kingdom Hall my brother walked me down the aisle just cuz I didn't want to walk by myself but he did not give me away! My father-in-law actually gave the marriage talk and I made sure to tell him to pronounce us "HUSBAND AND WIFE" AND NOT "MAN AND WIFE".....that one really pisses me off too. Yeah I don't get how grown women let their fathers give then away......so demeaning. Even if I was close to my dad I never would've allowed him to "give me away" but he is a sorry no good for nothing dead beat dad who was a self alcoholic growing up so I don't even have to worry about that! Anyways, one of my favorite lines from a song are Gwen Stefanie's "I'm just a girl" and in it she says "this world is forcing me to hold your hand" and "what I succumbed to is making me numb."..........So true. It is a shame that religion is one of the main ways women are held down and what is sad is that is how people in general want it to be including women. I remember one time during a watchtower study on marriage a sister raised her hand and said"Men think. Wome feel." Everybody was nodding their heads and I glared at her. My blood was boiling.

It's okay I ALWAYS wear a head covering when posting on this forum. I have a coffee filter on my head, I truly want to show the utmost respect. Also I asked my husband's permission before I posted on this forum and he has graciously allowed me to do so. I love the freedom he allows me in my "wifely subjection"
