if possible, it would be greatly appreciated if you would hold your comments for another thread, please.

Shelby is a woman- as am I... .... but I dont recall every reading anything said by Jesus that only a male could prophesy, or recieve gifts of the spirit... Paul on the other hand was not so, ummmn... you get my point.
Jesus welcomed all honest questions and answered them... wouldn't a true follower of Christ do the same?
I cant honestly say that I follow anyone- I follow truth... I seek truth... and if that truth leads me to Jesus one day and he is the one who answers my call for truth then... I will be compelled to follow. But sadly for now I do lack that important factor- FAITH..... but at least I am honest in this regard.
I look forward to many more deep discussions and reasons to smile.
I do have to ask though... why did you pick that name??? ( I said *pick* LOL)

Snotrag.... nice choice of name for yourself IMHO... it's interesting that you would choose such a 'deep' thread on which to make your first post.... Welcome to the board, Shelby has been here for the better part of 8 years... might I sugest getting to 'know people' before you start judging/nit-picking etc.... I have doubts about your intensions for being here....
I would also like to point out at this time, that it is NOT uncommon for your average JW to believe that their GB carries the spirit of the same prophet and are in constant 'communcation with him' in order to "take care of his earthly posessions"- so to speak....
My questions to you, Snotrag, are thus.... do you have any doubts about the sanity of the WTBTS's GB??? if NOT, then why not??? Do they (the GB) really claim to be annointed prophets???? and if not, then why do they prophesy????
I suspect we will hear nothing but silence as your answers to my questions...
You may need a tissue for that :)

I call that 'inner voice' intuition- it's my voice that I hear... as though I am speaking to myself, in a way that I will understand myself... sometimes reading, listening to music or looking at a picture will get that inner voice going and I will have personal revelations about anything and everything- But that is just me, talking to me, learning for myself, as you said, the Holy Spirit is a PERSON not a feeling/emotion/intuition...
My 'intuition' tells me, that this 'inner voice' is not what Shelby was talking about when it comes to HEARING the WORD or the Holy Spirit SPEAKING to you.... to talk to some else would imply that their are TWO distinct VOICES taking part of the CONVERSATION... one yours and the other... well I'm sure you get my point now

It is the same today
It might be worth noting that the Holy Spirit is a person, not a thing.
Stephen, it may be worth noting that , when Shelby said "it is the same today", it was the means of communicating not 'who' was communicating.....
There was no bible for Noah to read, he would have had "communication" with the holy spirit, heard the voice, then placed faith.........
It does not matter which 'version' is read BTW.... you do NOT need to read words written by man, if the WORD is TALKING to you.........
I personally have not heard the word or been spoken too- but I have not asked yet..... have you? asked?

SOM.....
The religion that you are obviously a member of fits all the criteria you have cut and pasted..... this explains your cult perfectly....
1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7. the members of such a religion or sect.
8. any system for treating human sickness that originated by a person usually claiming to have sole insight into the nature of disease, and that employs methods regarded as unorthodox or unscientific.you have a book that explains your ceremonies and rites, that also contains ideology that is sure to keep you living outside of 'conventional' society.......
All of your buildings used to host your cults ceremonies are indeed run by leaders... but I would NOT call most of these leaders 'charismatic'- most are so boring to listen too, that people have been know to fall asleep during a sermon......
Did I mention your book contains false and or misleading information and radical/extreme claims?????? first sin explains all health problems and death???????????
- I have no idea what these symbols are for.... but hey.... neither do you!
Please do us all a huge favour and start your own thread- you've ruffled enough feathers on this one

Those Whose Faith is in the Bible as the Word of God..
by AGuest inmay you have peace!.
i have been directed by the holy spirit to bring something to your attention and ask you with regard to it:.
matthew 17:1-13 gives an account of the transfiguration of my lord, when he was seen with elijah and moses... which was witnessed by peter, james, and john.

Hello again Shelby- I dont believe any of the 'scriptures' to be inspired, I take only the advice that rings true for me, and heed only the messages that are of good benifet for myself and those around me...... I do this with most of what I read, listen too, watch- whether it's a song that speaks to my heart or a movie that I have seen that has 'changed' me for the better.... I draw inspiration and knowledge from many different sources... if there is perhaps a 'spirit' that is guiding this process, then I am unaware of their presence, but open to the possibility that there does exist outside of this physical realm a spiritual one, that science may never be able to prove exists.
When I tell people that I am a deist of sorts, it is due to there being no other 'term' that best describes my beliefs... I proved to be a terrible jw convert as I was raised to see the beauty in grey, for me this is no black and white world at all. Culturally I am only 3 generations removed from my Indigenous Australian ancestors, and was raised to have a profound respect for my elders and their 'knowledge'... a culture that pre dates a legend born 2000 years ago in a land far from where I am now...
I appreciate your honesty and thank you for sharing your thoughts and knowledge... I draw inspiration from you also.
